Making Punk A Threat Again!

  • The long awaited debut LP from NYC’s FLOWER “Hardly A Dream” is finally set to arrive.

FLOWER’s tedious approach to writing/creating/drawing their debut LP was carefully thought out and the result is a monumental anarcho punk /crust record.

“Hardly A Dream” Takes us on a bleak journey through the dark side of society. As soon as you drop the needle a dark atmosphere is immediately created with a slow intro featuring arpeggio guitar work that builds into pummeling d-beat crust. The albums vocals then leave you with a feeling of being crushed by the ever-present weight of living through our modern world of late stage capitalism that was built on the falsehoods of the so called American dream, religious hypocrisy’s, nationalism, and the greed of humankind.

FLOWER take many cues from predecessors and are most often (and rightfully so) compared to NAUSEA but they also take a heavy influence from ANTISECT, SACRILEGE & other greats. The artwork has a very RUDIMENTARY PENI feel and the record comes with an amazing 24.5 X 34.75 CRASS style poster jacket. All art work was meticulously hand drawn and overseen by the guitarist Willow in true DIY style and spirit. Willow was also cool enough to draw up a special shirt for the record release featuring an alternative PROFANE EXISTENCE backprint!

  • Finally, the third LP from AGNOSY has arrived!

    AGNOSY-cover

Dark, heavy, galloping crust from the streets of London. AGNOSY is back to present us with a ferocious beast of an album that can only be forged by the anger and frustration of living in today’s world. “When Daylight Reveals The Torture” aggressively attacks evils such the current rise of fascism and animal abuse. It intelligently and passionately touches on the Afrin invasion and the revolution in Rojava and shows nothing but utter disgust toward the arrogance of humankind’s lust for greed and power that will inevitably lead us down paths of war and environmental devastation.

AGNOSY – Live at SCUMFEST in London. 2011

While lyrically AGNOSY are much more politicly straight forward this time around than on previous releases, musically they have expanded on their sound to create a dark and moody atmosphere while at the same time staying crust as fuck. To say they know what they are doing would be an understatement from this band of vets whose members have played in HIATUS, HEALTH HAZARD, and BEGINNING OF THE END.

Long galloping intros are followed up by traditional d-beat, fierce solo’s are then meet with vicious vocals and pulverizing bass in a brilliant recording captured by Lewis Johns at The Ranch Production House and was mastered by Brad Boatright at Portland’s legendary Audiosiege. We then pressed on deluxe heavyweight 150-gram vinyl,  printed on reverse board jackets, and included an 11in x 22in gatefold insert to bring you a high quality and truly epic record.

Review by Craig Hayes from “Your Last Rites”…
    Swordwielder – System Overlord
Heavyweight punk fanatics take note: System Overlord is a fucking triumph. The long-awaited sophomore album from Gothenburg stenchcore band Swordwielder is a brooding behemoth, constructed from the filthiest and heftiest strains of punk and metal. System Overlord shimmers with apocalyptic visions, and it’s overflowing with all the grim atmospherics and intimidating intensity that defines consummate crushing crust.

Too much hype? No way… And no apologies, either. Swordwielder deal in definitive stenchcore on System Overlord, and much like their full-length debut, 2013’s Grim Visions of Battle, the band’s latest release is a knockout. Swordwielder’s harsh, gruff and dark sound owes a significant debt to old school icons like Amebix, Axegrinder, Deviated Instinct, and Antisect, and they mix and mangle their influences and leave ’em to rot on the battlefield.

Plenty of hammering rage drives System Overlord tracks like “Violent Revolution,” “Savage Execution” and “Cyborgs,” and thundering epics like “Corrupt Future” and “Northern Lights” exhibit subtler strengths, mixing guttural growls and clean vocals with crashing percussion and dirge-laden riffs. Connoisseurs of corpse-dragging crust will love the brute-force belligerence of “Absolute Fear,” “Nuclear Winter,” and “Second Attack,” which rain down like merciless mortar barrages. As a rule, all of System Overlord‘s mammoth tracks chug and churn with grinding muscle, while reeking of squalor and decay.

Swordwielder exudes tightly coiled aggression from start to finish here—songs rise from the ashes of desolation, and resounding calls for action and resistance ring loud. If you’re a fan of heavy-hitters like Fatum, War//Plague, Carnage, Zygome, Cancer Spreading or (insert your favorite hefty crust crew here), System Overlord‘s trampling tempo and strapping sound are bound to appeal.

