    “Sermon for the Bootlickers”

Despite the inculcation of helplessness within each there remains great power. Ill at ease with such makes us ill. Learn to see the hand that feeds for what it is. You’ve been fooled if you think you’ve got no power. Refuse to be reduced to a consumer you’re a human being. Define yourself by more than wealth. Define yourself as a human. You don’t need what you’re being sold. Bend your knee to no authority but your own mind. You have the power to avoid the gilded trap. Avarice is what you’re conditioned for. Break the mold discover what’s really valuable to you.

    Living a domesticated existence
Starves people of meaning in their lives
Everyone feels the void beneath the surface
    Of everyday activities and routines

    Miserable, exploited, mass populations
Feeding the industrial systems endless hunger
    Treated like machines, living beings
Enslaved and kept passive in a technological noose

    We live in these cages
Made of concrete, glass, and steel
    A functioning human made hell
    Complete with natural scenery

    Yet there is no community
Deprived of connection with real people
    Technology perpetuates alienation
    But promises to connect us

And fill the void in our lives
In constant need of escape and distraction
    From this fucking ugly world
    Technology creeping into our lives

    Pop culture, pacifying shit
    Endless distractions to curb dissent
A society of lonely domesticated beings
Attempting social interaction behind a digital screen

Clinging to the feeling of connectedness
    Personalized profiles, mass communication tools
    Monitored and funded by pigs
    Spying on people, on movements
While corporations profit off government control
    Microsoft, apple, fedbook
    Endless lists of corporations
    Infiltrating our everyday lives
    The NSA, the CSE
Databases created from what you share
    Information for incrimination
Millions of people on terrorist watch lists
Technology’s a weapon used against us

Its function is to propel their ability
To efficiently exploit us and the natural world
While doing so capitalizing off selling us
Gadgets to distract us from the lives we live and hate

Turn off that shit, enter the real world
    You are not connected
You are alone staring into a fucking a screen

Get outside, meet with real people!
Even if we use these tools
    We must never forget

Technology is a system created by and for those in power
And it will only exist with
Division of labor, exploitation, and death

    Becoming connected through technology
    Is a sick fucking joke

In 1996 AUS-ROTTEN released their first LP “The System Works For Them” on an unsuspecting punk scene. It spread like wildfire in a pre internet era within a genre that mostly depended on tape trading.  (at least is was pre internet for us penniless punks) “The System Works For Them” was the perfect mix of anger and intelligence that the scene needed at the time (and still does today). It was like a wake up call that opened the eyes and ears to many punks the world over. The messages where crystal clear and most us were hooked as soon as the beginning shouts of “Boycott” bellowed over the speakers. I don’t believe any of us ever expected their message to resonate so well within the scene, but even more surprising is how the songs are just as relevant today as on they the day they were written. Which is why PROFANE EXISTENCE has decided to repress this record. We feel that that messages that AUS-ROTTEN brought to the table are to powerful to ignore. We feel that this LP is important and therefore should be highly available and priced affordably.

“The Battlefield Is Still Red” Bloodsplatter Edition.

PROFANE EXISTENCE has worked out every last detail of this release with the members of AUS-ROTTEN whom have been involved from step one.  All tracks have been re-masted by Jay Matherson at the Jamroom studios. To be 100% honest we didn’t want to do a complete re-master of what we already considered a good recording. However when we opened the tracks on protools we noticed a few balance issues that required fixing. These fixes resulted in a tremendous upgrade to the overall quality of the tracks. We painstakingly scanned, puzzled, and photoshopped the original artwork to make sure that it was as close to authentic as it could possible be. We then went for broke by pressing in three different vinyl color combinations! Overall to say that we are pumped to release this would be an understatement, we are absolutely ecstatic to bring you this LP on PROFANE EXISTENCE!

To top this all off we worked with AUS-ROTTEN vocalist Dave Trenga on redrawing the classic “What Good Is Money, When There Is No One Left To Buy” design for a T-Shirt to concede with the albums release. This is a fresh take on an old image to create a new and original design.

