    “Sermon for the Bootlickers”

Despite the inculcation of helplessness within each there remains great power. Ill at ease with such makes us ill. Learn to see the hand that feeds for what it is. You’ve been fooled if you think you’ve got no power. Refuse to be reduced to a consumer you’re a human being. Define yourself by more than wealth. Define yourself as a human. You don’t need what you’re being sold. Bend your knee to no authority but your own mind. You have the power to avoid the gilded trap. Avarice is what you’re conditioned for. Break the mold discover what’s really valuable to you.

    Living a domesticated existence
Starves people of meaning in their lives
Everyone feels the void beneath the surface
    Of everyday activities and routines

    Miserable, exploited, mass populations
Feeding the industrial systems endless hunger
    Treated like machines, living beings
Enslaved and kept passive in a technological noose

    We live in these cages
Made of concrete, glass, and steel
    A functioning human made hell
    Complete with natural scenery

    Yet there is no community
Deprived of connection with real people
    Technology perpetuates alienation
    But promises to connect us

And fill the void in our lives
In constant need of escape and distraction
    From this fucking ugly world
    Technology creeping into our lives

    Pop culture, pacifying shit
    Endless distractions to curb dissent
A society of lonely domesticated beings
Attempting social interaction behind a digital screen

Clinging to the feeling of connectedness
    Personalized profiles, mass communication tools
    Monitored and funded by pigs
    Spying on people, on movements
While corporations profit off government control
    Microsoft, apple, fedbook
    Endless lists of corporations
    Infiltrating our everyday lives
    The NSA, the CSE
Databases created from what you share
    Information for incrimination
Millions of people on terrorist watch lists
Technology’s a weapon used against us

Its function is to propel their ability
To efficiently exploit us and the natural world
While doing so capitalizing off selling us
Gadgets to distract us from the lives we live and hate

Turn off that shit, enter the real world
    You are not connected
You are alone staring into a fucking a screen

Get outside, meet with real people!
Even if we use these tools
    We must never forget

Technology is a system created by and for those in power
And it will only exist with
Division of labor, exploitation, and death

    Becoming connected through technology
    Is a sick fucking joke

In 1996 AUS-ROTTEN released their first LP “The System Works For Them” on an unsuspecting punk scene. It spread like wildfire in a pre internet era within a genre that mostly depended on tape trading.  (at least is was pre internet for us penniless punks) “The System Works For Them” was the perfect mix of anger and intelligence that the scene needed at the time (and still does today). It was like a wake up call that opened the eyes and ears to many punks the world over. The messages where crystal clear and most us were hooked as soon as the beginning shouts of “Boycott” bellowed over the speakers. I don’t believe any of us ever expected their message to resonate so well within the scene, but even more surprising is how the songs are just as relevant today as on they the day they were written. Which is why PROFANE EXISTENCE has decided to repress this record. We feel that that messages that AUS-ROTTEN brought to the table are to powerful to ignore. We feel that this LP is important and therefore should be highly available and priced affordably.

PROFANE EXISTENCE has worked out every last detail of this release with the members of AUS-ROTTEN whom have been involved from step one.  All tracks have been re-masted by Jay Matherson at the Jamroom studios. To be 100% honest we didn’t want to do a complete re-master of what we already considered a good recording. However when we opened the tracks on protools we noticed a few balance issues that required fixing. These fixes resulted in a tremendous upgrade to the overall quality of the tracks. We painstakingly scanned, puzzled, and photoshopped the original artwork to make sure that it was as close to authentic as it could possible be. We then went for broke by pressing in three different vinyl color combinations! Overall to say that we are pumped to release this would be an understatement, we are absolutely ecstatic to bring you this LP on PROFANE EXISTENCE!

To top this all off we worked with AUS-ROTTEN vocalist Dave Trenga on redrawing the classic “What Good Is Money, When There Is No One Left To Buy” design for a T-Shirt to concede with the albums release. This is a fresh take on an old image to create a new and original design.

