this record is 2 songs each from a couple bands on D.I.Y. label Filthy Rat Records based in Helsinki, Finland. Better Not Born has male / female vocals over rapid hardcore, with great breakdowns. think F-Minus, or Gruk. they have been compared with Tragedy, but I dont really see it. a great up and coming band, their debut full length is due to be out next year (2014). on the B-side, Cause a Riot is a streetpunk style with poppy roots, much like The Unseen or the Virus. the diversity on this split really makes it feel like two different records.

Having been published since the early 1980s, Earth First is a magazine that advocates radical environmental action. Full of environmental justice news / updates, and lengthy articles about grassroots organizations that openly defy the ‘law’ in the name of environmentalism / habitat preservation. All groups mentioned in this magazine are making a real concerted effort to slow / halt the environmental destruction being wreaked globally by NGOs and government backed companies every year. These activists are so committed that the actual promise of arrest / criminal charges does not deter them. this is the Brigid (january / february) 2013 issue, and contains information on eco-justice updates around the world from the end of july 2012 all the way up to the new year. Mentioned inside are some current Native American / First Nations issues, whats going on in Europe, the shameful Minnesota wolf hunt / trapping season, the KXL and Pacific Trails Pipeline, and lots more! available for $6.50 from http://www.earthfirstjournal.org based in Florida. Published by Daily Planet Publishing.

Propaganda is a melodic crust punk band from the Czech Republic, on Phobia Records. the title of this 7″ translates to Thirst For Life, and title track is exactly about that. Lyrics deal with taking life by the bull horns and fighting to reclaim your life from outside influence. other songs deal with issues such as suicide, and fake people / posers, sung with scratchy vocals. musically it sounds like this band takes a lot of influence from Swedish bands Wolfbrigade and Skitsystem. four songs with lyrics in both Czech and English. this record was recorded in Davos Studios, and released on Czech crust punk label Phobia Records.

Dripfed is a female fronted five piece band from Denver Colorado, and on this 10″ there’s 4 songs that clock in at just under sixteen minutes. Amidst a full aural assault of crusty d-beat style metal, the lyrics of these songs deal with American Indian issues such as uranium mining and westward expansion / manifest destiny. the title track, UXO is about the remaining landmines in Laos and the unjustified involvement of the US military in south Asian political affairs, especially during the Veitnam war era. released in 2011 on Denver label Less Art records, this band is a gem for anyone who likes crusty metallic punk rock. if Dripfed comes to your town, go see them; you wont be disappointed!
WOW holy shit this starts off super fast with “Can’t Be Stopped” and doesn’t slow down through the whole entire record, until you have to flip it over to the B-Side of course. I had no clue who this band was until I looked them up and found out I own there first seven inch. So I was happy now that I knew off these guys since there first seven ripped I was excited for this. They do not disappoint at all. Angry and fast from beginning to end. Think fast hardcore like early IN DEFENCE not there new shit but old shit or DIOS MIO. If that wasn’t enough to convince the last track on this record is a VOID cover “Who Are You” so follow the link to their bandcamp and follow the link to go buy this. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED! Anytime I find out a band is from Mankato MN I automatically think LIBIDO BOYZ every single time but damn I’m super off on that for BEAUTIFUL CORPSE. Here we have a 3 piece female fronted punk band in the vein of MISFITS, THE CRAMPS and THE DAMNED. Very catchy and poppy music with the whole horror punk lyrics working for them. Here we have 4 tracks of what reminds me of THE HORRORPOPS with out the Psychobilly guitar riffs, plus they have a female GO-GO Dancer on the stage when they perform which is always nice to look at. Also they keyboard parts in the songs are really cool as well. Other then that I really don’t have much left to say. Go to there website and give it a listen and viewing . (XbezerkerX)
Well all the way from Vienna, Austria we have this electronic punk band. The band consists of 3 queer persons/feminists. So with all that said I was pretty excited to listen to this and not to be negative the concept of a 3 piece queer/feminist band is awesome but not in an electronic punk band that basically has keyboard/synth drums and guitar. I was more expecting EPOXIES style music with the pop punk over lay to it but with the first track over 4 minutes long with the same hook repeating a bunch over and over and over, keep it short and to the point not overplayed. Next is a creepy dark song called “MASTERbates Motel” which you know what it references which again is to long of a song for me to stay interested in it. Most of these songs are close to the 4 minute mark of repetitive lyrics and keyboards. The cover looks cool and it comes in a paper sleeve better I think then a jewel case. I do suggest you go check this out and make your own opinion. Follow the bandcamp link. (XbezerkerX)
When I say Norway what do you think of? Black metal is what I always think of but BARRENWOMB are from Norway and aren’t Black Metal at all here you have a 2 piece drums and strings band that play very fast and artsy music with there first track “Visual AIDS”, you have a really cool instrumental intro into fast vocals and guitar followed at the end by the same instrumental kind of reminds me of the beginning music in A Clockwork Orange. There second track “Deal or No Krokodil” is a fast a spastic jam only lasting a little over a minute but is equally as good as the first. REMOTE is a one man noise band from France there only track on this album is “Plaques of Rats” which is and 8 and half minute long guitar solo with drums finally hitting in a little over a third of the way through the song then at the halfway mark the vocals kick in and where has these angry and timid lyrics been the first half is my question. Very angry vocals go along with the very heavy guitar and drums. All in all the REMOTE track is very heavy and well put together. And yes you read the header right this is an 8 inch record not a 7 inch bigger is better and fits more on it. Go to their bandcamps and listen to there sides of this split you wont regret it. (XbezerkerX)
Even before I put this on my record player I was like “Damn this record is heavy” and after a little research I found out it’s 70 gram vinyl which is cool. Other then that all I found for this band was there website. With a name like BLACK CAUCUS you can imagine what comes up. So with that all behind me I put this record on and OMG this is crazy. Something I would have never thought someone would send into PROFANE for review. So what we have here is a Female fronted grunge/garage band with mostly talking into the microphone most of the time and then singing. A total of 6 tracks on this record three on each side. The titles of the songs are “Anus” “Rickets” “Gout” “Cleft” “Sunburn” and “Flaccid”. What do you expect? It’s really different experimental drums and guitar over a girl singing. So if you’re into weird and random sounding stuff this record is for you. You can follow the link to there website and listen to it. By far “Flaccid” is the best track on this, The singer tells you to eat her pussy because it has no calories . With a the slogan of fuck me, eat me, fuck it, eat it . How could this be bad (XbezerkerX)
BODY BETRAYAL starts off this split cassette with some of the fastest songs you can think of pissed of female screaming/yelling comes blaring out of my boombox with heavy drums and fast guitar. The first 3 tracks are all less then a minute long and are some grinders. The last three are longer “Call & Response” has a good guitar/drum intro into some really fast and pissed off vocals. The last track “Spilling of Secrets” is where it’s at though. Flip this bad boy over and now it’s time for DISPARATE. Another female fronted band with very very pissed off vocals more so then BODY BETRAYAL. Both bands hail from Washington on this split and if this would represent there scene, what a cool scene it would be. More of a thrash/punk sound to this band which is really cool reminds me of COKSKAR with the fast and pissed off female vocals. Another cool thing about this release is it comes with a little zine with all the lyrics. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR and go download each side of this split cassette you wont regret it. (XbezerkerX)
