Making Punk A Threat Again!

  • The long awaited debut LP from NYC’s FLOWER “Hardly A Dream” is finally set to arrive.

FLOWER’s tedious approach to writing/creating/drawing their debut LP was carefully thought out and the result is a monumental anarcho punk /crust record.

“Hardly A Dream” Takes us on a bleak journey through the dark side of society. As soon as you drop the needle a dark atmosphere is immediately created with a slow intro featuring arpeggio guitar work that builds into pummeling d-beat crust. The albums vocals then leave you with a feeling of being crushed by the ever-present weight of living through our modern world of late stage capitalism that was built on the falsehoods of the so called American dream, religious hypocrisy’s, nationalism, and the greed of humankind.

FLOWER take many cues from predecessors and are most often (and rightfully so) compared to NAUSEA but they also take a heavy influence from ANTISECT, SACRILEGE & other greats. The artwork has a very RUDIMENTARY PENI feel and the record comes with an amazing 24.5 X 34.75 CRASS style poster jacket. All art work was meticulously hand drawn and overseen by the guitarist Willow in true DIY style and spirit. Willow was also cool enough to draw up a special shirt for the record release featuring an alternative PROFANE EXISTENCE backprint!

  • Finally, the third LP from AGNOSY has arrived!

    AGNOSY-cover

Dark, heavy, galloping crust from the streets of London. AGNOSY is back to present us with a ferocious beast of an album that can only be forged by the anger and frustration of living in today’s world. “When Daylight Reveals The Torture” aggressively attacks evils such the current rise of fascism and animal abuse. It intelligently and passionately touches on the Afrin invasion and the revolution in Rojava and shows nothing but utter disgust toward the arrogance of humankind’s lust for greed and power that will inevitably lead us down paths of war and environmental devastation.

AGNOSY – Live at SCUMFEST in London. 2011

While lyrically AGNOSY are much more politicly straight forward this time around than on previous releases, musically they have expanded on their sound to create a dark and moody atmosphere while at the same time staying crust as fuck. To say they know what they are doing would be an understatement from this band of vets whose members have played in HIATUS, HEALTH HAZARD, and BEGINNING OF THE END.

Long galloping intros are followed up by traditional d-beat, fierce solo’s are then meet with vicious vocals and pulverizing bass in a brilliant recording captured by Lewis Johns at The Ranch Production House and was mastered by Brad Boatright at Portland’s legendary Audiosiege. We then pressed on deluxe heavyweight 150-gram vinyl,  printed on reverse board jackets, and included an 11in x 22in gatefold insert to bring you a high quality and truly epic record.

Review by Craig Hayes from “Your Last Rites”…
    Swordwielder – System Overlord
Heavyweight punk fanatics take note: System Overlord is a fucking triumph. The long-awaited sophomore album from Gothenburg stenchcore band Swordwielder is a brooding behemoth, constructed from the filthiest and heftiest strains of punk and metal. System Overlord shimmers with apocalyptic visions, and it’s overflowing with all the grim atmospherics and intimidating intensity that defines consummate crushing crust.

Too much hype? No way… And no apologies, either. Swordwielder deal in definitive stenchcore on System Overlord, and much like their full-length debut, 2013’s Grim Visions of Battle, the band’s latest release is a knockout. Swordwielder’s harsh, gruff and dark sound owes a significant debt to old school icons like Amebix, Axegrinder, Deviated Instinct, and Antisect, and they mix and mangle their influences and leave ’em to rot on the battlefield.

Plenty of hammering rage drives System Overlord tracks like “Violent Revolution,” “Savage Execution” and “Cyborgs,” and thundering epics like “Corrupt Future” and “Northern Lights” exhibit subtler strengths, mixing guttural growls and clean vocals with crashing percussion and dirge-laden riffs. Connoisseurs of corpse-dragging crust will love the brute-force belligerence of “Absolute Fear,” “Nuclear Winter,” and “Second Attack,” which rain down like merciless mortar barrages. As a rule, all of System Overlord‘s mammoth tracks chug and churn with grinding muscle, while reeking of squalor and decay.

Swordwielder exudes tightly coiled aggression from start to finish here—songs rise from the ashes of desolation, and resounding calls for action and resistance ring loud. If you’re a fan of heavy-hitters like Fatum, War//Plague, Carnage, Zygome, Cancer Spreading or (insert your favorite hefty crust crew here), System Overlord‘s trampling tempo and strapping sound are bound to appeal.

I was planning a “clear my head” American trip for the spring. I was going through some shit, and realized that I needed to get on the road, see some friends, and hopefully rock out a couple times – just get away for a bit. Well, I was minding my own business, wasting time on the internet one evening a few months ago, and I received an email from Bitty of DRESDEN. “We’re going on tour in May. Want to come along and watch the distro/merch? Haul a bit of gear?” I thought about it for a couple seconds, and replied in the affirmative. The tour would take place in late May, and would focus on the Midwest and the East Coast.
Originally, I was only supposed to do the first week, as they were going to be meeting up with DEVIATED INSTINCT in New York, and share the van for the rest of the tour. There probably wasn’t going to be any room in the van for me, which was fine. I had plans to go down South anyway. Well, it turned out that there was room for me for the whole tour after all, and my plans down south sort of fell through. Funny how things work out, isn’t it? Anyway, I ended up doing the whole tour, lending my salesman and gear-haulin’ expertise to a bunch of sweethearts for two weeks. Killer.
This here’s a tale of love, death, deception, theft, rock, roll, Rick-rollin’, cheese curds, and general bad-assiness.

