    “Sermon for the Bootlickers”

Despite the inculcation of helplessness within each there remains great power. Ill at ease with such makes us ill. Learn to see the hand that feeds for what it is. You’ve been fooled if you think you’ve got no power. Refuse to be reduced to a consumer you’re a human being. Define yourself by more than wealth. Define yourself as a human. You don’t need what you’re being sold. Bend your knee to no authority but your own mind. You have the power to avoid the gilded trap. Avarice is what you’re conditioned for. Break the mold discover what’s really valuable to you.

    Living a domesticated existence
Starves people of meaning in their lives
Everyone feels the void beneath the surface
    Of everyday activities and routines

    Miserable, exploited, mass populations
Feeding the industrial systems endless hunger
    Treated like machines, living beings
Enslaved and kept passive in a technological noose

    We live in these cages
Made of concrete, glass, and steel
    A functioning human made hell
    Complete with natural scenery

    Yet there is no community
Deprived of connection with real people
    Technology perpetuates alienation
    But promises to connect us

And fill the void in our lives
In constant need of escape and distraction
    From this fucking ugly world
    Technology creeping into our lives

    Pop culture, pacifying shit
    Endless distractions to curb dissent
A society of lonely domesticated beings
Attempting social interaction behind a digital screen

Clinging to the feeling of connectedness
    Personalized profiles, mass communication tools
    Monitored and funded by pigs
    Spying on people, on movements
While corporations profit off government control
    Microsoft, apple, fedbook
    Endless lists of corporations
    Infiltrating our everyday lives
    The NSA, the CSE
Databases created from what you share
    Information for incrimination
Millions of people on terrorist watch lists
Technology’s a weapon used against us

Its function is to propel their ability
To efficiently exploit us and the natural world
While doing so capitalizing off selling us
Gadgets to distract us from the lives we live and hate

Turn off that shit, enter the real world
    You are not connected
You are alone staring into a fucking a screen

Get outside, meet with real people!
Even if we use these tools
    We must never forget

Technology is a system created by and for those in power
And it will only exist with
Division of labor, exploitation, and death

    Becoming connected through technology
    Is a sick fucking joke

In 1996 AUS-ROTTEN released their first LP “The System Works For Them” on an unsuspecting punk scene. It spread like wildfire in a pre internet era within a genre that mostly depended on tape trading.  (at least is was pre internet for us penniless punks) “The System Works For Them” was the perfect mix of anger and intelligence that the scene needed at the time (and still does today). It was like a wake up call that opened the eyes and ears to many punks the world over. The messages where crystal clear and most us were hooked as soon as the beginning shouts of “Boycott” bellowed over the speakers. I don’t believe any of us ever expected their message to resonate so well within the scene, but even more surprising is how the songs are just as relevant today as on they the day they were written. Which is why PROFANE EXISTENCE has decided to repress this record. We feel that that messages that AUS-ROTTEN brought to the table are to powerful to ignore. We feel that this LP is important and therefore should be highly available and priced affordably.

PROFANE EXISTENCE has worked out every last detail of this release with the members of AUS-ROTTEN whom have been involved from step one.  All tracks have been re-masted by Jay Matherson at the Jamroom studios. To be 100% honest we didn’t want to do a complete re-master of what we already considered a good recording. However when we opened the tracks on protools we noticed a few balance issues that required fixing. These fixes resulted in a tremendous upgrade to the overall quality of the tracks. We painstakingly scanned, puzzled, and photoshopped the original artwork to make sure that it was as close to authentic as it could possible be. We then went for broke by pressing in three different vinyl color combinations! Overall to say that we are pumped to release this would be an understatement, we are absolutely ecstatic to bring you this LP on PROFANE EXISTENCE!

To top this all off we worked with AUS-ROTTEN vocalist Dave Trenga on redrawing the classic “What Good Is Money, When There Is No One Left To Buy” design for a T-Shirt to concede with the albums release. This is a fresh take on an old image to create a new and original design.

