HARD CHARGER have been rather active in the Canadian scene for the last nearly 8 years, having released a handful of LPs, 7″s and splits. This is their first release for the newish label Primeval Sounds, based in Quebec City Quebec. This band wears their influences on the sleeves of their leather jackets, and one can definitely hear a ton of old school metal in the mix.
Chrome lord is 6 trax of blazing “hold em high” thrash punk with gasoline soaked vocals, galloping drums, thrash riffs galore, and really wicked guitar solos on fully half of the songs. The string tones provide a fuzzy warmth that not enough bands use today. They even throw in a couple multi – vocal parts for the choruses of some of the songs. This band really knows how to bring back the good parts of past heavy metal while cutting out and throwing away the absolute crap.
Lyrical matter on this record is maybe even more varied than the music. The album opener, Chrome Lord, is about a heavy metal giant that’s hellbent on destruction. Doc Ellis is a song about having to work to get by in society, even though you know it’s just a pointless waste of time. Burn the Rich is rather self – explanatory, but does have a really awesome solo to boot as well as a band chorus. Only The Grave is a sado – masochistic nightmare (or wet dream?), a song which has a great old school guitar solo that Lynnard Skynnard on speed would’ve been proud of. Spitting Venom has a cool time switch on the drums throwing in to a pseudo breakdown towards the end of the song before album closer “Wolves of Bedlam” fires up. “Wolves…” is a story of a mindless zombie nation produced by too much TV and social conditioning. It’s filled with guitar noodling for half of the one minute that it plays.
None of these songs even reach the two minute mark (although Only the Grave gets really close). Nope, these six songs are just really great Canadian punk filled with sweet metal goodness. It’s nice to see solos and breakdowns in this style of punk, without layering on the cheese like some others do.
This awesome record was recorded March 2013 in Fredericton New Brunswick, and then mastered by Dan @ Mammoth Sound.

A new band from the midlands of England, INTERNAL ROT perform politically charged crust metal. This is the band’s first release, with 5 solid as a rock songs to kill yer eardrums. They play a style of crust that seems to becoming popular as of late. Make noise, not music.
The CD starts with a very “crust core” approach via guitar and drums, which provides a taste of what will be blazing through the speakers for the better part of the next 20 minutes. Dual vocals add more layers, covering death metal growls as well as the shrieking rage of grindcore. Both guys on vox share the duties rather evenly in every one of the songs, adding some real complexity to the assault of INTERNAL ROT. Drums keep a modern war crust beat covered in the stench of ages, but also reminds one of the milder side of grind (not as many blast beats). The guitar and bass keep a groove on it all, and the bass especially shows how much it leads the songs with the intro for Inspired By Bullshit, a completely anti – religious assault with double bass blast beats and, of course, the trademark dual vocals.
The lyrics for Inspired by Bullshit are taken from real world experience of watching drug addicts become religious zealots in order to clean their shit up. These new “warriors of christ” are just as dangerous on religion as they were on drugs, but now they feel justified in their actions. Yet they are still weak, because they have to resort to a book to get off the drugs, instead of finding strength within themselves. As an American, I see this bullshit every day I walk the city streets or ride the bus in Minneapolis. The political song Internal Rot is about how political corruption makes the system rot from the inside out until nothing is left but a weak façade, ready to crumble at the slightest kick.
Another stand out lyric / song is ep title song “Wel – Fair State”, a tirade about people that abuse the welfare system (such as the Dole in UK), by declaring themselves invalids or unable to work, and make a career out of government handouts, instead of trying to improve themselves so that they can be completely independent from the spider – web social system. Tom “Kerry King” McKenna of HELLSWORN provides a really kick ass old school thrash metal inspired guitar solo on this album closing song.
Recorded, mixed and mastered @ CM Studios Coventry by Neil Williams of ABYSMAL AUDIO.

