FLOWER’s tedious approach to writing/creating/drawing their debut LP was carefully thought out and the result is a monumental anarcho punk /crust record.
“Hardly A Dream” Takes us on a bleak journey through the dark side of society. As soon as you drop the needle a dark atmosphere is immediately created with a slow intro featuring arpeggio guitar work that builds into pummeling d-beat crust. The albums vocals then leave you with a feeling of being crushed by the ever-present weight of living through our modern world of late stage capitalism that was built on the falsehoods of the so called American dream, religious hypocrisy’s, nationalism, and the greed of humankind.
FLOWER take many cues from predecessors and are most often (and rightfully so) compared to NAUSEA but they also take a heavy influence from ANTISECT, SACRILEGE & other greats. The artwork has a very RUDIMENTARY PENI feel and the record comes with an amazing 24.5 X 34.75 CRASS style poster jacket. All art work was meticulously hand drawn and overseen by the guitarist Willow in true DIY style and spirit. Willow was also cool enough to draw up a special shirt for the record release featuring an alternative PROFANE EXISTENCE backprint!

AGNOSY is back to present us with a ferocious beast of an album that can only be forged by the anger and frustration of living in today’s world. “When Daylight Reveals The Torture” aggressively attacks evils such the current rise of fascism and animal abuse. It intelligently and passionately touches on the Afrin invasion and the revolution in Rojava and shows nothing but utter disgust toward the arrogance of humankind’s lust for greed and power that will inevitably lead us down paths of war and environmental devastation.

The long-awaited sophomore album from Gothenburg stenchcore band Swordwielder is a brooding behemoth, constructed from the filthiest and heftiest strains of punk and metal. System Overlord shimmers with apocalyptic visions, and it’s overflowing with all the grim atmospherics and intimidating intensity that defines consummate crushing crust.
Too much hype? No way… And no apologies, either. Swordwielder deal in definitive stenchcore on System Overlord, and much like their full-length debut, 2013’s Grim Visions of Battle, the band’s latest release is a knockout. Swordwielder’s harsh, gruff and dark sound owes a significant debt to old school icons like Amebix, Axegrinder, Deviated Instinct, and Antisect, and they mix and mangle their influences and leave ’em to rot on the battlefield.
Plenty of hammering rage drives System Overlord tracks like “Violent Revolution,” “Savage Execution” and “Cyborgs,” and thundering epics like “Corrupt Future” and “Northern Lights” exhibit subtler strengths, mixing guttural growls and clean vocals with crashing percussion and dirge-laden riffs. Swordwielder exudes tightly coiled aggression from start to finish here—songs rise from the ashes of desolation, and resounding calls for action and resistance ring loud. BeforeI start, I’d like to apologize. My computer is not letting me insert the proper symbol, so I have to type AE instead. That being said…
Amazing! It would seem as if these folks are incapable of writing bad material. I’ve had this album in my possession for a little while now and it keeps getting better with every listen. New things seem to pop up while trying to follow the densely woven melodies. In true crust form, the title track opens with political news samples, then blasts right into high speed melodic crust that has a bit 0f a Tragedy feel to it. Drukner, the second track, switches between rhythms and time signitures with dizzying grace. As they blas through the 3rd track, the melodies fall aside and are consumed by an early 90s black metal melee with a very minimalist feel to it, but maintain the duel vocal style that carries their sound. Quite a contrast from the lush body of their more melodic songs. FORRAEDERI continues this grim and frostbitten onslaught through to the intro of the last song where they reign the terror back in and it explodes back into melody then slows into doomy riffing over blast beats, a pause, and back to work. Seven songs is definitley not enough. It’s like eating at NOMA: they serve seven tiny, eplosively beautiful courses that leave you wanting just a bit more, but this album is totally affordableand you won’t get anything weird like scavenged moss seasoned with ants. The vocals might be the best I’ve heard in a really long time, too. One low and gruff, the other higher and raspy in an apocalyptic compliment delivering the socio-political commentary that FORRAEDERI write so well. And to wrap it up, this album comes with a banger of a huge fold out poster. That’ll do FORRAEDERI, that’ll do. (Jake)
Crushing D-Beat Kångpunk behind a raw wall of distortion!
After 2 Ep’s(one released as a cassette) DÖDLÄGE unleash their first LP – ”Ritual Slaughter”! For those unfamiliar with one of Portland’s better kept secrets, prepare to be crushed! DÖDLÄGE are a raw grind/crust band that belt out old school crust the way it was meant to be played! Highly influenced by Swedish Kångpunk (the word DÖDLÄGE is Swedish for “Deadlock”), you can expect a large Scandi influence. DÖDLÄGE mix the more raw eras of ANTI-CIMEX with the earlier years of crust/grind bands like EXTREME NOISE TERROR and DISRUPT. You might be thinking thats it’s be done before, and it has… but every once in a while a band does it right! DÖDLÄGE are able to maintain a fine balance of bringing something fresh to the table while taking you back to the earlier glory years of the genre. ”Ritual Slaughter” is sixteen ear bleeding tracks of raw crust/grind that will have you banging your fist and grinding your teeth while craving for more!
Ah…another fine bit of music sent to me from Christopher. Before I get into the sounds, just take a look at the cover art. Black, grey and white, simple yet powerful and there’s a cat on the back. A lot of people think that dogs are punk, but we all know the truth. All Cats Are Beautiful. Anyway, this little gem, instead of being doomy blackened crust, goes the direction of high energy hardcore that would not have been altogether out of place playing with some of the more aggressive hc bands back in the 80s and can easily demolish much of today’s hardcore. The lyrics are less political and more like personal reflections of the hardcore scene and the darker side of emotions. CONCRETE STEPS gives props to the bands that write and play because they love it instead of being concerned with getting props and also address the current state of over-saturation of bands with recycled riffs and lyrics. One track appears to come from the angle of someone who deals with stress by cutting themselves and another song is about getting ripped off in Paris. Great delivery with great vocals! Supporting the lyrics are furious(yet tastefully played)beats with solid time changes that carry the all out onslaught of guitar and bass. I’m a huge fan of their tone. Besides the writing being top shelf, the production is crazy good. And to think that these guys do their own mixing and mastering and release their own albums! D.I.fuckingY.!!! This 7″ goes perfectly with both coffee and beer. I can’t recommend this enough. Cheers! (Jake)