    Silence-LP-Jacketpromo-withborder

Silence are a highly active post-punk/peace-punk band from Pittsburgh, PA. “The Deafening Sound of Absolutely Nothing” strives (and succeeds) to achieve the perfect balance between peace and post punk. By taking influences from The Mob, Bauhaus, Zounds, Killing Joke, Amebix, Crass, Conflict, Internal Autonomy and Joy Division SILENCE have created what can only be described a brilliant debut LP.  At one moment this record is dark, heavy, and atmospheric and then the next moment it makes you want to dance and sing along. Lyrically SILENCE are much closer to the anarcho side of the previously listed influences. Lyrics focus on a variety of topics but often have a strong focus on the way punk and activist communities deal with political struggle in our current political climate.

“The Deafening Sound of Absolutely Nothing” comes with a 16 page magazine size zine containing lyrics, personal writings and song explanations. Designed, printed and assembled by the band themselves in true D.I.Y. fashion.

LISTEN TO THE TRACK “WAR DRUMS” HERE.

    https://profanexistence.files.wordpress.com/2015/10/03-track-03-war-drums.wav

    Lyrics…

When all that remains is a world in flames. Is that when they’ll say the wars are finally won? That wars are finally done?

They’re beating on the drums again, they’re fueling up the planes. The congressmen fall into line and sing the old refrain. In the name of peace they’ll burn the land and drop a thousand bombs.

Meanwhile we’ll just stay at home and go back to our sitcoms. It’s the same old song, we’ve heard it before. They’re beating the drums and they’re calling for war. What it’s supposed to accomplish, no one is sure But the victims are always the hungry and the poor.

Once the drums of war begin it’s hard to make them stop. The noise silences the dissidents once the bombs begin to drop. All those who call for peace will be mocked and pushed aside. In 10 years they’ll admit we were right after many thousands more have died.

Finally after many delays from the pressing plant the WARWOUND Demo’s LP “A Huge Black Cloud” is out and copies are moving fast!

warwound-cover-Recorded in 1983, this record contains 15 songs from 3 sessions. With a few different takes you get a total of 25 blistering tracks. For those unfamiliar with WARWOUND, they are a UK band formed in 82. WARWOUND recorded 3 demos in 83 before disbanding and members went on to join THE VARUKERS and form SACRILEGE. These demos never received an official release… until now! Highly influenced by DISCHARGE, WARWOUND is one of the first bands ever to take D-Beat Punk to a raw and intense level. Recently reformed in 2015, original guitarist Damian is now joined by Ian Glasper on bass and Rat Varuker on vocals. After a few gigs in the UK word is spreading fast of the relentless onslaught of a live show these veterans put on. WARWOUND have also recently hit the studio to record for the first time in over 30 years. Needless to say WARWOUND is back with a vengeance!

0 MISERY – From Where The Sun Never Shines LP

  • May 8, 2012
  • by stinkbot
  • · PE Web Zine · Reviews

Of course, MISERY needs no introduction, having been prophesizing the end times while blasting our ears for the last 25 years now. 25 years and only three full-lengths. For many bands, after such a huge gap between releases (it’s been 9 years since their somewhat lacklustre splits with TOXIC NARCOTIC and PATH OF DESTRUCTION; 16 years since the now-legendary “Who’s the Fool… The Fool is Silence” LP), the original spark isn’t there anymore, or the band merely splits up. Thankfully, neither of these are the case with MISERY. In fact, it is safe to say that this is the best thing the band has recorded in their entire history, and this seems to be the start of a whole new exciting chapter for the band.

Recorded in their own studio on their own time, this record has been slowly taking shape over the last five years or so. I still remember the day when I was in Minneapolis hanging out and went over to the House of Misery to drink beers and watch the band practice. Before anyone else showed up, Jon played me a couple of tracks they had just recorded a couple days prior – the two earliest tracks recorded for this album. At that point, I knew that this was destined to become a classic record… if it ever came out.