    Silence-LP-Jacketpromo-withborder

Silence are a highly active post-punk/peace-punk band from Pittsburgh, PA. “The Deafening Sound of Absolutely Nothing” strives (and succeeds) to achieve the perfect balance between peace and post punk. By taking influences from The Mob, Bauhaus, Zounds, Killing Joke, Amebix, Crass, Conflict, Internal Autonomy and Joy Division SILENCE have created what can only be described a brilliant debut LP.  At one moment this record is dark, heavy, and atmospheric and then the next moment it makes you want to dance and sing along. Lyrically SILENCE are much closer to the anarcho side of the previously listed influences. Lyrics focus on a variety of topics but often have a strong focus on the way punk and activist communities deal with political struggle in our current political climate.

“The Deafening Sound of Absolutely Nothing” comes with a 16 page magazine size zine containing lyrics, personal writings and song explanations. Designed, printed and assembled by the band themselves in true D.I.Y. fashion.

LISTEN TO THE TRACK “WAR DRUMS” HERE.

    https://profanexistence.files.wordpress.com/2015/10/03-track-03-war-drums.wav

    Lyrics…

When all that remains is a world in flames. Is that when they’ll say the wars are finally won? That wars are finally done?

They’re beating on the drums again, they’re fueling up the planes. The congressmen fall into line and sing the old refrain. In the name of peace they’ll burn the land and drop a thousand bombs.

Meanwhile we’ll just stay at home and go back to our sitcoms. It’s the same old song, we’ve heard it before. They’re beating the drums and they’re calling for war. What it’s supposed to accomplish, no one is sure But the victims are always the hungry and the poor.

Once the drums of war begin it’s hard to make them stop. The noise silences the dissidents once the bombs begin to drop. All those who call for peace will be mocked and pushed aside. In 10 years they’ll admit we were right after many thousands more have died.

Finally after many delays from the pressing plant the WARWOUND Demo’s LP “A Huge Black Cloud” is out and copies are moving fast!

warwound-cover-Recorded in 1983, this record contains 15 songs from 3 sessions. With a few different takes you get a total of 25 blistering tracks. For those unfamiliar with WARWOUND, they are a UK band formed in 82. WARWOUND recorded 3 demos in 83 before disbanding and members went on to join THE VARUKERS and form SACRILEGE. These demos never received an official release… until now! Highly influenced by DISCHARGE, WARWOUND is one of the first bands ever to take D-Beat Punk to a raw and intense level. Recently reformed in 2015, original guitarist Damian is now joined by Ian Glasper on bass and Rat Varuker on vocals. After a few gigs in the UK word is spreading fast of the relentless onslaught of a live show these veterans put on. WARWOUND have also recently hit the studio to record for the first time in over 30 years. Needless to say WARWOUND is back with a vengeance!

12 Oh shit, where you been and what’s that buzzin under your bonnet?

  • October 15, 2013
  • by stinkbot
  • · Columns

Stinkbot     First off, how are you? It’s really been a while and I hope that everything is coming up roses for you and yours.

Just over a year ago I needed a break, and boy did I take one. I avoided all things Profane related and focused on my girlfriend, my son, school and work. Just before that point I’d had about a year of intense stress (all personal) and I was at the breaking point, so rather than let everything go to shit I took a sabatical and gave myself the time that I needed to recharge my internal battery. I think that it’s important to do that from time to time. Step away for a moment (or a year) and come back to what you love when you’re ready.

Now let’s get into it shall we? A couple of weeks ago I was hipped to the fact that Death in June was playing the Mezzanine in San Francisco. Not too shocking that the band is touring again, but I was annoyed at the fact that I people that I knew, and like were attending this bullshit. Now there are numerous debates on the internet about whether or not Death in June is a fascist/nazi band or not. I think the evidence is clear, that Pearce is a fascist sympathizer and an elitist xenophobe and members of Death in June have been involved in the National Front. The fact that DIJ uses fascist imagery is indisputable. Those arguing in his favor say its all shock, “the punks do it after all!”.

No. The early punks did it, for a little bit before it quickly (and rightly) became clear that using these particular images were not just annoying to those who fought in WWII, offensive and hurtful to people whose families were slaughtered, but using these images also drew in elements that truly held racist and fascist ideology and saw punk as a racist and fascist sub-culture and that punks could be coerced into joining the BNF or any of the Fascist goups in the U.S.

So though there was some use of fascist imagery in the beginning, there was a backlash from within the community. We stopped doing it and many punks started stating that they were anti-nazi, anti-fascist and anti-racist.

