Making Punk A Threat Again!

  • The long awaited debut LP from NYC’s FLOWER “Hardly A Dream” is finally set to arrive.

FLOWER’s tedious approach to writing/creating/drawing their debut LP was carefully thought out and the result is a monumental anarcho punk /crust record.

“Hardly A Dream” Takes us on a bleak journey through the dark side of society. As soon as you drop the needle a dark atmosphere is immediately created with a slow intro featuring arpeggio guitar work that builds into pummeling d-beat crust. The albums vocals then leave you with a feeling of being crushed by the ever-present weight of living through our modern world of late stage capitalism that was built on the falsehoods of the so called American dream, religious hypocrisy’s, nationalism, and the greed of humankind.

FLOWER take many cues from predecessors and are most often (and rightfully so) compared to NAUSEA but they also take a heavy influence from ANTISECT, SACRILEGE & other greats. The artwork has a very RUDIMENTARY PENI feel and the record comes with an amazing 24.5 X 34.75 CRASS style poster jacket. All art work was meticulously hand drawn and overseen by the guitarist Willow in true DIY style and spirit. Willow was also cool enough to draw up a special shirt for the record release featuring an alternative PROFANE EXISTENCE backprint!

  • Finally, the third LP from AGNOSY has arrived!

    AGNOSY-cover

Dark, heavy, galloping crust from the streets of London. AGNOSY is back to present us with a ferocious beast of an album that can only be forged by the anger and frustration of living in today’s world. “When Daylight Reveals The Torture” aggressively attacks evils such the current rise of fascism and animal abuse. It intelligently and passionately touches on the Afrin invasion and the revolution in Rojava and shows nothing but utter disgust toward the arrogance of humankind’s lust for greed and power that will inevitably lead us down paths of war and environmental devastation.

AGNOSY – Live at SCUMFEST in London. 2011

While lyrically AGNOSY are much more politicly straight forward this time around than on previous releases, musically they have expanded on their sound to create a dark and moody atmosphere while at the same time staying crust as fuck. To say they know what they are doing would be an understatement from this band of vets whose members have played in HIATUS, HEALTH HAZARD, and BEGINNING OF THE END.

Long galloping intros are followed up by traditional d-beat, fierce solo’s are then meet with vicious vocals and pulverizing bass in a brilliant recording captured by Lewis Johns at The Ranch Production House and was mastered by Brad Boatright at Portland’s legendary Audiosiege. We then pressed on deluxe heavyweight 150-gram vinyl,  printed on reverse board jackets, and included an 11in x 22in gatefold insert to bring you a high quality and truly epic record.

Review by Craig Hayes from “Your Last Rites”…
    Swordwielder – System Overlord
Heavyweight punk fanatics take note: System Overlord is a fucking triumph. The long-awaited sophomore album from Gothenburg stenchcore band Swordwielder is a brooding behemoth, constructed from the filthiest and heftiest strains of punk and metal. System Overlord shimmers with apocalyptic visions, and it’s overflowing with all the grim atmospherics and intimidating intensity that defines consummate crushing crust.

Too much hype? No way… And no apologies, either. Swordwielder deal in definitive stenchcore on System Overlord, and much like their full-length debut, 2013’s Grim Visions of Battle, the band’s latest release is a knockout. Swordwielder’s harsh, gruff and dark sound owes a significant debt to old school icons like Amebix, Axegrinder, Deviated Instinct, and Antisect, and they mix and mangle their influences and leave ’em to rot on the battlefield.

Plenty of hammering rage drives System Overlord tracks like “Violent Revolution,” “Savage Execution” and “Cyborgs,” and thundering epics like “Corrupt Future” and “Northern Lights” exhibit subtler strengths, mixing guttural growls and clean vocals with crashing percussion and dirge-laden riffs. Connoisseurs of corpse-dragging crust will love the brute-force belligerence of “Absolute Fear,” “Nuclear Winter,” and “Second Attack,” which rain down like merciless mortar barrages. As a rule, all of System Overlord‘s mammoth tracks chug and churn with grinding muscle, while reeking of squalor and decay.

Swordwielder exudes tightly coiled aggression from start to finish here—songs rise from the ashes of desolation, and resounding calls for action and resistance ring loud. If you’re a fan of heavy-hitters like Fatum, War//Plague, Carnage, Zygome, Cancer Spreading or (insert your favorite hefty crust crew here), System Overlord‘s trampling tempo and strapping sound are bound to appeal.