1 MASS MILICJA – 2011 Demo CD REVIEW

  • May 8, 2012

  • · PE Web Zine · Reviews

The Polish anarchopunk scene has done it again. In this silk-screened cardboard sleeve lies a DIY CD from a band that is destined for great things. It’s refreshing to see bands write straight-up in your face political songs in lieu of semi-poetic songs which are open to interpretation. While the lyrics here are all in Polish, you can easily go to the band’s website for English interpretations if you’d like (although the last song on the disc is called “No Pasaran!” so you should know where they’re coming from without the translated lyrics). The first song, “Pociski Zamiast Skow” translates as “Bullets Not Words”, and seems to talk about violent state repression. Other songs discuss antifascism, sexism, and anarchism in general.
Musically, this is mid-tempo, semi-melodic anarchopunk that at times reminds me of OPERATION (with mostly male vocals), a bit of SIN DIOS (in the song structure), among other excellent anarchist bands blended together. This is a great demo, and I can’t wait to see what they have in store for the future. (Inbred)

0 PANIKOS Awakening From Lethargy LP REVIEW

  • May 6, 2012
  • by stinkbot
  • · PE Web Zine · Reviews

Their first release in over 10 years, this is a crushing return by Greek crust innovators PANIKOS. I was actually quite floored by how unique this album sounds; it’s a perfect joining of 90’s UK/European style crust with an overdriven industrial backdrop. Layers of atmospheric synth backup some absolutely solid metal punk riffs that bring to mind as much KILLING JOKE as it does mid-career AMEBIX. Lyric insert in both native Greek and English, there is definitely a little lost in the English translation, although I couldn’t help but try to sing along to the chorus to the track “Nyxta Taraxwn” (‘Riotnight’). If you are into the recent offerings by Prank-backed Polish industrial crusites PESD (also highly recommended), I suggest you check out this fantastic comeback record from a somewhat overlooked gem of the 90’s. PANIKOS manages to keep their sound fresh and relevant, and it is refreshing to hear a release with this much style and attitude. (Rob Hanna)

Another smoking release from Nakkeskudd Plater, this is a collection of up and coming Norwegian crust and hardcore bands. The highlight on this comp is the blazing track by SUMMON THE CROWS, who play dark and furious crust, much faster than most of their stenchier counterparts. Also noteable are ALLTID JAGET, who deliver two solid tracks of heavy d-beat thrash with some fun guitar melodies. MACHETE and THE MANSTERS both bust out some 80’s US-inspired hardcore punk, while ABSINT plays darker modern anarchopunk with melodic breakdowns and gruff female vocals. As with all compilations, variations in the record quality and styles make it hard to get an overall feeling from this collection. What is apparent is that Oslo has some really great bands right now and is a place I think I should visit soon. Really nicely packaged booklet on this one and some very in depth liner notes all in Norwegian. A nice document of an energetic scene. (Rob Hanna)

0 UNCURBED/WARVICTIMS – split 12” REVIEW

  • May 1, 2012
  • by stinkbot
  • · PE Web Zine · Reviews

This is the new split by two titans of Swedish d-beat hardcore punk. Neither band really needs an introduction; UNCURBED have been doing their thing for almost 20 years and while WARVICTIMS are new in comparison, they still have a shit ton of releases under their belt. Each of the bands – though being d-beat – are set apart from each other. UNCURBED are bit more raw and dissonant while WARVICTIMS take the straightforward d-beat approach.
UNCURBED’S side of the split is fast-paced unrelenting d-beat punk with elements of modern crustcore, they have a huge sound and a more raw recording that I really like. It seems like a lot of bands records have been too polished lately. UNCURBED don’t fail in the lyric department either, the tracks are mostly about homelessness, desperation, insanity, hopelessness – fairly dark topics. I really liked their stuff as well as the ASOCIAL cover for their side of the split.
WARVICTIM’S side is a bit more “traditional” d-beat( a la DISCHARGE) with lyrics more about war, bombs, etc. with a few tracks sang in Swedish. I think they do the job pretty well. Track after track is a pummeling d-beat assault on your ears, with gang vocals and flying Burning Spirit’s-esque guitar riffs. Fairly kick-ass stuff.
I would snap up one of these babies pretty quick just in case this is UNCURBED’S last release(there are rumors that they may have called it a day). I’ve got the American version of the split on Sacred Plague that’s limited to 106 on clear blue vinyl and 447 on black. This record was released in Sweden on D-takt & Råpunk records on vinyl and by Black Seeds in Ireland on CD. By the way, I liked the cover art’s play on the GERMS (GI) LP cover. Solid release, check it.(JasonS)