Silence are a highly active post-punk/peace-punk band from Pittsburgh, PA. “The Deafening Sound of Absolutely Nothing” strives (and succeeds) to achieve the perfect balance between peace and post punk. By taking influences from The Mob, Bauhaus, Zounds, Killing Joke, Amebix, Crass, Conflict, Internal Autonomy and Joy Division SILENCE have created what can only be described a brilliant debut LP. At one moment this record is dark, heavy, and atmospheric and then the next moment it makes you want to dance and sing along. Lyrically SILENCE are much closer to the anarcho side of the previously listed influences. Lyrics focus on a variety of topics but often have a strong focus on the way punk and activist communities deal with political struggle in our current political climate.
“The Deafening Sound of Absolutely Nothing” comes with a 16 page magazine size zine containing lyrics, personal writings and song explanations. Designed, printed and assembled by the band themselves in true D.I.Y. fashion.
Silence will be having a record release show in their hometown of Pittsburgh PA at the Rock Room Friday April 22nd with SHADOW AGE and SKELETON HANDS. Then later this month SILENCE will embark on a full United States tour to support “The Deafening Sound of Absolutely Nothing”. Here is a list of dates. Once the drums of war begin it’s hard to make them stop. The noise silences the dissidents once the bombs begin to drop. All those who call for peace will be mocked and pushed aside. In 10 years they’ll admit we were right after many thousands more have died.

Finally after many delays from the pressing plant the WARWOUND Demo’s LP “A Huge Black Cloud” is out and copies are moving fast!
Recorded in 1983, this record contains 15 songs from 3 sessions. With a few different takes you get a total of 25 blistering tracks. For those unfamiliar with WARWOUND, they are a UK band formed in 82. WARWOUND recorded 3 demos in 83 before disbanding and members went on to join THE VARUKERS and form SACRILEGE. These demos never received an official release… until now! Highly influenced by DISCHARGE, WARWOUND is one of the first bands ever to take D-Beat Punk to a raw and intense level. Recently reformed in 2015, original guitarist Damian is now joined by Ian Glasper on bass and Rat Varuker on vocals. After a few gigs in the UK word is spreading fast of the relentless onslaught of a live show these veterans put on. WARWOUND have also recently hit the studio to record for the first time in over 30 years. Needless to say WARWOUND is back with a vengeance!