    Silence-LP-Jacketpromo-withborder

Silence are a highly active post-punk/peace-punk band from Pittsburgh, PA. “The Deafening Sound of Absolutely Nothing” strives (and succeeds) to achieve the perfect balance between peace and post punk. By taking influences from The Mob, Bauhaus, Zounds, Killing Joke, Amebix, Crass, Conflict, Internal Autonomy and Joy Division SILENCE have created what can only be described a brilliant debut LP.  At one moment this record is dark, heavy, and atmospheric and then the next moment it makes you want to dance and sing along. Lyrically SILENCE are much closer to the anarcho side of the previously listed influences. Lyrics focus on a variety of topics but often have a strong focus on the way punk and activist communities deal with political struggle in our current political climate.

    image1

“The Deafening Sound of Absolutely Nothing” comes with a 16 page magazine size zine containing lyrics, personal writings and song explanations. Designed, printed and assembled by the band themselves in true D.I.Y. fashion.

Silence will be having a record release show in their hometown of Pittsburgh PA at the Rock Room Friday April 22nd  with SHADOW AGE and SKELETON HANDS. Then later this month SILENCE will embark on a full United States tour to support “The Deafening Sound of Absolutely Nothing”. Here is a list of dates.      LISTEN TO THE TRACK “WAR DRUMS” HERE.

    https://profanexistence.files.wordpress.com/2015/10/03-track-03-war-drums.wav

    Lyrics…

When all that remains is a world in flames. Is that when they’ll say the wars are finally won? That wars are finally done?

They’re beating on the drums again, they’re fueling up the planes. The congressmen fall into line and sing the old refrain. In the name of peace they’ll burn the land and drop a thousand bombs.

Meanwhile we’ll just stay at home and go back to our sitcoms. It’s the same old song, we’ve heard it before. They’re beating the drums and they’re calling for war. What it’s supposed to accomplish, no one is sure But the victims are always the hungry and the poor.

Once the drums of war begin it’s hard to make them stop. The noise silences the dissidents once the bombs begin to drop. All those who call for peace will be mocked and pushed aside. In 10 years they’ll admit we were right after many thousands more have died.

Finally after many delays from the pressing plant the WARWOUND Demo’s LP “A Huge Black Cloud” is out and copies are moving fast!

warwound-cover-Recorded in 1983, this record contains 15 songs from 3 sessions. With a few different takes you get a total of 25 blistering tracks. For those unfamiliar with WARWOUND, they are a UK band formed in 82. WARWOUND recorded 3 demos in 83 before disbanding and members went on to join THE VARUKERS and form SACRILEGE. These demos never received an official release… until now! Highly influenced by DISCHARGE, WARWOUND is one of the first bands ever to take D-Beat Punk to a raw and intense level. Recently reformed in 2015, original guitarist Damian is now joined by Ian Glasper on bass and Rat Varuker on vocals. After a few gigs in the UK word is spreading fast of the relentless onslaught of a live show these veterans put on. WARWOUND have also recently hit the studio to record for the first time in over 30 years. Needless to say WARWOUND is back with a vengeance!

4 Why Coffee Should Cost More

  • January 27, 2016
  • by backwoodsvegan
  • · Crusty Collectivist Cooking Project · Recipes Section

Before you roll your eyes and start mumbling about the fixed gear trust fund hipsters with the big beards, hard parted hair and skinny jeans that frequent the local coffee shop…hear me out. The coffee producers are getting screwed. As I type this, the Coffee C market price(the price at which commodity coffee gets traded) is only $1.17 per pound in it’s green unroasted form. Sure, that might sound like great news for people on the consuming end. Let’s face it, most of us drink coffee every day, sometimes multiple cups a day and we all like to save money where we can, but that savings greatly affects the producers. When you get coffee at the gas station, bodega or brew from a big can at home, that is most likely commodity grade coffee. When you go to a local coffee shop that charges $2-$5 a cup, those places are paying a lot more for the coffee. It’s not that they are just trying to get more of your money to stuff in their pockets, they are also making sure the coffee farmers are making more of a living wage. Think about this: it takes approximately 40 coffee beans to make one cup of coffee. Those beans are picked by hand one at a time(except on large farms in Brazil where some are mechanically picked) since the pickers have to be sure to only pick only ripe coffee cherries and those without noticeable defects. Then they have to be transported in heavy bags on foot or sometimes bicycle to a station to be sorted, processed, dried and bagged for export. Now, if the coffee companies here are only paying $1.17 a pound, how much of that do you think gets back to farmer? Not only do they have to support families, they have to buy fertilizer for the farms, upkeep equipment and whatever else comes along in life. Fair Trade price is only $1.40($1.70 if organic), but models that are more of a direct trade are available that ensure the farmers can earn much more a pound and that’s what the better coffee companies are doing. So next time you go to buy a cup of coffee, consider going to a place that supports a more sustainable business model. If you don’t want to support sweatshop clothing or factory farmed food, why wouldn’t you include coffee in those decisions? Most places will be honest with you about their practices if they aren’t shady. This is why coffee should cost more. This is just a brief summery of what goes on and was something that was on my mind while I drink a mug of Colombian coffee that was more than double the C Market price.I’ve been a coffee roaster for about 7 years now and am always learning more about the politics of coffee. If you folks are interested in reading more about coffee, I’ll keep writing about it.