Well I’m going to review a record that I can’t understand any of the song titles or even what the name of this record is, so here I go….  So I see the name of the band and think of Freddy Krueger and then I put this record on my turntable and am blown away with this very fast and raw vocals of growling coming from my speakers then I hear a woman singing and am totally into this 2 fronted band with one male and one female.  Reminds me of early KRANG before the girl left the band and has a similar heavy style to them with amazing guitar riffs and brutal/loud drumming.  This record has a total of six songs, three on each side with names like “Strach Otvoritoci” which in English is “Afraid to open your eyes” and “Pracuj A Zdochni” which is “Work and Die” in English and they translate the lyrics in the 7 inch so you know what it means in English which this is very short lyrics to a heavy song and you have a little gem here.  They sent a bandcamp link with this record so follow the link and download this record for FREE!!!  Also I’m suppose to put label info for this record so here it goes. Wolfdrunk Records, Anarchist Black Cross Records, Nuclear Madness, Aback Distribuce Records, Good Night White Pride, GRF Records, Veva Records, Hluboka Orba Records, Cestou Na Hrbitov Records, and Uchylny Kos. How do I start off describing this to you well this is something that could be on SORRY STATE Records.  Totally fast, totally in your face punk rock.  As I sit here and listen to it I’m remembering the time I seen CULO in a basement and it brings back so many good memories. So CHAOTIC NEUTRAL hail from Indianapolis and when I think of Indy to be honest nothing comes to mind, until now. So this 7 inch has a total of 5 songs that go by so fast you’ll have to listen to it again. (which I did) The album artwork is a sweet drawing of messed up head on it with worms coming from the mouth which is pretty sweet.  When I looked this up on line I seen a bunch with white covers and was wondering why mine has a red cover, so I dug a little further and came to find out that there is a total of 150 copies the first press has white covers and the second press are red covers.  No matter what this is a must have for anyone who likes CULO, DOUBLE NEGATIVE, DIRECT CONTROL.  Here are the sites to check these guys out Facebook,Bandcamp, and there Blogspot.  Label this was put out on was LAWFUL EVIL RECORDS. I couldn’t find a link for them.  P.S. go download this for FREE!!! (XbezerkerX)

0 Hellkrusher / Deadly Reign 7″ EP

Hellkrusher / Deadly Reign

UK’s legendary Hellkrusher are back with a split EP along with Texas’s Deadly Reign. Hellkrusher like Doom and Antisect are a band who have come back, but haven’t lost any of their energy or anger. They still deliver real heavy Discharge tinged crust, all well produced and recorded by Bri Doom at Studio 1in12 in Bradford. It’s hard to believe their last release was in 1999 (‘Victims Of Hate’ on Skuld), I’m sure D-beat collectors must have their split with Disclose high on their want lists. As far as I know they have another split in the works with Bulletridden too. And if it’s anything like this it will be more serious grim discourse played as heavy as possible. Great to see them back.

Deadly Reign are comparably new with old heads from World Burns to Death, Scarred For Life, Kegcharge, Century Of War and many other bands. And play that style of punk which if you like me, spent the nineties buying records by bands like Hellkrusher, Dischange, Wolfpack and Disfear, you will love Deadly Reign. These guys also have a real well produced sound with a hail of heavy drumbeats and filthy riffs. And sing of the horrors of war and religion, that remain ever constant in this world. Released by ‘Rescued From Life’ records who in the past have released stuff by Syphilitic Vaginas, Bloody Phoenix and War Master. [Rescued From Life]

0 Common Enemy “See You In Hell/’Merika 2012/2012 Tour”

I flew to Chicago the day after x-mas with relatively no problems, and met up a short while after landing with a friend from a band called Still Alive and his brother. It was snowing and extremely windy because there apartment was right by the lake, so I resigned myself to just stay in and hang out with them watching tv and getting some pizza a little later. The next day I caught a ride with them to Hammond, IN for a house show at the Void House with Common Enemy. We then went to there Dan and his brother Anthony’s parents house a short drive away for the night since we Still Alive and Common Enemy were playing the Suicide Machines/Mustard Plug Holiday Show in Detroit with a bunch of our other friends.

I almost met up with Mustard Plug in Chicago, but I figured since the Common Enemy tour would be with them the next two nights, and I hadn’t spent to much time in Indy I’d go with Still Alive and see my Mustard Plug friends the next two nights. A really good show at the Void House. I only made 5 bucks in tips but people bought us all pizza and shared there beers so it was still a good night. Got to see my friend Andrea as well who came out and then stayed and came out to breakfast with all of us.

We’re in Detroit right now among a lot of friends and a ton of bands. Common Enemy is about to go on and then Mustard Plug asked if I could come over and help during there set, so I’ll keep it short and post the remaining dates. If your going to be at ANY of the following shows and want to help out with food or anything like that let me know! While I support those to go veg or vegan, all of us eat meat so it tends to be easier to feed us because of less dietary restrictions.

