Making Punk A Threat Again!

  • The long awaited debut LP from NYC’s FLOWER “Hardly A Dream” is finally set to arrive.

FLOWER’s tedious approach to writing/creating/drawing their debut LP was carefully thought out and the result is a monumental anarcho punk /crust record.

“Hardly A Dream” Takes us on a bleak journey through the dark side of society. As soon as you drop the needle a dark atmosphere is immediately created with a slow intro featuring arpeggio guitar work that builds into pummeling d-beat crust. The albums vocals then leave you with a feeling of being crushed by the ever-present weight of living through our modern world of late stage capitalism that was built on the falsehoods of the so called American dream, religious hypocrisy’s, nationalism, and the greed of humankind.

FLOWER take many cues from predecessors and are most often (and rightfully so) compared to NAUSEA but they also take a heavy influence from ANTISECT, SACRILEGE & other greats. The artwork has a very RUDIMENTARY PENI feel and the record comes with an amazing 24.5 X 34.75 CRASS style poster jacket. All art work was meticulously hand drawn and overseen by the guitarist Willow in true DIY style and spirit. Willow was also cool enough to draw up a special shirt for the record release featuring an alternative PROFANE EXISTENCE backprint!

  • Finally, the third LP from AGNOSY has arrived!

    AGNOSY-cover

Dark, heavy, galloping crust from the streets of London. AGNOSY is back to present us with a ferocious beast of an album that can only be forged by the anger and frustration of living in today’s world. “When Daylight Reveals The Torture” aggressively attacks evils such the current rise of fascism and animal abuse. It intelligently and passionately touches on the Afrin invasion and the revolution in Rojava and shows nothing but utter disgust toward the arrogance of humankind’s lust for greed and power that will inevitably lead us down paths of war and environmental devastation.

AGNOSY – Live at SCUMFEST in London. 2011

While lyrically AGNOSY are much more politicly straight forward this time around than on previous releases, musically they have expanded on their sound to create a dark and moody atmosphere while at the same time staying crust as fuck. To say they know what they are doing would be an understatement from this band of vets whose members have played in HIATUS, HEALTH HAZARD, and BEGINNING OF THE END.

Long galloping intros are followed up by traditional d-beat, fierce solo’s are then meet with vicious vocals and pulverizing bass in a brilliant recording captured by Lewis Johns at The Ranch Production House and was mastered by Brad Boatright at Portland’s legendary Audiosiege. We then pressed on deluxe heavyweight 150-gram vinyl,  printed on reverse board jackets, and included an 11in x 22in gatefold insert to bring you a high quality and truly epic record.

Review by Craig Hayes from “Your Last Rites”…
    Swordwielder – System Overlord
Heavyweight punk fanatics take note: System Overlord is a fucking triumph. The long-awaited sophomore album from Gothenburg stenchcore band Swordwielder is a brooding behemoth, constructed from the filthiest and heftiest strains of punk and metal. System Overlord shimmers with apocalyptic visions, and it’s overflowing with all the grim atmospherics and intimidating intensity that defines consummate crushing crust.

Too much hype? No way… And no apologies, either. Swordwielder deal in definitive stenchcore on System Overlord, and much like their full-length debut, 2013’s Grim Visions of Battle, the band’s latest release is a knockout. Swordwielder’s harsh, gruff and dark sound owes a significant debt to old school icons like Amebix, Axegrinder, Deviated Instinct, and Antisect, and they mix and mangle their influences and leave ’em to rot on the battlefield.

Plenty of hammering rage drives System Overlord tracks like “Violent Revolution,” “Savage Execution” and “Cyborgs,” and thundering epics like “Corrupt Future” and “Northern Lights” exhibit subtler strengths, mixing guttural growls and clean vocals with crashing percussion and dirge-laden riffs. Connoisseurs of corpse-dragging crust will love the brute-force belligerence of “Absolute Fear,” “Nuclear Winter,” and “Second Attack,” which rain down like merciless mortar barrages. As a rule, all of System Overlord‘s mammoth tracks chug and churn with grinding muscle, while reeking of squalor and decay.

Swordwielder exudes tightly coiled aggression from start to finish here—songs rise from the ashes of desolation, and resounding calls for action and resistance ring loud. If you’re a fan of heavy-hitters like Fatum, War//Plague, Carnage, Zygome, Cancer Spreading or (insert your favorite hefty crust crew here), System Overlord‘s trampling tempo and strapping sound are bound to appeal.

If you live near Minneapolis, MN come out to the Medusa tonight and catch DEVIATED INSTINCT & DRESDEN’s last show of their U.S. Tour. Tonight they play with local ragers Kontrasekt . Help them celebrate the tour despite the recent theft of their van, gear and personal belongings. After tonight Deviate Instinct flies down to Austin to play Chaos In Tejas and then back home to the UK. Dresden heads back to Wisconsin to gear up for the WARTORN/IN DEFENCE West Coast Tour. (Yes, Dresden and Wartorn share over half of the same members!) At any rate this should be a solid show show. See you there!