Cheers!

0 DIY Cold Brew Coffee

I figured I should post this while we still have some Summer weather, since so many of us like cold coffee on a hot day, but don’t want to pay ridiculous amounts of cash to do it. You’re probably thinking that it’s as simple as brewing coffee and dropping ice cubes in it. You can do that, but you risk creating a diluted bitter drink. If you want a heavier bodied, sweet cold coffee, try this:

Take a 32oz mason jar and add very coarsely ground coffee half way between the 200-400ml lines. Add cold water almost to the top and give it a vigorous stir, then top it off. Put it aside for roughly 12 hours. At this point, scoop what you can off the top and pour the rest through a filter. The remaining liquid is a cold coffee concentrate that just saved you a bunch of cash and a trip into public.

“An International Culinary Conspiracy!” SOY NOT Oi! Volume #2

soynotoi

Over 200 Original Vegan Recipes Compiled by the All-New HIPPYCORE KREW!

Disclaimer – The title SOY NOT Oi! Was chosen 25 years ago during the rise in popularity of the right wing fascist Oi scene. The term NOT Oi! Is a direct fuck you to the Nazi boneheads infiltrating the punk and skinhead scene – both then and now! We would like to note that Oi in general is not racist, and some of it is quite good. There are many anti-fascist Oi bands that we support and love… Oi POLLOi, THE SHAME, THE OPPRESSED, HARD SKIN, COCKNEY REGECTS, BLITZ and the list goes on. So to end this little “disclaimer” lets just say fuck the fascist and up the punx!

sn1Okay so lets start with the basics…

For those that do not know the history of SOY NOT Oi! The original book was compiled by HIPPYCORE 25 years ago. SOY NOT Oi! was an international effort with contributors mailing in recipes from all over the world.

The idea was to get affordable vegan recipes into the hands of punx. It quickly became well known and was spread throughout the punk scene like wildfire. Over the years the SOY NOT Oi! cookbook became legendary, a household item no proper punk kitchen or squat was without.

Over 2 decades later the main editors Joel Olsen and Jack Kahn discussed the idea of reprinting an updated version of SOY NOT Oi! However before they could collaborate on the idea Joel passed from this world. Jack got in touch with former contributors with the idea doing SOY NOT Oi!-2 with all proceeds directly benefiting Joel’s family. Everyone was more then happy to be board with both breathing new life to SOY NOT Oi! and also paying respect’s to Joel.

SOY NOT Oi!-2 contains over 200 vegan recipes as well as… nutrition information, grocery shopping tips, essays on punk rock and veganism, tips for dumpster diving, edible wild plants, recipes for making homemade cosmetics, and even a crash coarse in home brewing! Plus a section on canning food with a step-by-step guide for preserving tomato’s written by PROFANE EXISTENCE founder Dan Siskind!

soyskate

The recipes contained in this volume are vast, and with contributors submitting recipes from all over the world you will find something different on each page. Every recipe is written with easy step-by-step instructions, although some might argue the most important step is what record to spin while you are chopping up some garlic. Well don’t fear, most contributors have been kind enough to suggest what soundtrack is best for his or her recipe. For instance Dawn Dyer suggest that you jam Adolescents and Media Children while putting together her “Green Chile, Spinach, Tofu and Mushroom Enchiladas” and Todd Meszaros highly recommends blasting PISSED- “Greatest hits” while baking his “Zucchini Muffins”.

soyhungover

Overall SOY NOT Oi! #2 is pretty damn amazing. The editors have successfully combined veganism, punk rock, humor, and love for a friend all in one book that is full of information. SOY NOT Oi #2 is a fun book to just sit down and thumb through. The recipes are enjoyable to make – and exceptional to eat! I made two recipes from the book specifically for this review. Adrienne Lowe’s “Smokey Eggplant Chilli“, and April Olson’s “Chocolate Peanut Butter No-Bake Cookies“. Both dishes are delicious but even better they are simple recipes that even the most inexperienced cook could easily complete and get some great results. Needless to say my dinner guest that night went home happy that night. Only time will tell but I feel like I can say with full confidence that SOY NOT Oi! -2 will become a staple on punk bookshelves all across the world just like the first one.

