Tell us who is in the band and what you play.
Describe your sound.
The 80’s- with all of the hairspray and none of the guitar solos. Well, some guitar solos, but at least we don’t use a drum machine.
What was the main impetus for starting this band?
Dez– We needed an outlet for the bleakness and depression that has engulfed our lives and threatens our future. We all wanted to be in a band like this for a while, writing gloomy punk and deathrock songs on our own. We hung out, stopped talking about how great 80s goth and post-punk was and started playing it.
Danny– I had a lot of great ideas but I am not a great musician, and didn’t have too much luck in finding people with a similar interest in what kind of band they wanted to pursue, so I was very excited to be around people who were on the same page about what we were going for. It had also occurred to me that if we played bars I may be able to get free drinks.
Who and what are some of your main influences?
Dez– Most songs were written when I was deeply depressed and not sleeping well. I would pick up a guitar around 3 am and turn the reverb all the way up. The guitar songwriting is influenced by early Sisters of Mercy, early Christian Death, and the Renaissance music that my girlfriend is always listening to.
Danny– Definitely The Virgin Prunes. Other acts like Crow People and Theatre of Hate of course had huge influences in terms of sound but so did groups like Psychedelic Furs and The Human League.
What have you done so far?
Dez– We have released a demo tape, recorded our side of a split 7” with Population from Chicago. We went on an East Coast tour in fall 2011 and played a handful of shows in Chicago.
Danny– We’ve gotten the privilege to play with some big names like Germ Attak, Cross Stitched Eyes and Bestial Mouths! We’ve also gotten to play the third Skull Fest out in Pittsburgh. Getting stoned with Leora from Thulsa Doom definitely feels like an accomplishment.
We’re planning on releasing 2 split 7”s and record for an LP in the spring of 2012.
If you could rid the world of one pop star or reality TV star, who would it be and why?
Danny- That’s kind of hard because I’m not saturated with reality T.V. or pop stars (other than Lady Gaga, whom I love). I guess Beyonce seems pretty terrible and useless.
Dez- Danny is the one pop star we’re going to rid the world of.
