Making Punk A Threat Again!

  • The long awaited debut LP from NYC’s FLOWER “Hardly A Dream” is finally set to arrive.

FLOWER’s tedious approach to writing/creating/drawing their debut LP was carefully thought out and the result is a monumental anarcho punk /crust record.

“Hardly A Dream” Takes us on a bleak journey through the dark side of society. As soon as you drop the needle a dark atmosphere is immediately created with a slow intro featuring arpeggio guitar work that builds into pummeling d-beat crust. The albums vocals then leave you with a feeling of being crushed by the ever-present weight of living through our modern world of late stage capitalism that was built on the falsehoods of the so called American dream, religious hypocrisy’s, nationalism, and the greed of humankind.

FLOWER take many cues from predecessors and are most often (and rightfully so) compared to NAUSEA but they also take a heavy influence from ANTISECT, SACRILEGE & other greats. The artwork has a very RUDIMENTARY PENI feel and the record comes with an amazing 24.5 X 34.75 CRASS style poster jacket. All art work was meticulously hand drawn and overseen by the guitarist Willow in true DIY style and spirit. Willow was also cool enough to draw up a special shirt for the record release featuring an alternative PROFANE EXISTENCE backprint!

  • Finally, the third LP from AGNOSY has arrived!

    AGNOSY-cover

Dark, heavy, galloping crust from the streets of London. AGNOSY is back to present us with a ferocious beast of an album that can only be forged by the anger and frustration of living in today’s world. “When Daylight Reveals The Torture” aggressively attacks evils such the current rise of fascism and animal abuse. It intelligently and passionately touches on the Afrin invasion and the revolution in Rojava and shows nothing but utter disgust toward the arrogance of humankind’s lust for greed and power that will inevitably lead us down paths of war and environmental devastation.

AGNOSY – Live at SCUMFEST in London. 2011

While lyrically AGNOSY are much more politicly straight forward this time around than on previous releases, musically they have expanded on their sound to create a dark and moody atmosphere while at the same time staying crust as fuck. To say they know what they are doing would be an understatement from this band of vets whose members have played in HIATUS, HEALTH HAZARD, and BEGINNING OF THE END.

Long galloping intros are followed up by traditional d-beat, fierce solo’s are then meet with vicious vocals and pulverizing bass in a brilliant recording captured by Lewis Johns at The Ranch Production House and was mastered by Brad Boatright at Portland’s legendary Audiosiege. We then pressed on deluxe heavyweight 150-gram vinyl,  printed on reverse board jackets, and included an 11in x 22in gatefold insert to bring you a high quality and truly epic record.

Review by Craig Hayes from “Your Last Rites”…
    Swordwielder – System Overlord
Heavyweight punk fanatics take note: System Overlord is a fucking triumph. The long-awaited sophomore album from Gothenburg stenchcore band Swordwielder is a brooding behemoth, constructed from the filthiest and heftiest strains of punk and metal. System Overlord shimmers with apocalyptic visions, and it’s overflowing with all the grim atmospherics and intimidating intensity that defines consummate crushing crust.

Too much hype? No way… And no apologies, either. Swordwielder deal in definitive stenchcore on System Overlord, and much like their full-length debut, 2013’s Grim Visions of Battle, the band’s latest release is a knockout. Swordwielder’s harsh, gruff and dark sound owes a significant debt to old school icons like Amebix, Axegrinder, Deviated Instinct, and Antisect, and they mix and mangle their influences and leave ’em to rot on the battlefield.

Plenty of hammering rage drives System Overlord tracks like “Violent Revolution,” “Savage Execution” and “Cyborgs,” and thundering epics like “Corrupt Future” and “Northern Lights” exhibit subtler strengths, mixing guttural growls and clean vocals with crashing percussion and dirge-laden riffs. Connoisseurs of corpse-dragging crust will love the brute-force belligerence of “Absolute Fear,” “Nuclear Winter,” and “Second Attack,” which rain down like merciless mortar barrages. As a rule, all of System Overlord‘s mammoth tracks chug and churn with grinding muscle, while reeking of squalor and decay.