2 VIRUS Virulence CD REVIEW

THIS. IS. PUNK. ROCK! From all aspects, this is the real deal with killer music and some unique
vocal styles. When I say this, I mean it a more generalized way, but to some degree, it reminds of a
more aggressive SUBHUMANS. In regards to the unique and stand out sound. Excellent production
here with intense lyrics that are straight to the point. The first track, At What Cost? brings one of the
most important issues that’s driven the punk counter culture and it’s resistance….nuclear threat. This
song opens up this album and moves onto other important issues, such as being a drone soldier, to the
stagnant life of a “corporate whore”. Each song is unique in musical writing and the fluidity of the
vocals really makes this stand out. I’ve seen this band around, but this is my first listen (actually 3 rd
time of this CD). There’s a certain integrity about this band, and I respect their straight forward stance
and genuine ethos. It feels real, and not just something that was put out for some superficial reason.
This definitely is not back ground music and it’s not over the top distorted chaos with no substance.
This has good clarity and some really good hooks as well! Put on the anarchy seat belt…you’re goin’ for
a ride! (Leffer)

This unrelenting 5-piece hailing from Göteburg plays a dark, progressive style of metallic hardcore. Drawing from their related projects (END OF ALL, MASSMORD, FUTURE RUINS, and FREIDAG DEN 13:E among others), this is less on the d-beat crust side of the aforementioned groups and more focused on driving mid-tempo rhythms and epic buildups on these two tracks. The production quality is huge, there is this dissonant guitar frequency that lurks in the choruses of the B-side “No Remorse” that really caught me off guard — one of those moments where you keep playing the track over and over to figure out what the hell is going on in that studio. These songs sound enormous, and a 7” seems too short to showcase their work, although the packaging is quite nice with a French door style jacket with some nice photography on the front. Another great release from Nakkeskudd Plater Records in Norway, who are well renowned for finding immensely heavy and interesting bands. I’m very interested to see what a completed thought will look like; according to cryptic hints on their website it appears as if a full-length will follow soon. (Rob Hanna)

1 DESOLATEVOID Northern Aggression 7” REVIEW

Suffering from a pretty rough production, this single by Eau Claire, WI’s DESOLATEVOID is a bit of a tough egg to crack. The dual vocals are so weighed down with effects and filters it sounds like the singer is screaming into an aluminum hallway while gargling whiskey and shards of broken glass. Overall musically DESOLATEVOID plays thrashy crossover with a 90’s crust take, occasionally even showing some early Earache influences. Why the band chose to pose in front of a commemorative GG Allin plaque in their band photo, I’m not exactly sure, as the nicely illustrated cover art suggests the contents to be a little more morose. While the track “The Problemsolver” showcases a more fun, almost DISFEAR-esque side to the band, the three tracks are so disconnected it’s difficult to discern where they are heading.

1 LA LIGNE MAGINOT s/t 2xLP REVIEW

The first thing you inescapably notice about this record is the beautiful artwork (by an unidentified Viennese painter). Gorgeous gatefold packaging with really nice vinyl and black inner sleeves, this is the debut full-length release by Vienna-based LA LIGNE MAGINOT. This is an immensely complex album, lyrically and musically. Peeling this back like an onion reveals a mixture of down-tuned hardcore punk with seriously dark metallic overtones and atmospheric textures piercing through waves of thick reverb. It’s reminiscent of some of the early 90’s metallic screamo stuff coming out of Germany, but has a very unique signature to it and stands certainly on its own. It invokes GODSPEED YOU! BLACK EMPEROR-style crescendos and buildups then unleashes raspy experimental hardcore within seconds. Lyrical overtones paint a bleak existential foray into the decay of society, poetic without sounding contrived, and are well translated from the native Austrian-inflected German. I was blown away by this, and can’t wait to hear more from this mysterious band! (Rob Hanna)