1 Newly Released FBI “Domestic Terrorism” Training on Anarchists, Environmentalists, Show COINTELPRO Tactics

From Green in the New Red:

http://www.greenisthenewred.com/blog/fbi-domestic-terrorism-training-anarchists-eco/6199/

Newly released FBI presentations show the flawed and misleading information the government is using to train agents to identify and investigate “domestic terrorist” groups such as “black separatists,” anarchists, animal rights activists, and environmentalists.
Among the more troubling portions of the training materials are warnings of activists using the Freedom of Information Act, engaging in non-violent civil disobedience, and gathering in coffee shops.
The domestic terrorism training materials were obtained through the Freedom of Information Act by the ACLU. They offer additional insight into a disturbing pattern of FBI activity misrepresenting political activists as “terrorists” and manufacturing “domestic terrorism threats” where none exist, akin to the notorious COINTELPRO program of J. Edgar Hoover.

It was a week ago tomorrow that I sat right here, on the dirty ass sofa I have, next to my Dad. The weather was about the same as it is today… grey, chilly and drizzling. My Dad lives a couple of hundred miles away and doesn’t like to make the drive over the mountains from the Western Slope of Colorado to the Front Range and the city. In fact he dreads it and complains about it the entire time he is here. He is pretty anti-social and has a low tolerance for people and therefore doesn’t get out much.
The dude trashes my house every time he is here too! He scatters his shit from one end to the other and constantly loses things like his phone and keys. He always brings his scruffy, mangy and stinking dog who growls at my son every chance she gets. Actually that is kind of helpful as I use it as motivator when my son doesn’t want to fall in line and be a good little boy. “Johnnie, put your shoes on”, his reply is often a solid “no” and I follow it with “Johnnie pleeeaaasssse put your shoes on”. “No”. But when that stinky mutt is here I can add “Or I’ll sick the growling dog on you”. He quickly complies. Now before you go ape-shit and think you should call Child Services please understand it is done in fun and with smiles…but it still works.

Bitty’s (Dresden/PE Columnist) van and trailer (containing a guitar and bass rig)  were stolen last night outside of the Deviated Instinct / Dresden show at Now That’s Class in Cleveland, OH. Both bands were traveling in the vehicle. Everybody is safe. The cops recovered the van earlier today. All gear and personal items that were in the van are gone and there was damage done to the dash board and trailer. The bands regret to inform you that they will not be making it to the show in Detroit tonight but do plan to finish out the tour in Chicago and Minneapolis. Then Deviated Instinct will fly out to play Chaos In Tejas. Bitty and the band are out thousands of dollars in damages, lost gear and personal items. 0 SCARRED SOCIETY s/t CD

  • May 29, 2012
  • by stinkbot
  • · PE Web Zine · Reviews

From sacred grounds do these dudes come. Yes, from the birth place of BLACK SABBATH and JUDAS PRIEST comes SCARRED SOCIETY. Calling Birmingham England home is about the only thing these guys have in common with the aforementioned bands. SCARRED SOCIETY plays straight up hardcore punk that borrows slightly from the world of metal but really can’t be considered a metal/punk band and certainly cannot be tagged with the “crossover” tag. They are too far entrenched in the punk rock camp for that tag to stick even though they do remind me of the EXPLOITED (with far more intelligent and thought out lyrics) at times. They abrasive punk rock assault might bring to mind a slightly less spastic TOXIC NARCOTIC or maybe even the PIST. Bill from TN is the fucking ‘A’ master of rhyming lyrics but this dude Paul from SCARED SOCIETY is no slacker! He gets in there and gets shit done. The anger and frustration with this whole fucking mess that we are all wrapped up in comes through as he spits out every single word. And I mean “spits”. He’s spitting mad! I bet he gets the mic all slimey and shit so that the bands after them at a gig are grossed out by it! LOL! I can just see the spit flying! The whole ordeal with the dude from NEUROSIS doing the Scion thing caused quite a stir. Most of us are very protective our culture and our scene and when we feel like someone only used our DIY culture as a stepping stone we take offense. The song ‘Corp-Core’ tackles the subject of using DIY as a spring board. Sure maybe you’ll sell a few more records and get your message out there (Isn’t that what those bands always say? They want to reach a wider audience…) but you’ll do so while selling your soul and turning your back on the very people that got you to where you are. We saw a lot of that in the 90’s didn’t we? Debt is the modern slavery designed for ensnaring the poor and debt collectors are a sick bi-product existing only to harass the common and man and degrade them. An interesting song topic that SCARRED SOCIETY dives into with the song ‘Chain of Debt’. The album cover is kind of EXPLOITEDish even with some punk zombies eating some poor fucker…Pretty cool…I like it, these guys pass the acid test. Check’ em out! (JoshMosh)