Anywho, the rest of the tour is as follows:

12/29 @ Jason’s Ramp Barn (Bay City, MI)

12/30 @ Plugstock 2012 Grand Rapids MI, THE INTERSECTION

12/31 @ Bridgeton, MO

1/1 @ 1919 Hemphill (Fort Worth, TX)

1/2 @ 29th Street Ballroom (Austin, TX)

1/3 @ The Ten Eleven (San Antonio, TX) (Early Show)

1/3 @ Zeros (Corpus Christi, TX) (Late Show)

1/4@ Ballistics Skate House (Houston, TX)

1/5 @ Tsunami (Monroe, LA)

1/6 @ The End Theatre (Florence, AL)

0 It’s The End Of The World…Again

  • December 21, 2012
  • by pornodave666
  • · Columns

I’m semi new to this, at least blogging through profane, so try to bear that in mind. Last time I recall any blogging was myspace, and that’s been a few year now… so let’s give this a shot…

So it’s 12/21/12, and I currently live in a popular part of Brooklyn, and work at a fairly popular store in Queens. I never bought into the Mayan calendar/end of the world thing that is currently in the news and has been for about two years or more now, and I think the only one I might have known that would have gave it any heed would have been Bill from Opposition Rising (I think he has a song touching on the subject, doesn’t mean he was a firm believer) or possibly the old crew from The Tower in Cleveland (which became Tower 2012 and as of this is dead a few weeks now), who were fanatical about it (allegedly) and moved to Athens and lived off the grid preparing for 12/21/12. Looking at the clock it’s 10:41, so I’m gonna call it that the world won’t be ending today. Unless the West Coast fucks it up, which could happen.

So alas, I can’t spend my blog on PE going on about today being the end times, and while I seem to be known by a decent amount of cities/states around the U$A, it only seems appropriate to give a proper look into why I’d be accepted into the PE family and get these words I’ve typed out with Law And Order on in the background as I sip a beer after a day of work, posted onto the Profane site instead of one I had to make with pics of cats or dogs and plug on facebook. So I’ll leave you with my resume/credentials, and then next week I’ll be on the road with Common Enemy so I’ll probably to a tour report blog for those two weeks, and when I get back I can go over past encounters or just wax poetic… Or I might write several from the road if I get board because Blog Master Ben Crew said to do it as much as I want.

I grew up in a city called Elyria, that currently has a population in the 54-55 thousand range. So not a big city. We were about 30 minutes from Cleveland though, so later on in my teenage years and early 20’s at least there was what seemed like a big city close by. I’m gonna jump ahead and skip a lot of stuff I’ll go into at some point, but when I was in high school, a friend of a friends dad opened a music venue in down town Elyria called The Spot, and me and a few friends would hang out there. I became friends with the owner through my love of music, and would help out where I could and pretty much worked for free in exchange for getting in free.  My friend Ben and I saved our money and booked the first sold out show there by booking MC Chris on his first real tour. Eventually, a band called American Distress came through, which had Skwert from Choking Victim on vocals, and Shayne, the bassist for Choking Victim during No Gods/No Managers was there merch guy. He ended up meeting another friend of a friend, and they ended up dating for several years. I eventually became very good friends with both of them and lived with them in Ohio for a while and would go to C-Squat in Manhattan to visit them, and would eventually become friends with the entire building and lived there off and on for a few years in various peoples rooms, either watching it while they were away, sleeping in there beds, and sometimes on the floor. I booked the Star Fucking Hipsters on there first tour for one of several Ohio dates and then caught a ride with them to Chicago to catch a ride with a band called Destroy Everything, (on Skwerts label, Tent City) back to Ohio.

I’ll go into future band stories (and there are a lot), but I’m realizing this is already getting a bit long for a first post that just says who I am, so I’ll just list bands I’ve shared road time with, booked, etc. I’ve done merch and drove a few times for Leftover Crack, booked and caught rides from Millions of Dead Cops, worked with Punk Island and ABC No Rio , and am friends with and booked bands (several of which have been in PE at some point) such as Hellmouth, Suicide Machines, Mustard Plug, Morning Glory, She Rides, In Defence, Disaster Strikes, Phobia, Common Enemy, Agitator, Trace The Veins, Still Alive, Antiseptic, Death Mold, Skelptarsis, Star Fucking Hipsters, Mouth Sewn Shut, Opposition Rising, Embrace The Kill, (A) Truth, Wreak Havoc, Destroy Everything, Ray Grady’s, and a ton more. I’ve only played in two bands, one in Ohio that didn’t do much called Counterfeit America, and the C-Squat house band Dog That Bites Everyone. Through Dog That Bites Everyone I got to have the honor of playing with Steve Lake (Zounds) and the most amazing show I will ever play, opening for Steve Ignorants Last Supper Tour (I still owe so much thanks to my friend Joanne who booked that show and let us play).

