PLAGUE DOGS – s/t LP
As a huge fan of both crust and MOTORHEAD, I’m intensely happy to come across a band like Philadelphia’s PLAGUE DOGS. Unlike most “motorcrust” styled bands, these soap-dodgers lie firmly on the crust side of the spectrum. Fast, furious, obviously influenced by the Scandi-crust styles of STATE OF FEAR, DISRUPT, SKITSYSTEM, etc. However, there is a definite dirty MOTORHEAD influence in the guitar sound and in many of the bass licks. It’s not over the top influence-wise, but it’s just obvious enough to call attention. In combination, the two elements bring forth a brilliant original sound.
I saw this band in a dingy bar in Philadelphia this past spring and was blown away immediately. I hoped that a record would see the light of day before the end of the year, and here we are today. The live energy of this band was captured flawlessly on the record. As can be expected from the sound, the lyrics are full of bile, piss, and total fucking hatred for life and society. This is the soundtrack for a million punks running amok in an urban center near you. This is take-no-prisoners punk fucking rock in the best sense of the term. This is the past, present, and future of crust all rolled into one. Will you join these ugly fucks as they ride into the fire across this bastard land? (Inbred)
