Lighthouse Farm Animal Sanctuary is based in Scio Oregon and they do their part in ALF providing a home for neglected / abused farm animals. Fully one third of bands on this comp are from Portland Oregon, and the list includes such greats as RESIST. The other bands either come from the USA, or as far away as Ukraine, making this an international release. Most bands featured are poppy street punk, but definitely not the kind yer gonna hear on the radio. BURNT CROSS from England coverthe CRASS song “banned From the Roxy”, which sounds absolutely perfect. Like a blast from 1978 and with better production than what they originally had. Other bands that do covers are the Young Turks and Raw Nerves, both of which are from Portland. Raw Nerves cover the Negative Approach song “Ready To Fight” perfectly, and Young Turks cover Bruce Springsteens song “Im On Fire” providing the necessary punk sneer, because the original really sucked! RESIST release a song which was originally recorded for their 7″ Profane Existence release back in 2009. It’s by far one of the best on this comp, straight classic style American hardcore. I recommend buying this not just for the CRASS song or the RESIST one either, but also because of the fact this benefits a grass roots organization that needs our help while they help those without a voice. Limited to 50 copies, and released by 1859 Records, and NXNW Recs.

Florida… what do you think of? I’ll tell ya what I think: disneyworld, crowded beaches, swamps, alligators, old people, staunch conservatism, heat / humidity / sun, come to think of it, nothing good. But then I live in Minnesota, nowhere near the tropical state. Ive heard from several people that Florida has got a surprisingly decent scene. And Im not talking about death metal, but hardcore punk. To be honest, I didnt really believe them. god’s retirement home being the local spot for some good punk rock? But that actually makes sense because punk is fueled by rage not comfort. So evil staunch politics geared to the old and conservative could make for some really great furious punk. I went out on a limb and bought Baker Acted from some guys at the recent Grind Your Dick (or CLIT) Off Fest in Minneapolis. when I got around to putting this 7″ on the turntable, I was pleasantly surprised. Baker Acted released their record in October of 2012, and is the first release on All We Know Records. Hailing from Miami FL, this new band brings us 6 songs of punk rock with great bass lines, dual guitars, angry as fuck vocals and stop on a dime drums. The vast majority of songs on this record are sung by a womyn with a great vocie, which my wife and I both really enjoy. A few of the songs feature dual male / fem vocals, which brings an element of anarcho- style into the mix. This style has been done before, but this feels fresh and unique, not recycled at all like some bands do. A really good record from the underground of southern Florida, and highly recommended. By the way, the band name baker acted refers to a Florida bill passed in 1971 that allows mentally ill people to be committed to a mental health facility for 72 hours, against the will of the mentally ill person. Quite a fitting name for an angry fem led punk band. Other bands from Florida on AWK Recs are Recreant (Tampa), and Landbridge (also from Tampa)

A three piece pop band with a pretty terrible name but the songs are very poppy and catchy at that in there letter they compared themselves to MASKED INTRUDER and that isn’t a correct match at all I’d say more like THE GATEWAY DISTRICT. All the songs basically have the same drum beat and female/male fronted vocals. If you like your pop punk generic and trying to sound like other bands then this is for you. I don’t like to be negative about bands because at least they’re trying so follow the links and form your own opinion. (XbezerkerX)
First thing you’ll notice is the cover art work of this album look like a knock off well it sort of is. Ramones-AcidEater is a classic cover so you can only guess what they try and make there songs sound like. DUMBS are a punk rock band from Poland and mainly perform there. Here on this full length you get 15 tracks of pure snotty RAMONECORE jams but not nearly as good as the RAMONES. But they do say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. There really isn’t much to say but sounds like a less better version of the RAMONES. If this interests you follow the link and check them out. (XbezerkerX)
This is Tokyo City thrash punk thats fun to listen to when youre drunk, and good lyrics to read when youre sober. This is classic sing along style crossover metal punk in the style of Deathside meets Motorhead, leaning more on the Motorhead side. All the Japanese lyrics are translated into English in the lyrics book, and most song choruses are sung in English. Apparently this is their second LP.
I found this quote at Soap and Spikes:
“Nagoya city, one of the cities raised up Japanese Hardcore by world-class level, has 九狼吽(CLOWN) in its core. They play aggressively, and it’s not too much to say that they represent Japanese Driving Hardcore Punk at this time. And this is their newest record. You can be killed with one blow of Mune, a son of Burning Spirits. Agitating shouts of their souls. Shot! Shot! Shot! The lumps of sound make your aggression accelerate and battling spirits fire. Pound! Pound! Pound! A direct new generation of Japanese Hardcore, goes on their own way of hard core laughing social situation! Just feel their boiling blood. Yes! Yes! Yes!” -Souichi / FORWARD”
Discourage is a new 3-piece from Columbia South Carolina that play political as all hell fuckin punk rock. this is urgent anarcho-punk that has intricate riffage and complex drumming with anguished lyrics over the top of it all. At times mid-paced and suddenly bashing into fast paced yet melodic parts and layered with dual vocals on some parts. the lyrics package is a very DIY zine full of riot footage from around the world, and calloused lyrics about the protest movements in the States. one song mentions how SOME people at the Occupy movement thought they were beating the cops by playing Leftover Crack and drinking in the park. This is a call to direct action from the United States of Apathy. very solid demo from the Amerikkkan southeast.