Swordwielder exudes tightly coiled aggression from start to finish here—songs rise from the ashes of desolation, and resounding calls for action and resistance ring loud. If you’re a fan of heavy-hitters like Fatum, War//Plague, Carnage, Zygome, Cancer Spreading or (insert your favorite hefty crust crew here), System Overlord‘s trampling tempo and strapping sound are bound to appeal.

4 The end is really fucking nigh…

  • · News · PE Web Zine

Nah not really. But the west coast office is going to cease operations at the end of October. I have had to take a good hard look at my priorities and realized that I can’t keep giving PE the attention that it deserves. All review materials should be sent to the Minneapolis office: Profane Existence / PO Box 18051 / Minneapolis, MN  / 55418 / USA //

Questions regarding columns, features etc. should go through Dan and Ben.

Cheers and many thanks!!

0 Masked Intruder/The Turkletons Split 7 inch – REVIEW

  • September 28, 2012

Well here is an amazing pop punk release.  MASKED INTRUDER hail from Milwaukee,WI and play a really catchy pop punk.  It’s like if THE BRIEFS and DILLINGER 4 and a child and then these 4 dudes with masks came out and this is how they would play.  The identity of all the band is mysterious they all wear color coded masks.  Blue is the singer, Green is on guitar, Yellow is on Bass and Red plays drums.  Total mystery on who they are but on this release you get 3 brand new tracks of catchy pop punk that will get you hooked real fast.  Flip this bad boy over and you get THE TURKLETONS who sound very similar to MASKED INTRUDER but not so much towards the punk side of things like THE BRIEFS more of OFF WITH THEIR HEADS style pop punk more on the poppy side of things.  Plus they are from Minneapolis where everyone should know that’s where a lot of the best pop punk bands come out of. With all that said A+ release here from my friends at RAD GIRLFRIEND RECORDS. (Download card comes with this release) (Bezerker)

0 Oiltanker / No Tomorrow split LP review – GUEST REVIEW BY AUNTY SOCIAL

  • September 28, 2012
  • by stinkbot
  • · PE Web Zine · Reviews

A pairing of two East Coast crust bands by means of Profane Existence, this definitely sounded like an exciting release when I first got word of it.  OILTANKER has a pretty killer sound mixing crust and hardcore, while NO TOMORROW is mostly crust-laden D-beat- what more can a crusty ask for?  The two previous releases OILTANKER has are exemplary (the Crusades 7″ and the Shadow of Greed LP) and NO TOMORROW’s demo tape was heavy and epic in its own right.  This was a record designed for success.
The Oiltanker side is a continuation of that crust-core sound-rolling drum beat, equal sounding guitars and bass, and raspy hardcore shouts.  It isn’t innovative or progressive, but it kept my attention for the duration.  All the songs were pretty good- worth streaming / downloading, at least.  If you like heavy crust or have been a fan of OILTANKER before, you won’t be disappointed.  NO TOMORROW’s side is a mix of DISCHARGE, TRAGEDY, and I can even hear a slight AGNOSTIC FRONT influence (Victim in Pain/ Cause for Alarm era).  I do want to like this- I really do.  However, the bass sound is almost overwhelming, and the guitar is hard to hear, given that the band seems to do the “wall of sound” style (that being guitars tuned down, bass amped up, and drums in a mid-tempo sort of beat).  Some like that sound, but I like to hear the guitars as a separate part of the music (to the band’s credit, they do have a couple break-off points where they have a separate guitar track that?s much more distinct).  Also, the mid-tempo beat of this throughout can get dreary after a while.  Not “bad” per se, but I didn’t get overly excited.
Overall, a decent split, with OILTANKER being the better side.  I’d say stream this first, and it’s likely a case of genre music for genre people.  I like the mixing job on the this record, too; props to the audio engineer.