I still go on the road with bands because I’m lucky enough to have a job that currently lets me, and I’m still involved with helping out bands and hope to be in one again soon. Anyone reading this in New York that’s interested in starting a new project, feel free to hit me up. Or just to write and say this blog sucks. Just e-mail me at PornoDave666@yahoo.com

I’ll leave it there for now. I’ll try to write again soon, at least to post the Common Enemy tour dates in case any PE followers want to come out to the shows and talk or share a beer. It’s 11:12 now, so I’m gonna enjoy the subtle panic of thinking in the back of my head that maybe, just maybe, the world might end in the next 48 minutes.

Rifle Diet frontcvr

Those who have followed Profane Existence over the years are more than familiar with GARMONBOZIA. Their singer, Mariko, was very vocal about issues of racism, sexism, homophobia and awareness of mental illness. She is back with a new band, RIFLE DIET. Recommended for fans of Garmonbozia, Disfear, Oroku, & Wolfbrigade.  They are every bit as heavy and brutal and still full of spite for the systems of oppression that plague our scene. We are proud to announce that they will be joining the Profane family and their new 7″ Abuse Begets Abuse will be #4 in the Limited Edition Singles Series due out April 2013. Sign up to get the first six records of the series (including  RIFLE DIET – Abuse begets Abuse) on GLOW-IN-THE-DARK Vinyl and exclusive patch.

I’m glad that they spent their rent money on making this CD because it’s worth it. These guys from Guelph, Ontario have put fifteen melodic punk rock songs out for you to crank up and shout along to. They have a street punk feel to the gang vocals and the singer has the raspy vocals that work really well on these tracks. The band is tight with some stop/starts and the melody to have your head bobbing along right away. These guys have a good time wrapped up in this CD, like a party that you really are excited about going to and don’t want it to end too soon. I’m glad that I found these guys and hope that the next stuff of theirs that I hear will ge just as good. I really liked this CD and you should go grab at least a download of it and go check them out if you get the chance. (Rick E.)

After an amazing crop of sunchokes in our garden this year, we are still exploring new ways to use them. Hopefully we find a few we like, because I planted twice as many at the end of the season! Here’s my latest experiment.

Preheat oven to 350F.

Sift together 2 cups flour, 1 TBSP baking powder and 1.5 tsp sea salt. Add 1 cup boiled and mashed sunchokes, 1 TBSP olive oil and 1 TBSP non dairy milk. Mix until dough forms, shape into biscuits and bake for 20 minutes. There you have it. The chokes give the bread an interesting flavor and a potato bread like texture.

0 Crutches – D-Beat Tsunami EP

Crutches - D-Beat Tsunami
I love just about every d-beat band that has ever come out of Sweden. From Anti Cimex, Wolfpack, Totalitär, Avskum and everything in between. If I had to choose another music genre that I like, it would have to be fast and heavy distorted punk from Japan like Death Side and Crow. Who I’m sure took great influence from the aforesaid bands. As well as their music of course it’s the bleak imagery on their records. That too is another thing I love, the look and sound from a vinyl record. Now before I wander off and rant about other things I like, I should say that I am trying to build this all up to a point. So let’s turn up the overdrive and mix all that stuff together. Now we have a great new 7″ vinyl EP by Crutches from Malmö, Sweden.

I think the title alone ‘D-Beat Tsunami’ shows they wear their influence on their sleeves. So with that in mind, I couldn’t wait to put this on the record player and up the volume. The EP’s intro riffs and vocals are reminiscent of Scottish band Sedition, then it shifts into heavy D-beat with cries of ‘fire’ being shouted from behind the chaos. The next track on this side opens up with the sound of what’s like someone blowing into a plastic pipe. Then it goes into a real stomping punk beat and riff through a wall of furious feedback. Lyrically the band sing about homophobic idiot’s, the constant war/hate against world governments and burning the place to the ground.

Now for the ancient custom of turning the record over and lining up the needle. And into an industrial sound of banging pipes and voice samples. This of course leads us nicely into another reign of squalling distortion accompanied by strong gusts of shrieked vocals with a stomping d-beat. If you like d-beat punk or even if you think you don’t. Have a listen to the sheer profusion and devotion to sound of distortion. Ten out of ten fists for this. [on Distroy Records]

A Japanese punk band with a fair bit of MOTORHEAD and MC5 in their sound as well as some hard rock. Some gang vocals from females, crazed rocking tunes and a band having a good time, what more could you ask for? These four songs are produced with a lot of grit and it makes it feel like it was recorded back in the late 70’s or early 80’s. The singer has some gruffness to his voice, the band is smashing away at their instruments and it’s all a glorious noise. This is going to be one of those bands that I hope keeps putting out stuff in North America because it would be a shame to be hard to get, they rock out and should have you more rock oriented punk fans lapping this up.