Death in June and Douglas Pearce in particular does not denounce the fascists who show up at his shows, not the “artists” like Boyd Rice, a self proclaimed nazi and total piece of shit and Tony Wakeford who was a member of the National Front, who have worked with Death in June, nor the boneheads (skinheads/nsm motherfuckers) who show up to DIJ shows. He won’t answer to his work for the Croation fascists during the conflict in Yugoslavia, and has pulled out of playing gigs upon discovering that they were anti fascist/racist.

Why is this important to me? I don’t listen to Death in June, Burzum, Skrewdriver, Rahowa or any of that shit so why is this important? Because punks, some of them people I consider my friends go to these shows. When I bring this up, I get simple excuses like “it’s all shock”, or they point out that Pearce was in Crisis and played some Rock Against Racism gigs. The worst excuses I heard were: “Pearce can’t be a facsist, he’s gay!” , or “I’ve met him, he’s very charming” and “When he’s in San Francisco he and his partner cruise the castro…” First, being gay does not mean you are immune from being an asshole. I know a lot of assholes who happen to be gay. Ernst Roehm, Hitler’s number 2 in the early days was also gay, and one hell of a fascist, hence an asshole!

See, the whole “since he’s queer he can’t be a fascist” argument don’t hold no water.

It’s time to get off the fence, you can’t waver about this sort of thing. If you go to the shows, buy the records and wear the gear, you are supporting fascism. In interviews he makes xenophobic statements about the poor and immigrants that he feared so much he fled his native england, claiming it had been soiled.”BRITAIN IMPORTED MILLIONS OF UNSKILLED LABOURERS FROM THE COLONIES FOR THAT KIND OF WORK AND LOOK WHAT A HUGE SUCCESS THAT WAS! THE HATRED IS BARELY RESTRAINED INTO THE OCCASSIONAL RIOT. I DON’T LIKE BEING IN A PLACE WITH SUCH AN ATMOSPHERE. EVEN GERMANY, THE FORMER RICHEST COUNTRY IN WESTERN EUROPA SEEMS TO BE TANGIBLY FALLING TO BITS. IT IS NO LONGER AS CLEAN AND AS WELL ORGANISED AS I REMEMBER FROM, SAY, 10 YEARS AGO. IT HAS BEEN FLOODED BY THOSE WHO WANT BUT, WITH LITTLE TO GIVE! THE WEST’S LIBERALISM WILL BE ITS DEATH.”– Douglas Pearce

Is this the kind of behavior you want to support?

I’m pissed because people don’t think that by buying a patch or a record that it’s making any difference. They want music not politics. Well, the two are combined. You can’t have one without the other and the money and support that you give these assholes go to support their causes, so while you may not want to support NSM or National Front groups, there is a good chance that you are giving them your money by buying records from New European Recordings, or DIJ in person. Certainly if you are getting their stuff online you are likely supporting a fascist or racist DIY label, because they do small labels and distros too. There is no excuse to supporting shit like this and so it has to stop. You have to make a choice, and if you choose to support bands and artists with sketchy politics, be ready to defend yourself. I’m calling on you to confront your friends when they do this shit. I’m calling on you to call out strangers when they do this. Don’t be afraid of the consequences because our silence is their greatest weapon.

Keep on truckin’

0 PRIMARY STRESS: DEMO 2013 CASSETTE: REVIEW

  • October 13, 2013
  • by PigBastard
  • · Reviews

a0274739299_2PRIMARY STRESS is a two member all girl band from Halifax Nova Scotia that play an aggressive form of blackened D-Beat.  The music starts with acoustic prelude before without warning being thrown into a blackened pit of D-Beat style distortion.  One womyn has harsh vocals that go well with the music, the other one reminds me a lot of when the drummer from GALLHAMMER tries to sing – not great.  Musically they play their instruments very well, and I like the heavy blackened D-Beat crust vibe that I get.  if I’d have to recommend one thing, teach the girl that doesnt sing too great that the high pitched singing should be on the way out.  Very good otherwise.
This demo is 4 songs in about 16 minutes with interesting poetic lyrics on an introspective bent.  One song, Corridor, has a great emotive opening riff, and then sings about finding a dead mangled and tortured dog in a trash bag in a Houston back alley.
These girls are avid supporters of Profane Existence, and apparently have an extensive collection of such said releases.  Demo tape limited to 100 copies, but is totally worth purchasing.  they spent some time on this, so donate a couple bucks for their efforts.