0 VEGAN POWER bars recipe – punk rock protein

  • March 19, 2014

  • · PE Web Zine · Recipes Section

I fucking love baking, but in the last 2 years or so I have been getting more into health and fitness and so I have been experimenting with making food taste awesome but also keeping it healthy as possible. It is by this process that I decided to teach myself how to make my own VEGAN POWER bars.

Store bought power bars are fucking expensive and full of processed crap that aint good for you. Mine are far cheaper and taste kinda like a brownie. The recipe is hella simple, but you need a food processor to make it work and a few ingredients you might not already have in your cupboard.

I recommend listening to DROPDEAD while making these

Combine in a food processor:

  • Nuts (I use walnuts, almonds, cashews, etc. (whatever is on sale really) at least a cup, probably closer to 2
  • Seeds (I love Hemp seeds, chia, punk-in or sunflower)
  • 1 banana
  • Soy Protein (optional) -not to be confused with protein powders or soy protein isolate*
  • Raw cacao **
  • Vanilla flavored Vegan Proteins Plus ( 2 scoops) ***
  • More nuts
  • Dates or raisins
  • 1 tsp Baking powder (if you are doing the baked version)
  • 1/2 tsp lemon juice or vinegar

* Don’t confuse it with protein powders, this only has one ingredient – Soy. I discovered soya protein because friend gave me some they dumpster dived. The reason I suggest using this shit is cause you can use it in place of flour, it reacts similar to flour and has roughly the same texture. In baking you can replace up to 1/3 of your flour with it.

** Raw cacao is unprocessed raw chocolate. It is super high in a number of nutrients including iron. The less you cook it the healthier it is for you. It’s not cheap, but it is worth it – and if you can’t afford it you can always shoplift. Also raw cacao will give you a hella energy kick which is great before a workout or if you gotta run from the cops or jocks

*** The reason I suggest Vegan Proteins Plus vanilla is cause it is less chalky and tastes better than every other protein powder I have tried by far, and is a bit cheaper. It tastes kinda like vanilla pudding mix, and will add a shitload of protein, which is mostly sourced from peas. It also will help with the consistency of the bars. But really it doesn’t matter which vegan protein powder you use, Sunwarrior, or Vega, whatever you think tastes best

At this point you need to decide if you want them baked or raw. After it’s blended, you may want to add some type of additional sweetner if it isn’t sweet enough for you. If the mixture is too wet, you can either ad a bit of flour (can be rice, quinoa, or whatever), ground oats or more soy protein until it is dry enough to stick together nicely like cookie or bread dough. Now add dark chocolate chips and stir them in with a spatula.

RAW POWER bars

If you are a fan of RAW POWER veganism than don’t put in the baking powder or lemon juice and after mixing in the chocolate chips simply lump the batter into bar shapes on a well oiled pan and stick them in the freezer to set overnight.

Baked Bars
I prefer my VEGAN POWER bars baked just slightly as it gives a more brownie like texture of soft chocolaty goodness. Make them into bars and place them on a well oiled pan, I bake them at about 350 for about 10-15m just to give them a bit more stability, then freeze them for a few hours.

These VEGAN POWER bars keep well once frozen and are loaded with nutrients. They make a great snack between meals to keep your energy up.

1 How To Make Quinoa Taste Good: Punk rock kitchen 101

I only began eating quinoa about a year ago, but since I started I have quickly learned to love it and been constantly surprised that many others don’t! “I tried liking it” or “it’s rather bland” are common replies I hear from people when I ask if they like quinoa, some are even more crass making statements like “you actually like that stuff???” Yet whenever I make quinoa for one of these folks the response I get is quite different “wow, that’s good, how you make it taste like that?”

Truth is, cooking quinoa and making it taste awesome is really fucking easy. Quinoa (pronounced keen-wah for those who are new to it) is super quick to cook, and super healthy, a super food loaded with great nutrients and a complete protein. So making it part of your diet can help make being healthier a hell of a lot less work. And don’t worry, for the poor folks out there quinoa doesn’t have to cost a lot if you follow the advice Emma Goldman once offered to a group of poor workers “Ask for work. If they don’t give you work, ask for bread. If they do not give you work or bread, then take bread.” In other words what I am suggesting is that if you can’t afford good food, don’t eat shit, just take what you need. Big corporations steal from the workers on all levels, then fuck over the consumer (also generally a worker) by overpricing, so don’t feel bad about taking what you need. The simplest way is to buy from the bulk section and mark it down as something similar looking like bulgur wheat or couscous or whatever. Look for the teller in training, or if they have those electronic self serve tellers use those.  Even if the teller notices, most will not say anything as they are not paid enough to care.