Despite the inculcation of helplessness within each there remains great power. Ill at ease with such makes us ill. Learn to see the hand that feeds for what it is. You’ve been fooled if you think you’ve got no power. Refuse to be reduced to a consumer you’re a human being. Define yourself by more than wealth. Define yourself as a human. You don’t need what you’re being sold. Bend your knee to no authority but your own mind. You have the power to avoid the gilded trap. Avarice is what you’re conditioned for. Break the mold discover what’s really valuable to you.

0 Barrenwomb/Remote Split 8 inch Review

a1326143979_2When I say Norway what do you think of? Black metal is what I always think of but BARRENWOMB are from Norway and aren’t Black Metal at all here you have a 2 piece drums and strings band that play very fast and artsy music with there first track “Visual AIDS”, you have a really cool instrumental intro into fast vocals and guitar followed at the end by the same instrumental kind of reminds me of the beginning music in A Clockwork Orange. There second track “Deal or No Krokodil” is a fast a spastic jam only lasting a little over a minute but is equally as good as the first.  REMOTE is a one man noise band from France there only track on this album is “Plaques of Rats” which is and 8 and half minute long guitar solo with drums finally hitting in a little over a third of the way through the song then at the halfway mark the vocals kick in and where has these angry and timid lyrics been the first half is my question.  Very angry vocals go along with the very heavy guitar and drums. All in all the REMOTE track is very heavy and well put together.  And yes you read the header right this is an 8 inch record not a 7 inch bigger is better and fits more on it. Go to their bandcamps and listen to there sides of this split you wont regret it. (XbezerkerX)

482587_199584320150768_415045817_nEven before I put this on my record player I was like “Damn this record is heavy” and after a little research I found out it’s 70 gram vinyl which is cool.  Other then that all I found for this band was there website.  With a name like BLACK CAUCUS you can imagine what comes up.  So with that all behind me I put this record on and OMG this is crazy.  Something I would have never thought someone would send into PROFANE for review.  So what we have here is a Female fronted grunge/garage band with mostly talking into the microphone most of the time and then singing. A total of 6 tracks on this record three on each side.  The titles of the songs are “Anus” “Rickets” “Gout” “Cleft” “Sunburn” and “Flaccid”. What do you expect?  It’s really different experimental drums and guitar over a girl singing. So if you’re into weird and random sounding stuff this record is for you. You can follow the link to there website and listen to it.  By far “Flaccid” is the best track on this, The singer tells you to eat her pussy because it has no calories .  With a  the slogan of fuck me, eat me, fuck it, eat it . How could this be bad (XbezerkerX)

1 Body Betrayal/Disparate Split Cassette Review

a3247895496_2BODY BETRAYAL starts off this split cassette with some of the fastest songs you can think of pissed of female screaming/yelling comes blaring out of my boombox with heavy drums and fast guitar. The first 3 tracks are all less then a minute long and are some grinders. The last three are longer “Call & Response” has a good guitar/drum intro into some really fast and pissed off vocals. The last track “Spilling of Secrets” is where it’s at though.  Flip this bad boy over and now it’s time for DISPARATE.  Another female fronted band with very very pissed off vocals more so then BODY BETRAYAL.  Both bands hail from Washington on this split and if this would represent there scene, what a cool scene it would be.  More of a thrash/punk sound to this band which is really cool reminds me of COKSKAR with the fast and pissed off female vocals.  Another cool thing about this release is it comes with a little zine with all the lyrics.  DO YOURSELF A FAVOR and go download  each side of this split cassette you wont regret it. a3279341353_2All the way from Richmond Virginia we have Disparage.  A D-beat band which you can tell by the first couple seconds into the first track.  Here we have a 5 song cassette. Very lo-fi and to the point on this release, Listen carefully or you wont remember what you listen to every song is short and to the point.  With them being a new band I’m more excited to hear something less lo-fi and something really loud and angry. But for a 5 song ep/demo tape you get the point.  All you PROFANE fans would love this shit, so go check them out and pay the $2 dollars on bandcamp to download this release. (XbezerkerX)