0 YATTAI: 50 LOVE HYMNS FOR GRINDHEADS: CD REVIEW

a2520432182_2This CD is a compilation of everything YATTAI have released from birth all the way up to but not including Fast Music Means Love.  That’s everything from the 2005 demo CD-R to 2010’s split with TREPAN DEAD.  This discography disc was due out Spring 2013 along with their latest effort afore-mentioned Fast Music…
The Discography moves backward in time, from most recent to earliest material, and all of the songs are fast, brutal, and employ liberal usage of the blast beat syndrome.  Although all the songs are decent within the grindcore genre, and most have a recognizable groove, I prefer the earliest recordings.  The early songs aren’t necessarily longer than the majority of the recent ones, but provide a looser more thrashy death metal style, as opposed to just playing as fast as they can and trying to rip the listeners face off with their grind.
YATTAI are very good at what they do, and any grind head will love their more than competent style.

stream of consciousness response: excellent production, I can hear everything, evn during the moments of hyper fast chaos.  Blast beats abound in every one of the abominations called songs.  Prevalent dual vocals in traditional grind style: cookie monster meets a chicken being raped.
This CD is 16 songs within about as many minutes, and is officially released as a one sided LP.  This music is absolutely punishing to the ears, and while its done very well, to be honest I’m glad it isn’t much longer.  The technical prowess on this is amazing, the music doesn’t sound rushed, but rather likes it’s a 33rpm record being played at 45rpm.  This is grindcore true to form, and stands above others within the genre.

0 DOGMA: DEMO CD-R: REVIEW

a1659320168_2Northwest Indiana band DOGMA is total straight up meat n potatoes Midwest hardcore, and this demo CD-R is proof of that fact.  Five shredding songs in just as many minutes, this hardcore is a full on assault of the senses.  No fluff and no filler, DOGMA is pure heavy hardcore.  No little kids singing in their mom’s garage, this guy sounds like he weighs 300 lbs and is 6’6” tall!  The intro is chaotic in an impressive way, and after about 40 secs, drops into the pummeling hardcore that this band provides., and never lets up again until the beast is dead.  At times I hear AGNOSTIC FRONT but with a heavier sound and production, courtesy of Eddie Cantu from Joliet Illinois.  DOGMA started in 2012 with 3 guys who had been playing in other bands together for a while.  Good lyrics, included in fold – out poster sheet. Artwork done by the band’s drummer.  This CD is highly recommended, but put the disc on repeat so you don’t miss any of the details in the short 5.5 minutes that this monster plays.  Looking forward to a full length, or perhaps a vinyl 7”!

0 PROXY: S/T CASSETTE: REVIEW

Featuring members of INEPSY and TRUNCHEONS, PROXY is a group of musicians from Montreal Canada who work hard to produce what they do.  More in the vein of INEPSY, the songs are catchy and decent if you want something upbeat.  This is street punk influenced rock n roll, akin to late UK SUBS.  This is recommended for those who like whisky drenched working class oi style rock n roll.  Dual guitars both cleanly heard, the production is crisp, nothing muddy at all.  Lyrics talk about being in the drunk tank downtown, getting beat up by cops, and general rowdy mischief.  Nine songs in about a half hour.

0 BATTLESCARD: MOTORCHARGE DEMO AND SPEED CHAOS CASSETTE: REVIEW

battlescard copy OutsidebATTLE

BATTLESCARD is a thrash punk band from Yokohama city, Japan.  This three piece didn’t include lyrics in the booklets, but it’s pretty clear that they are singing in English.  Plenty of pix in both booklets. Demo self released? Cassette EP released on Black Konflik.

MOTORCHARGE
Motorcharge is their apparently self – released demo and has 5 songs of thrashy punk rock directly influenced by early bands MOTORHEAD and DISCHARGE.  Side Motor has three songs of roughly the same speed same style thrash.  Side Charge starts off with a slower longer song that has a hoppin lead riff, it maybe a joke song.  Skull Smash returns to form and finishes the demo on a good note.