So here is how I cook it to make it taste awesome.

The most basic method is to cook it kinda like past or rice. I start by pouring some quinoa into a mesh tea strainer, then rinse it under the tap until the water runs through easy. I then throw it in the pot on medium heat and let it fry for a few seconds before adding water. I just add water like I would to pasta, and I am not the type to measure.

At this point I ad bouillon, I use about half a cube. Many of the basic soup bouillons happen to be vegan, even the ones that are chicken or beef flavored, just check the ingredients.

Next I add some black pepper, and if I have any ground garlic, I toss it in too. That is really all there is to it… Sometimes I also like to throw in some dried stinging nettles, which you can either get from a tea shop or you can just go outside and pick some and dry them. Fresh nettles work fine as well as long as you cook them for at least 8 minutes. The nettles are optional, I tend to like how the grassy flavor of the nettles compliments the grainy taste of quinoa and pepper.  Cook it until the water is out, and I tend to turn down the heat to ¼ when it begins to get close. When the water is gone, fluff it with a fork.

This is the most basic way I cook it, it only takes about 15 minutes, and this type of quinoa is perfect for putting on a wrap with other veggies, or to eat alone.

I also like to sometimes add canned beans in tomato sauce to the quinoa right when it is just about cooked. Another similar addition is to mix in frozen mixed veggies (like the mixed peas, carrots and corn bag they always seem to give you at the food bank) when the quinoa is nearly cooked.

One of my personal favorite dishes to make witch is very easy and tastes great using quinoa uses quinoa with wild rice and lentils.

I begin by pouring wild rice into a pot, add lots of water (more than you would for other rice). Heat should be on medium. I add the soup bouillon cube at this point, then take off and do something else for a while, wild rice takes a while to cook so it is good to go do laundry or check email or plan an arson (JUST KIDDING 😉 ) while it cooks. After about 20 minutes, I add quinoa, I like using red quinoa with this variation if I have it, but any kind is great. I also add lentils at this point. It will take about another 15 minutes after this, so I add some pepper, or garlic, then go off to play video games or write a letter to a prisoner, or whatever. Again I cook it until the water is gone, then it is done. Simple.

I generally like it as is, but if you want you can always add a bit of soya sauce or other stuff to your taste.

0 Misozuke – fermented tofu “cheese”

  • I’ve made this once and it was totally delicious and creamy. You’ll definitely need patience for this recipe, but it’s totally worth it! I took the recipe directly from the site http://www.rauom.com/2011/05/24/tofu-misozuke-recipe/
  • I tried half with white miso and half with brown and they were both really good! (Jake)
  • We’ll need sugar, sake, yellow miso, and firm tofu.
  • Wrap a tofu block in 2-3 layers of paper towels & set a dish on top of the tofu block and let it dry out for 1-2 hours.
  • For each half block of tofu, prepare a marinade spread of 1/2 cup of miso, 1 tablespoon each of sake and sugar. Mix well.
  • Wrap tofu in cheesecloth and smear marinade on all sides. How much of the marinade should be used is up to you and your salt preference.
  • Line a storage container with 2-3 layers of paper towels, place tofu block on top, cover and refrigerate.
  • Change paper towels every month (SEE UPDATE BELOW) – the paper towels will become really wet, yet the tofu will not be any dryer because enzymes in the miso are breaking down the soy proteins and generating water. Chemistry!

0 Vegan Icream Layer Cake

062The last few days have been unusually hot, and with constantly rising temperatures do to global warming, it is useful to know how to make a good vegan ice-cream cake to help deal with the heat. Last night I made this exceptional vegan ice-cream cake, I had been wanting to make one for a while ever since an ex of mine brought one to a potluck a few yrs back. Here is how I did it.

1) The first layer was made with vegan store bought iceream, I used butterscotch ripple, I started by melting it, then adding dark chocolate chips. II found the cheap way to get good dark chocolate chips is to find a store that has them in bulk, and surprisingly often the dark or “pure” ones in the bulk section are accidentally vegan. The trick to making them cheap is to ‘accidentally‘ mark them down as the bin number for the shitty cheap milk chocolate chips that are usually about half the price. This way even someone on a fixed income can afford decent chocolate.

