AIE is from Slovakia and play pure unadulterated grindcore. there are no melodies here, just music written to be played fast and loud. Short and to the point. ALEA IACTA EST bring 5 original songs, plus a cover of “human trafficking” by INSECT WARFARE. Lyrics are political in nature featuring short sentences with big ideas. Translated into Slovak, English, and I think Czech (?), they definitely want the audience to know exactly what they are saying. First song has a noisy intro, and then nothing but brutal assault follows. recorded April 2013.
CONTROLLED EXISTENCE is from Prague, Czech Republic, and manage to fit 8 crusty power violence songs on their side. Lyrics are a mix of Czech (?) and either Italian or Spanish, not sure which. No English translations on this side, which is a shame for under – educated Amerikans such as myself. Songs all stick to the same style, mid range vocals, lots of chaotic speed amongst groove laden riffs. Songs recorded February 2013.
This split is 14 tracks of total fury in about the same number of minutes. Definitely recommended for fans of power violence / grindcore and guaranteed to please.

This CD is a compilation of everything YATTAI have released from birth all the way up to but not including Fast Music Means Love. That’s everything from the 2005 demo CD-R to 2010’s split with TREPAN DEAD. This discography disc was due out Spring 2013 along with their latest effort afore-mentioned Fast Music…
The Discography moves backward in time, from most recent to earliest material, and all of the songs are fast, brutal, and employ liberal usage of the blast beat syndrome. Although all the songs are decent within the grindcore genre, and most have a recognizable groove, I prefer the earliest recordings. The early songs aren’t necessarily longer than the majority of the recent ones, but provide a looser more thrashy death metal style, as opposed to just playing as fast as they can and trying to rip the listeners face off with their grind.
YATTAI are very good at what they do, and any grind head will love their more than competent style.

YATTAI are from Angouleme France and are veterans of their underground scene, having played more than 100 shows since the inception of their “uncompromised grindcore” monster. While playing wickedly brutal anti-melodies, YATTAI claim to be spreading positive energy and attempt to remind people that there’s more to life than just drinking and music.
stream of consciousness response: excellent production, I can hear everything, evn during the moments of hyper fast chaos. Blast beats abound in every one of the abominations called songs. Prevalent dual vocals in traditional grind style: cookie monster meets a chicken being raped.
This CD is 16 songs within about as many minutes, and is officially released as a one sided LP. This music is absolutely punishing to the ears, and while its done very well, to be honest I’m glad it isn’t much longer. The technical prowess on this is amazing, the music doesn’t sound rushed, but rather likes it’s a 33rpm record being played at 45rpm. This is grindcore true to form, and stands above others within the genre.

Both of these bands are faily new and play crusty grindcore. Debacle tosses out 3 songs with an in – your – face ferocity and are apparently from Melbourne Australia. Lyrics cover topics of religion, squat life, and Sheeple, set at a pummeling rhythm. Debacle released a split with Scotland’s Filthpact in 2012. Inebrious Bastard is formed from members of other Sydney Australia bands such as Leech Woman, Subversion, Noisam, Bastardos, and Sordid. I.B. bring forth 4 tracks from the depths of grindcore hell, and have great lyrics extolling the horrors of war, xenophobia, animal rights, and the ‘war on terror’. Inebrious Bastard have opened for bands such as Subhumans and Steve Ignorant Presents CRASS. 7″ pressing limited to 500 copies. Co-release between Crust Almighty and Beerache Records.

Fall in New York is one of my all time favorite things and soups like this one submitted by the very creative Janine are part of the reason. Enjoy.
1 medium/large butternut squash
3 small A.P.P.L.E.S (tart ones would work best)
2 cups brussel sprouts
1 tablespoon curry powder
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp ground fenugreek seeds
10 curry leaves (optional), and a few for garnish
sea salt to taste
This one is pretty easy… wash and slice the shallots, and brussel sprouts, toss in olive oil, spices and sea salt, roast at 375 in the oven until crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. While this is happening, cut, core, de-seed, de-skin, and defile the apples and squash (you may leave them in relatively big pieces, they go soft easily). Boil until easily pierced with a fork, then transfer, liquid and all, into a blender (do not do this drunk). Return to pot, add your roasted sprouts/shallots, stir and serve. You may want to add more sea salt, depending on your taste. Serve to a grindcore singer.