SPEED CHAOS
The first thing I notice about this professionally released tape is that the band has managed to make their sound faster, more complex, and more aggressive.  All band members are credited with vocals, and the guitar shows more prowess than on the demo, with complex solos (title song, & Yokohama City is Burning) / riffs.  Bass is loud and clear, and drives the music for Yokohama City… which is by far the most catchy song on the tape.  Still no lyric sheet, but the words come through pretty clear.  Much better production than on the demo too.
for fans of DEATHSIDE and BASTARD

1 Q FOR TREASON ZINE: CANOEING TO GHOST TOWNS IN YUKON REVIEW

SORRY FOR LACK OF PHOTO

This zine is about a group of people that canoed through some of the most remote area in Canada, and then drove up to a town above the arctic circle, before finally driving all the way home.  Their journey started in Vancouver, from whence they drove up to Whitehorse, the capitol city of Yukon with a meager population of 23, 280.  From Whitehorse, they conoed on the Yukon river for about two weeks before coming ashore at Dawson (popular during a gold rush, the town now has little more than 1,300 citizens).  Along the way between the two towns they saw some amazing ghost towns, ranging in size from miniscule camps to organized settlements that would have housed around 300 people.  Some have been vacant for a long time, others have been converted into camp grounds for tourists.  After coming ashore in Dawson, the group dried off and drove in a little car 800 some miles on a loose gravel road to one of Canada’s northernmost towns, Inuvik, at the mouth of the MacKenzie river.  Just getting there was an adventure in itself, and once there, the whole town / culture was different in ways that they would have never imagined. Inuvik is approximately 200 km north of the arctic circle, and has a population of 3, 500, about 3 times bigger than Dawson.
This zine is about 35 pages long, and well done with lots of photos and maps.

1 ALB(A)TWITCH: ONLY DEAD BIRDS SING OVER THE GRAVES OF FALLEN KINGS CD REVIEW

Albatwitch-Only-Dead-Birds-150x150The ALBATWITCH were a mythical group of 4 foot tall ape–men that were hunted nearly to extinction in the early 1800s and lived in the hills and rivers of southeast Pennsylvania.  It is from these stories that the band gets their name. Full color booklet includes credits and lyrics as well as lots of artwork and a vinyl sticker (while supplies last).  Officially released September 2013, CD package seems to be made of recycled cardboard.
This band is unlike anything I have ever heard before.  The two member band that is ALB(A)TWITCH successfully mix dark folk, black noise, and crusty black metal together to create a sonic mass few have heard before.  Members come from other York PA bands such as STONE BREATH, LAYR, and CROW TONGUE, among others.  The band take influence from the other projects they are in and produce something beyond easy description.  Some songs are deeply rooted in a WITTR style of black metal, others are American folk based, while still others are harsh walls of machine made noise.  Lyrics are very anarcho – punk in style although not musically, other subjects deal amongst the timelessness of astral reality.  Apart from the metal based songs, the primary drums used are the dumbek and the Bodh ran, both of which are hand played drums.  Other traditional instruments consist of banjo, celtic harp, lobow, and stick dulcimer, amidst new technology such as oscillators and a harmonium.
The CD opens with an acoustic chamber style tune, devolves into industrial machine noise & distortion, then progresses into non-conventional black metal.  I say non – conventional because the vocals and guitar are drenched in reverb beyond clarity, industrial elements persist throughout, and the drums are slower than usual for the style.  The entire album rotates amidst these styles for 60 + minutes, although the styles start to weld together by the last 3rd of this cd and become a sludgy mixture which is still great.  By the time this album is over, it feels like the collapse of western civilization has commenced and we are naught but survivors in a strange new world.  We have survived because we have the integrity required to live through the heat and the cold and the intelligence to stave off the predators for another night.  All acoustic songs are performed to remind the listener that revolutionary music existed before electricity and modern technology, and will persist after the industrial collapse.
ALB(A)TWITCH is neither for the scene purist, nor the faint of heart.  Aided by the lyrics, the songs make one think, and that is exactly what this band wants people to do.  When listening to this album, one will be rewarded only if they bring an open mind.