a0634628684_2All the way from Eau Claire Wisconsin comes Accusation 3 dudes playing some very fast and spastic crust/d-beat. A total of  11 crust filled tracks.  Now this is something that I can see someone sending PROFANE.  This is right up all your punx alley, if you like WARTORN, DRESDEN or for some reason AMEBIX this is for you. Heavy guitars and pounding drums with angry and chirpy vocals raining over this release.  This reminds me of the KRANG demo cassette a couple years ago with the duel back and forth female and male vocals. Except these are all dudes.  So I really don’t know what else to say but this is a self-released cassette by the band which is really cool and it’s on a red cassette and professionally printed.  Check out there Bandcamp for a FREE download of this entire album and while your there might as well download there demo. a3594995310_2Wow every time I get something to review from PROFANE I never really think I’ll get a pop punk. But hey sounds like it.  MURMURS hail from Seattle WA and play a very nice version of pop punk like DUN BIN HAD, and INFECTED. This is a re-release on ABORTED SOCIETY RECORDS.  A total of  8 tracks my favorite song off this release is “Lil’ American” singing and falling down at it’s best.  Also some of the lyrical content actually are about things that matter in life instead of all partying and drinking.  The singer has a very recognizable voice to him that makes it sound very gritty and emotional.  “Lunar Wolf” another amazing catchy song with some nice sing along parts all in all a very solid release.  Go to there bandcamp and give it a listen.  Awesome cover art for this album pro printed cassette tape (XbezerkerX)

a1569896901_10Nunhex are a brutal thrash band from Miami.  This 4 song cassette I believe is there first release. This cassette starts off very fast with “Tyrant Twerp” 2 minutes of blistering thrash with a very D-beat drum set.  The vocals throughout this whole album are very angry and very scratchy. This dude is obviously pissed off at something or someone. All the songs are very short and to the point until you et to the last song “False Negative”  then you have 3 minutes off pissed off vocals, heavy thrashing guitar and d-beat drums all very well put together towards the end of the song it’s some noisy crap but other then that. All in all a very solid first release wouldn’t mind seeing and or hearing more of these guys.  I received a pretty big sized decent patch and pin with this also the cassette is pro printed and see through green. So dark and gloomy this piece of wax is.  From the beginning of the A-side to the end of the B-Side this will have you wondering what this amazing music is and where can you get it.  SO this record was put out on HOLY TERROR records and if you’re not familiar with that label you must be living under a rock.  Holy Terror is DWID’s label from INTEGRITY.  He puts out a bunch of good music that you would not normally hear.  BROKEN CROSS is a one man band that had a demo come out and this is that demo on vinyl plus a couple new tracks. While I was gathering paper and cardboard for a bonfire recently, I dumped the packing material out of the box from the last batch of review goodies I was sent quite a while ago and this cassette fell out. While the fire was great, I felt like a total jerk for missing this. By the looks of the cassette and logo I would have expected this to be heavy crust, but I was pleasantly surprised. While I am a big fan of that style, this was a nice surprise. This cassette has seven songs of blazing hardcore that I could swear came straight from the mid 90s even though they’ve only been around for a little over a year. The drums beat furiously pushing the wall of rage created by the guitars and bass. Adding to the mayhem are deep sociopolitical lyrics that are so well written and inspiring. I have to admit that the second time through these songs I was so moved I had to pull out my guitar and shred. By the time the time you read this, there’s a possibility that MASSEXIT will be close to putting out another fine release. I can’t wait! Even though the recording was pretty rough, this is one of the best releases I’ve heard in a very long time(and comes with a sticker). Honest and very well done. (Jake) http://massexitpunk.com/

Back in December, Harvest King Records released one hell of a compilation containing a nice assortment of bands over 20 tracks. Aside from ROYAL RED BRIGADE, KLEINS96, TOMORROW STARTS TODAY and THE JUMP OFF(who all have two), each band has one track to showcase their goods. Something to look forward to is the diversity in sound that everybody brings to the table unlike some comps that give a handful of bands all banging out tunes that, in reality, could all be the same band. The range on this disc hit punk rock, hardcore, indie, country/folk and more. Even better…you can listen to it for free! That’s right, free. So, go to Harvest King’s bandcamp site and check it out. Then, after realizing you like all the bands, order all the albums! (Jake)