0 A New Dawn-Demo 2012 cdr -REVIEW

Here is what I expect to get as a profane reviewer some nice heavy metal/crust jams that will make me want to head bang. With that said here is a demo from A NEW DAWN very nice name and very heavy tracks it first starts off with a well put together intro and if you know me I’m not a big fan of intros or outros  but this is an exception this is an amazing Intro then it gets right down and dirty into some explosive riffs and growling vocals this would be a great addition to the Profane label sounds like a breath of fresh air to a lot of the stuff out there right now as I sit here and listen to this it reminds me a lot of locals KONTRASEKT and maybe a little dose of DRESDEN thrown in there.  Also when ever you put out a demo and send it to get reviewed it helps if you have some gnarly packaging which this does it’s a screened printed cloth cover sewn together to make a cd case with which is very cool.  Appearance goes along way with me and this is very appealing to the eyes and it helps that the tracks are awesome. Go follow the link below for a FREE download or go grab a hard copy which I’m glad I have. (Bezerker)

0 Vayizaku-We’ll Always Remember CD-REVIEW

  • September 28, 2012

  • · PE Web Zine · Reviews

Well here is my very first ever review of a full length CD. The band (pronounced “Va-Yee-Za-Koo”) Which means “to call out” in Hebrew. With that said not even listening to this record I’m already excited to listen to it.  Well I was surprised that’s for sure I was not expecting this sound. These tracks pack a lot of pop punk with keyboards/piano. The singer has a very distinctive voice that is really easy on the ears.  Most of these songs remind me of later BLINK-182 and with the keyboards really reminds me of  REGGIE AND THE FULL EFFECT.  The title track which has a video is “Cool Bus” is an anthem about nothing more then riding the cool bus whether that is a full sized bus or short bus I don’t know but who cares.  Also on this cd is a track of FIDDLER ON THE ROOF theme with them playing over it which is kinda cool. All in all there are 13 tracks all very well put together and I would say none of these are bad tracks all really catchy and put together, all I can picture is Tom Delonge from BLINK-182 singing all these tracks for some reason.  I see a big future for this band they just need to get out there more I believe. Awesome self-released (Bezerker)

0 Sex Bunker – Elephant Skull – 7 inch – REVIEW

  • · PE Web Zine · Reviews
With a name like Sex Bunker how can this not be good right?  Well I was surprised to judge a band by its name.  To start off the A side is “I’d buy that for a dollar” basically a ballad of how Americans need to consumer everything that is flashed in front of them on the television.  Next is “Only Natural” a very nice snotty punk song  with some yelling vocals.  “A Man who had Faith”  followed by  “Sir, We Are they/Where I’m From”  and finally “Church of the Glowing Rectangle” all very well put together songs with some vocals reminding me of ANS more of the talking over the tracks then singing over them. With the last track talking about No one being there for him/them.  All in all I’m kinda sad I missed them in Minneapolis when they came through. Cool splatter packaging for this seven inch and you get stickers! Self-released.(XbezerkerX)

2 Grand Jury Update

  • September 15, 2012
  • by stinkbot
  • · News · PE Web Zine

Around 3:00 PM (Thursday 9/13), Matt was taken to a contempt of court hearing. The judge decided to make the hearing private instead of public. It is our understanding that this action is unprecedented since the McCarthy Era of political witch hunts.

The entire 2nd floor of the Federal Court House in Seattle where the grand jury itself was taking place was closed off to the public as well as the 13th floor where the contempt hearings were taking place. As of this writing, Leah has not been taken to her contempt hearing yet.

As of 4:00 PM, Matt is now in federal custody. He has another hearing scheduled on Wednesday, September 26th. We do not know where is being taken yet, but supporters are still at the court house to support him.
As of 4:30 PM, Leah was released and re-subpoenaed. She does not know the date of her next subpoena.
We are asking for supporters to call Judge Richard Jones in his chambers at 206-370-8870 and demand that Matt not be charged with contempt and be released.

WRITE MATT!

Writing to prisoners is an easy and important way to help ease the isolation of imprisonment. Please write letters to Matt!

Make sure that your name and return address, as well as Matt’s full name and inmate number, are included on the envelope and all pages of the letter. There is no limit on how many letters Matt is allowed to have in his cell at any one time. He is allowed to have up to 20 photographs in his cell at once, so send him pictures too! 1 Resist The Northwest Grand Jury

  • · News

As most of you know, activists in the North West, and in California’s bay are facing political repression in the form of grand juries. Most of these folks have decided to resist the grand jury, stating that they invoke their 5th amendment right to remain silent because they feel the grand jury is seeking information designed to infringe or chill on their rights and the movement in general. A number of people have already gone before the grand jury with mixed outcomes; some have been excused, and unfortunately a couple resisters have been re-subpoenaed to appear before the grand jury at a later date.