0 Kerry King and Punk Rock Gangs…

JOSH-HEADER

We grew up far from LA but when we were younger and had our “crew” many, including the local police, considered us a gang.  Sometimes we might have even operated as one in just how we stuck together.  We didn’t parlay in any illegal enterprise per se, we just kind of did what we wanted and were tight.  We stood up for one another and to many that meant we were a gang…

A few years back we were on tour and were kicking it over at Rito from SMD’s pad and I was reading an issue of Razorcake that covered this very topic.  The Suicidals, the TSOL crew and the Circle One gang.  Basically they were all hoodlums looking for the next adventure but often times it got violent and punks fought punks.  On this particular evening Mike from Circle One happened to be in the room and he was giving us some knowledge as he expanded on the stories I was reading.  He confirmed what I had always heard…TSOL were the baddest mofos on the scene, they were the ones to avoid for fear of getting your head kicked in or at least getting your ass robbed.

Years ago I had a chance to interview Mike Roche from TSOL and I asked him a bit about their legacy as a gang.  From his perspective they were just a bunch dudes that hung together, like my “crew” as described above, and didn’t really consider themselves a gang.  They were petty thieves and hoodlums, there was nothing organized about they were doing.  There certainly wasn’t any criminal enterprise other than some burglaries here and there to score beer and drug money alongside some basic vandalism.

The Decline of Western Civilization’ was on the TV and watching it with someone who was part of the scene at the time was an unreal experience.  Circle One Mike narrated the entire movie like it was our own personal directors cut version or something.  He corrected the names of venues, pointed dudes in the crowd out and explained that as much as the movie claims to be set in LA the real scene was in Orange County, LA was full of “art-punk” and the hardcore kids were all from the burbs…OC.  With that much of the movie actually filmed in OC.

Kerry King from SLAYER seems like the type of dude that owns some assault weapons.  I’m not getting into a gun debate here, just simply stating that I bet he owns some.   He always wears military styled boots and those camo man-pris.  I mean isn’t that just enough right there to draw the logical conclusion that he owns some semi-automatic weapons if not the fully automatic kind even?  Of course it is!

Jack Grisham as the singer for TSOL was probably the gang leader I reckon.  If a dude sings in a band and is in a gang he is the gang leader I also reckon.  Isn’t the singer always the gang leader?  Of course he is!

If you’re all hanging in SoCal, the greater LA area to be exact,  it’s likely you might have crossed paths. Especially if your bitchen’ metal band covered some bitchen’ punk tunes by the other guys band.  And if your son is some sort of wanna’ be gang banger dude and he crosses paths with the toughest motherfuckers in the punk-gang circuit it’s likely he might get his ass handed to him by the lead singer / gang leader.  And if it goes too far your son might just become another gangland statistic.  That’s means your offspring is dead and Jack Grisham killed him.  Since you are Kerry King the next logical move is bust out some of that artillery you have and fill that punk-goth weirdo full of fucken’ lead.  Time to light his ass up with a full clip from your AR-15!!!  Die fucker!!!!

It seemed so real…So plausible…I even woke up thought about the events as they were understood and went back to sleep to explore this crazy ass story further.

The story that unfolded told the sordid tale of LA punk gangs crossing paths with pseudo Satanic metal dudes and their families.  As it unfolded it became clear that Kerry King’s son was fucking around in some shit he had no business fucking around in.  He thought he was quite the bad ass until Jack Grisham capped his ass and put an end to his fucking around.  Kerry King was not going to let the death of his son go un-avenged so he grabbed some firearms, some banana clips, hunted that cold blooded killer down and lit him up like a fucking Christmas tree!  “Take that punk!!! “  Yes, Kerry King killed Jack Grisham in a gangland shootout.  Jack’s 9mm was no match for Kerry’s full on Satanic assault.

Now what the hell is that dream supposed to mean?  Whew!  I have some fucked up dreams…

Notes:

  1.  The ROAC record is almost done.  We went back in to record one more song a couple of weeks ago.  We got some sick as fuck cover art and a new logo.  We are in business!
  2. There has been an unusually high number of “punx” in the Denver area drinking Coors.  This is unacceptable.  Coors has ties back to the Ku Klux Klan and still to this day gives money to groups like Focus on the Family and other right wing groups.  You vote with your dollar!!!!  Punx have no business giving businesses like this their business.  FUCK!  Stand for something!