0 WE MUST DISMANTLE ALL THIS! Eomaia Scansoria 7”

  • May 29, 2012
  • by stinkbot
  • · PE Web Zine · Reviews

Finding this 7” in the mailbox was quite a nice surprise, since this is
the first I’ve heard of them after reviewing their CD What Remains  a few
issues back. It would seem that they’ve hit their stride with their own
style of epic crusty thrash laced up with haunting melodies. While this is
still intensely fierce, there is a cohesion that is most likely the result
of time and experience that sets this release ahead. The writing seems to
have matured a bit and Sunrise in Ashes is perfect example. The song kicks
off with short bursts of guitar paired with desperate howls of “This must
be stopped. All this must crumble.”, then a quick tap on the snare and the
entire band bursts in with blasting fury and dissonant chords, then
repeat, but with the next lyric. They manage to build up a tremendous
amount of anticipation in just a few short seconds that could have easily
been wasted had the structure not been set up perfectly. Each of the four
songs has been written much more thoughtfully this time around creating
the perfect atmosphere to deliver their demands to everyone to get our
shit together as a species so that we might slow the damage we’re doing to
the planet and subsequently each other. I almost want to call it
apocalyptic post-crust. Is that even a thing?  (Jake)

1 NEUROSIS INTERVIEW

  • May 27, 2012
  • by stinkbot
  • · Interviews · PE Web Zine

Neurosis interview  by Flox ( Fight For Your Mind ) Answers by Steve Von Till. Originally printed in Sedition Magazine France, reposted with permission.

PE: After 27 years Neurosis is releasing a new album in 2012. Can you let us know what to expect from this new comer ? Will it be the soundtrack to the end of the world ? 😉

Steve: Like every new work we embark on, it is the next step in our evolution, the next bend in our path. You can expect it to be honest, emotional, heavy, and beautiful. We are extremely proud and happy with the way the music has guided us. It explores some new sonic territory for us. Some of the ways we are approaching our heavy riffing is new and challenging, the keyboard sounds are really amazing and powerful and Jason is always blowing us away with his rhythms.

PE: Throughout the years Neurosis has evolved from an anarcho punk background going to a much more metallic post hardcore and experimental outlet. Have you found yourselves evolving alot through musical and life experiences that have made you trespass certain boundries to creat your own monster ?

Steve: To us, the freedom we discovered in our early days of what was called “punk” or independent DIY music back then meant there were no rules. We do what we want and what moves and inspires us. If you don’t like it, tough shit, you don’t have to listen to it then. This is completely self centered expression. We don’t cater to anyone’s expectations. We carry that initial inspiration with us always. We have never fit in a box or category and those names people try to give music are completely meaningless to us. We have outlasted most names, scenes, and categories and I am sure we will outlast all of the current terminology as well. We evolve as human beings expressing ourselves through music.

PE: Of course all of your records have a very deeply anchored philosophy and art! These two aspects of the band as well with live performances have made Neurosis a very unique combo and an influential band worldwide. How does all of this come together ? Where do you draw your inspiration from to make all of these aspects come together to make masterpieces ? Are you all pretty much perfectionnists ?

Steve: We are definitely not perfectionists. This music is very organic and comes from the soul. We don’t labor over it intellectually. There is no such thing as “perfect”. I think when people obsess on trying to reach perfection they often sterilize any real emotion and humanity right out of their art. Any ideas that may come from our brains are inherently less powerful than the natural flow that shines when we surrender to that driven force that exists both outside and within us. We record in a pure manner, live as a band straight to tape, no tricks, no bullshit. The philosophy is the philosophy of being emotional beings contemplating our existence. The artwork tries to give a visual backdrop for the emotional landscapes created by the music. It is hard to describe with words. That is why we use sound.

WAR//PLAGUE "On A Darker Dawn"

Profane Existence is proud to announce that we will be realeasing the new WAR//PLAGUE LP. Minneapolis punk veterans War//Plague return with their debut full length album “On A Darker Dawn”. This album brings forth over 2 years of socio/political rage and ferocity that is unleashed into a culmination of metallic fury. On a Darker Dawn is the bands defining pinnacle, both musically and lyrically. Coming from previous bands such as Provoked, Calloused and Pontius Pilate. These Minneapolis punks know their roots and the underbelly of the DIY movement has fueled them since day one. With the bands driving and aggressive guitars, barrage of brutal drum convergence, and vocal war cries, this album brings all their years of punk and rage into an apex of brutality. Due out Summer 2012. Stay tuned!