0 Jordan Halliday RELEASED!

  • July 22, 2012
  • by stinkbot
  • · News · PE Web Zine

Yesterday, Jordan Halliday was released from prison after serving 10 months for refusing to cooperate with a grand jury that was fishing for information about the animal rights scene in Salt Lake City, UT.

After refusing to cooperate with a grand jury in 2009, Halliday was jailed for 4 months banking on the hope that the sentence would make him talk. Halliday still resisted the grand jury. He was released and then swiftly indicted with criminal contempt of court for refusing to testify the same grand jury. On July 27, 2010, Jordan pled guilty to the charge of criminal contempt of court.

Although he was sentenced to serve 10 months on November 3, 2010, Jordan’s defense team filed an appeal which bought him some more time. The appeal was denied by the court and Jordan was arrested to start his sentence on January 9, 2012. Jordan’s courage to resist the grand jury has been an inspirational act to us all, especially for the grand jury resistors to come. Check out this post where you can read a letter from Jordan talking about resisting the grand jury! Also check this link to see a perfect example of how to deal with a grand jury.
We are so happy that Jordan is now in the loving arms of friends and family outside of prison walls. It is vital to remember that prisoner support does not end with prisoner release. Prison is a fucked up and lonely place, right now Jordan needs our support more than ever. If you are on twitter, please show jordan some love. If you are on facebook, tell him how happy you are that he’s out!

Danny-Vocals, Keyboards
Mike- Drums

Desmond-Guitar

Describe your sound.
The 80’s- with all of the hairspray and none of the guitar solos. Well, some guitar solos, but at least we don’t use a drum machine.

What was the main impetus for starting this band?
Dez– We needed an outlet for the bleakness and depression that has engulfed our lives and threatens our future. We all wanted to be in a band like this for a while, writing gloomy punk and deathrock songs on our own. We hung out, stopped talking about how great 80s goth and post-punk was and started playing it.

Danny– I had a lot of great ideas but I am not a great musician, and didn’t have too much luck in finding people with a similar interest in what kind of band they wanted to pursue, so I was very excited to be around people who were on the same page about what we were going for. It had also occurred to me that if we played bars I may be able to get free drinks.

From Because We Must dot ORG

Another wonderful video that we filmed at the Law and Disorder conference in Portland, OR.
Dylcia Pagan is a former Puerto Rican political prisoner and prisoner of war. Pagan and 11 others were arrested on April 4, 1980, in Evanston, Illinois. They had been linked to more than 100 bombings or attempted bombings since 1974 in their attempt to achieve independence for Puerto Rico.
None of the bombings of which they were convicted resulted in deaths or injuries. Pagan was given a 55-year federal sentence for seditious conspiracy and other charges. She was released early after serving 20 years.

0 APPALACHIAN TERROR UNIT – Black Sands EP

  • July 20, 2012
  • by stinkbot
  • · PE Web Zine · Reviews

For me, APPALACHIAN TERROR UNIT is a band that truly defines what crust should be. Hard and heavy punk, with in your face politics. In an age where the punk scene seems to be defined more by the size of one’s record collection or how perfectly one can clone an obscure overseas hardcore band from 25 years ago, the ATU approach is more than welcome. It seems like forever since I’ve listened to a new record which focuses on environmental and animal concerns, which actually concerns me. In the internet age, has our culture stopped giving a shit about anything? Are the times we’re living in too far gone to even bother doing something as simple as make conscious dietary choices?
Thankfully on this raging new slab of vinyl, ATU has continued on their path of shoving these concerns down our collective throat – we need it. We start off with “Shocked, Shackled and Hanged”, a very potent animal rights song about the horrors of the slaughterhouse. Lyrically, this could be a long, lost CONFLICT tune from way back when they were still relevant. A truly stand out song, for sure. Other topics discussed on this EP include heroin addiction (“Lost in the Darkness”), how fucked up the world is – and how disgusting apathy is in response (“The End of Complacency”), and finally the oil industry – more specifically, the horrific British Petroleum oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico (the title track “Black Sands”). ATU is one of the most important and relevant bands in the punk scene today, and this 7” is among the best material they have recorded to date. It’s my hope that this band will inspire more kids to start thinking about the horrific conditions we face today, and at the very least start putting politics back in punk. 0 UTTER FAILURE 7″ – review

UTTER FAILURE hale from San Jose, CA knowing nothing about this band I put this on my record player to listen to it and I’m hooked from the start.  Being that this got sent to Profane Existence for review I was thinking some heavy D-beat crust, but NO! This is some catchy poppy Pop Punk. A total of 6 songs Spanning 10 minutes the record starts off with “Someday” a very nice guitar intro to amazing semi-positive lyrics and some Wow-Oh Oh Oh’s lets me know that this is going to be some textbook Pop Punk. The only thing that I wasn’t into is track number 3 “The Night” it’s an Instrumental song that would have been completely bad ass with some lyrics over it, but thats just me don’t discourage from picking up this record. The label also put out some other releases to come to find out I own and didn’t even notice what label it was on. For fans of DUN BIN HAD, BANNER PILOT with a little DEAD TO ME thrown in there. Also comes with a free sticker and a download code for the lazy I-pod generation