4 live songs to accompany the 9 studio ones which provides the experience of what they sound like live as well as in the studio. Top notch! Live songs were recorded during the PUSSY RIOT benefit in their home town of New London Connecticut. If you’re unaware, PUSSY RIOT is an all grrl Russian band that got arrested after speaking out against vladimir putin (intentionally not capitalized to signify disrespect). They got arrested in 2011, and one or two of the members is still in there. Apparently the women have been subjected to abuse including sexual abuse, and punx all over the world are (or should be) just as mad about them being arrested as the atrocities that happened in BANDA ACEH INDONESIA a couple years ago.
AMERICANT is an East Coast punk band from Connecticut that play aggressive HC with a hint of powerviolence. Off the wall drumming matches the excellent guitar / bass work well, with enraged shouted vocals over it all. Dual m / f vox on a couple songs, with entirely anarchist messages in the lyrics. Song themes touch upon such topics as the annoyance of working, riot cops at peaceful protests, the rampant sexism of religion, a history of punk rock, the debt of the American dream, and unity. Oh, and a tongue in cheek song about smoking. I’m not really sure if they are anti cigs, but they definitely mention the ills of tobacco. DON’T SMOKE – ITS FUCKING STUPID!!!! SMOKE DRUGS NOT CIGS. Lyrics sheet is laid out like a stack of show flyers, and printed DIY on regular office paper. Production is nice and bass heavy so ya can hear all the parts of the jig saw gnawing through the amps. Great bass levels. Plus the lead singer has been repeatedly seen rocking PROFANE EXISTENCE shirts! Fuck yea
Released as WILTED ROSE RECORDS #001.
“Once in awhile, something truly inspirational comes from southeastern Connecticut. These four bright and talented young people are going to change the face of music for the better for generations to come. Sure, they may be a little rough around the edges and drop a few f-bombs now and again, but what they lack in social norms they make up for with that special kind of spark that can lead us all to a better place. The kind of place we have dreampt of since our youth where anything is possible. That special place where, at least for a few moments, we are completely free from all the things that have held us back and tired our weary bones.” — Norm McDonald of SNL (?)
I hate supporting facebook due to what all the fucktarded assholes out there can post (beatings, rapes, animal abuse, you name it) but this is the only site I could find on these people.
Filthy Charity start with a feedback induced intro that lulls one into a sense of comfort before the power violence comes pouring out of the speakers. Mile a minute drums combat with blast driven guitar work. Shouted vocals mixed with chicken screams, before the first song unexpectedly ends. The second song starts again with a relatively long calming intro, before blasting back into the aforementioned formula. From The Filth of Your Charity is a slowish song, with a big guitar sound and much better production than the rest of the songs. Infact, the production for the FILTHY CHARITY side mostly seems like they used one microphone and recorded in their basement. Crust as fuck & DIY!
The Butcher Project is much more streetpunk influenced and better produced. Drums are much more in the mix, as are the vocals. Chorus parts exhibit the whole band singing along to melodies, and the guitar has a much meatier tone. This band is a lot like a bunch of other street punk / oi bands that I’m sure you’ve heard. Dual vocals on some songs, band melodic sing alongs on chorus parts including “whoa!”, rock steady drums, and good guitar / bass tones. If you like bands like DEFIANCE, LCB, THE UNSEEN, etc, I’m sure you will like THE BUTCHER PROJECT.
5 songs from each band. Co-release on Enthropy, Abatos, and Neanderthal productions. Recorded April 2012.

ALL PUNK / METAL DIE HARDS BEWARE: ELECTRONIC MUSIC
This is a French electronic band released on both RAVACHOL and SVOBODA among other distributors seemingly recorded in 2009. All text in the booklet, including the song titles, is in French, except for the song titles Big Brother, and Microimplant. This band is a two piece, one does the synth work / programmed drums, and the other does the guitar work and vocals. Although I cant understand French, I do notice words here and there which make me aware that this band is anarchist in nature, and most likely advocate for an egalitarian society. The duo seems to work well together, calling to mind such European industrial metal bands as Die Krupps among others. no!, no Rammstein. The music is much more in that style, although some songs do have a cheesy techno sound which I hate. To be honest, I’m really not sure why EXOGENE or whomever was responsible, sent this for review to Profane Existence, because most punk / metal die hards would probably not approve. I grew up listening to industrial, punk, and metal, so I actually like this. What they do is decent, and is of a style which I thought had faded out about a decade ago. All lyrics are in French, except the chorus for Big Brother, which is pretty self explanatory. Booklet has some cool ufo pictures, and a band photo of the duo. One of them is wearing a BOLTTHROWER shirt, presumably the guitarist. This CD / band is good if you like industrial metal thats heavy on the keys. If you cant stand electric drums or keyboards, I recommend you dont bother.

HANGED, DRAWN AND QUARTERED is one of the newer albums in the PROFANE EXISTENCE store (3 vinyl copies available at time of review), received via trade from a French label RAVACHOL PRODUCTIONS / SVOBODA RECORDS. This outfit from France formed in 2011 and currently reside in Besancon, a city in eastern France about 30 or so miles from the Switzerland border. The lyrics comment on corrupt politicians, false satanists, drinking beer, puking beer out of your ass, refusal of working so you can get drunk all day, and then again more satanism. The band seem like a bunch of mean rowdy drunks that get off on being “more evil than thou”. Vocals hit the mid and deep range, and musically, this is all out crusty thrash metal with dual guitars and a very competent drummer. HDQ is their first full length effort, and they’ve already got a split 7″ out with LUST FOR DEATH, a new band, also from France. Check out the split if you like BLACK CODE, it’s in the same style but with a more recognizable crust punk based beat, and the EP is 14 + minutes long! all material can be accessed through the bandcamp page.
Buy HANGED, DRAWN AND QUARTERED directly from the Profane Existence store! quote from PE: “BLACK CODE are a dark and heavy hardcore band from France. For fans of bands like BLACK BREATH, TRAGEDY, and MASSAKARI. They feature members of HUMAN COMPOST.”