this 3 piece from Los Angeles bring the politics with the beer on this raging d-beat recording of 4 songs. Songs about war (obviously), religion, crooked politicians, and heroin leave you thinking about the issues long after this record has finished playing. Death Over Greed is by far the longest out of the four and has a really cool intro before blasting into the rage. Dual vox on all songs along with thick guitars and top notch drumming influenced by crusty core bands such as DooM and Wolfbrigade. released on Dirty Mick Records. All records come with digital download card and 18″ X 18″ poster.

Haunting melodies, anguished vocals, and gothic ambiance is how I would describe this blackened – crust punk band from Columbia South Carolina. The current line up has existed since 2011, but these guys bring such tight music that they could have easily been doing this for a while now. Slow / Mid – paced melodies come crashing down with raging crust punk, and then slip into theremin led breakdowns of pure black ambience. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing this band live, and the stage show is just as amazing as the music. this music is for those who love epic crust with heart wrenching emotions. Talking to the members of the band, I learned that this cassette is the teaser for their upcoming 7″ due out before the end of the year. the cassette is “A do-it-together effort through Heidrun Collider, IFB, Anti-Corporate Recordings, All We Know, & Get Better! Records.”

Both of these bands are faily new and play crusty grindcore. Debacle tosses out 3 songs with an in – your – face ferocity and are apparently from Melbourne Australia. Lyrics cover topics of religion, squat life, and Sheeple, set at a pummeling rhythm. Debacle released a split with Scotland’s Filthpact in 2012. Inebrious Bastard is formed from members of other Sydney Australia bands such as Leech Woman, Subversion, Noisam, Bastardos, and Sordid. I.B. bring forth 4 tracks from the depths of grindcore hell, and have great lyrics extolling the horrors of war, xenophobia, animal rights, and the ‘war on terror’. Inebrious Bastard have opened for bands such as Subhumans and Steve Ignorant Presents CRASS. 7″ pressing limited to 500 copies. Co-release between Crust Almighty and Beerache Records.

This collection of underground artists loosely categorized within black metal captures the filth, ambiance, and destructive elements of black metal, along with 4 traditional low-fi black metal songs. I hear similarities of Raspberry Bulbs (Chicago), and at other times Burzum (Oslo), but this musical ogre definitely feels unique with approach and style. Side A is mostly ambiance laden with noise and 2 black metal songs. Side B is the musical reverse, being mostly black metal but still experimental as hell. This could probably be used as a film soundtrack, but the combination could potentially be scarring. Nine ‘songs’ total, multiple artists have been used on this release to paint the evil atmosphere. the booklet is laid out like a zine, and the gothic / satanic media give respect to Olde European lifestyle, sacrifice, satanism (surprise surprise), and some intelligent lyrics about the decay of Detroit city. limited to 500 copies, this record comes with a bonus sticker and can be found via Thee High Priestess.