2) the second layer was made by putting Oreo cookies through the food processor to create crumbs. I normally would never buy such shit, but they are excellent in decedent baking. oreos are also one of those things that are ‘accidentally vegan,’ probably cause they don’t use any real ingredients at all… 😦   Still I used them cause they are tasty and add good texture. But don’t worry, if you don’t want to give money to shitty capitalists, just steal them. That’s why God invented shoplifting.
after this, you need to put it in the freezer until the first layers become solid.

3) This is where it gets interesting, I made the next layer by using frozen bananas, mixed with frozen raspberries, and a scoop of organic cane sugar, put through a food 066processor to make a variation of easy banana icecream. I get my raspberries in bulk to save money, and the bananas are easy to dumpsterdive or you can often find them cheap at small grocery stores that have discount racks. I added a scoop of vanilla flavored Vegan protein powder, I love this stuff as it is an easy way to get good nutrition, add it to baking, or cereal, or smoothies and it adds a ton of protein. It is quite expensive, but worth while. I got lucky as a friend dumpsterdived it and gave it to me.

I followed that with another layer of oreo crumbs. And then again stick it back in the freezer

4) The next layer was the best, I again used smooshed bananas, but this time mixed it with canned pinapple! YUMMY put the two in the food proccessor and added a bit of almond milk. Again you need to refreeze it after this layer before continuing.

5) The final layer was again using vegan store bought icecream, this time I used chocolate mixed with butterscotch.

6) I decided to get decedent, so I topped it off by throwing some nuts in the food processor, I used pecans and cashews, but most anything would do. However if you are gonna share it with friends or bring it to a potluck remember that tons of people are allergic to peanuts. I covered the topping with crushed nuts then sliced up some strawberries to decorate it, and froze it one last time.

This recipe took a bit of work, but none069 of it was difficult, and it made a lot. it was sooo worth it. Like instead of buying an overpriced cow puss ice-cream cake from Dairy Queen, I made my own, DIY Dairy Queer Vegan version!

photoDawn and I recently had a craving for baba ganouj and looked through almost every cookbook on our shelf until we came across our very reliable and underrated copy of The Lowfat Jewish Vegetarian Cookbook. Though it says vegetarian, every recipe is vegan doesn’t rely on meat and cheese substitutes. Anyway, here’s our modified version of their recipe:

1 large eggplant, cut lengthwise 1/2″ thick

olive oil for brushing

sea salt

3 TBSP tahini

3 TBSP lemon juice

3 cloves garlic, crushed

1 TBSP olive oil

1/4 C chopped fresh parsley (optional)

sea salt and pepper to taste

Preheat oven to 350F

Brush eggplant slices with olive oil on both sides, sprinkle with a little salt and place flat on baking sheet. Bake for 20 minutes or until tender. Place in food processor and blend until smooth. Use as a dip, spread on sandwiches or just eat wit a spoon if no one is looking.

0 So, the pickle jar is empty…

I know I haven’t posted much lately. Sorry. The East Coast is cold and shitty and we don’t have much in the way of fresh produce right now. I don’t like to post recipes with processed foods, but I might once in a while. Not too much, though. So, many of us like pickles and, unless we drink the leftover pickle juice, it goes down the drain. It can be used in a martini of sorts(if you’re of age), but my favorite use is slaw. Shred two carrots, thinly slice a cup or so of red cabbage and thinly slice one medium onion and place all of it in a bowl. Add a tablespoon of sea salt or pink salt and cover in the leftover juice from your last jar of pickles. Place a plate over top and put a weight on top to keep everything under the juice. Let sit for a day or longer and add slaw to sandwiches or just eat on it’s own!

0 Vegan Tofurkey Melt

vegan melt

I had really been craving a melt lately and figured I’d throw one together. Not only is this sandwich easy to make but it turned out SO GOOD! This will cure your cravings and definitely leave you satisfied.

Ingredients

– Vegan Bacon

– Butter

– Bread

– Tofurkey deli slices

– Tomato

– Thousand island dressing

  1. Prepare preferred vegan bacon on skillet.
  2. As the “bacon” is cooking, prepare the sandwich. Butter outsides of bread then cut slices in half; add the Tofurkey, tomato, Thousand Island dressing, and finally the bacon once it’s done cooking.
  3. Put the sandwich in the skillet and flip once bread is golden brown. Repeat this step with the other side of the sandwich.

I used Tofurkey’s hickory smoked deli slices (brown box), Lightlife Smart Bacon and a multigrain bread for the melt in the picture. Add more veggies to the sandwich or a vegan cheese if you’d like.