Four songs of sludge from Cincinatti rage through a half hour of bliss for metal heads with an affinity for long songs. All songs featured on this album are 7:45 or longer, with the exception of title track Colony Of Machines. The aforementioned is merely a relaxing interlude between mammoth assaults of sludge that characterize this album.. really more like a segue into the last song, or if this was put on vinyl it would act as an introduction to the B-side. MOLLUSK is comprised of two members, one of which is credited with drums / vocals, but the level of musicianship on this album shows what monumental feats a two piece can do. I cant really describe this as a vision from the guy credited with strings (guitar & bass), because the album wouldn’t flow without the drums. Truly, the drumming going on here is what keeps this monster of sound from slowly drowning in the murky waters of ambiance that the melodies provide. Gruff shouted out vocals that are rather generic in style emanate from only the compositions on the first half of this cd, the other half being purely instrumental. Lyrics are neither provided on the bandcamp page or in the cd, so its anyones guess what the duo sing about. Judging from the music, I’d say they deal with the decay of society into the quagmire of filth that flows through the sewers of our cities like black blood through someones veins. It’s not really the lyrical content that the band is going for, but more for the mood and feeling that the musical mixture of distorted melodies and surging drums provides for the listener. Highly recommended for those who like long sludge metal songs with a heavy slab of doom thrown in for good measure. Not for everyone.Recorded at Candyland Studio by Mike Montgomery during the Spring of 2013. Expect a sticker with purchase of CD. or you can download for free from bandcamp.
This new band from the southern parts of Finland plays hardcore Scandinavian Punk rock. The members are each from different southern towns in the country, but it seems like the band maybe centered in Helsinki, the capitol of Finland. The guitar has a massive sound and flies through riffs at a buzz saw speed while the drums keep the circle pit a movin. Fem vocals emanate from a scratchy throat with a “no bullshit no compromise” attitude that keeps things fun yet serious. Chorus parts sometimes have the whole band singing along, which fills out the wall of sound approach, and provides a fun atmosphere. Rare guitar solos pan from one ear to the other side while the bass keeps the melodic structure flowing, then both come racing back to keep up the punch n drunk distortion. The last song Ylivallan Orja has a poppy chorus with what sounds like 10 people singing, and just makes one wanna pogo (yeah I know, cheesy, but eat my shit anyways). This is that kind of punk: good to listen to, good to dance to, dont give a fuck who ya slam into cos its all in good fun. This well done debut was officially released the beginning of November last year (2012), and the bandcamp page includes 3 songs that aren’t on the bombastic 7″. All songs are available for free download, but as always, if ya like it and and can afford to buy it, you should!
This trio powerhouse from Atlanta Georgia just recently formed in 2012 out of the ashes of previous ATL bands, including DISABLE. Turn A Blind Eye consists of 4 well produced punk rock anthems expressing their dissatisfaction with American society. The record opens with sounds taken from a police protest rally, and segues into the song Above The Law, an anti-cop ballad for the masses. The record closes with an instrumental guitar track which acts as a eulogy for the depressive song Rope’s End. In between is the street punk style hardcore melee that is DERNIER COMBAT. Heavily distorted guitar and bass layered over a rock steady beat that throws in lotsa fills and time changes. Production is crystal clear and as heavy as lead itself. Vocals are straight forward shouted out punk rock that reminds one of late 80′s hardcore. Musical influence ranges from POISON IDEA to ANTI-CIMEX, and lyrics deal with corrupt politicians, suicide, and depression caused by the ‘fucked up state’ we live in. Recorded / produced by the bands guitarist / singer and released on their own label Baby on Board Recs. Vinyl 7″ is limited to 300 copies of hand numbered ruby red wax. Download card / password included for track by track mp3 version of this great record. Digital package includes four cover songs, including such widely known bands as CHAOS UK and POISON IDEA. Make sure to get your filthy hands on this release, cos this is a hot record from the dirty south!

SOMALI PIRATES are a humorous tongue in cheek band from sunny San Diego California. On this record, they compile the four best songs and put them all on one 45rpm 7″. This booze swillin, all night patyin bunch of rock n roll rebels know what to do, and they do it well. The music on this is catchy punk rock n roll with good melodies and a steady vocal presence. These punx just play good ol fashioned rock n roll with no pretense and no judgement – except to the posers! With songs such as Pay Me Or You Die, or Stay Strapped, SOMALI PIRATES brings the party thrash to mix with issues that make you think, like booses you most likely hate, and corrupt politicians. This EP comes with song explanations to keep it simple, stickers, and a digital download card. Released on Camel Clutch Records
