Making Punk A Threat Again!

  • The long awaited debut LP from NYC’s FLOWER “Hardly A Dream” is finally set to arrive.

FLOWER’s tedious approach to writing/creating/drawing their debut LP was carefully thought out and the result is a monumental anarcho punk /crust record.

“Hardly A Dream” Takes us on a bleak journey through the dark side of society. As soon as you drop the needle a dark atmosphere is immediately created with a slow intro featuring arpeggio guitar work that builds into pummeling d-beat crust. The albums vocals then leave you with a feeling of being crushed by the ever-present weight of living through our modern world of late stage capitalism that was built on the falsehoods of the so called American dream, religious hypocrisy’s, nationalism, and the greed of humankind.

FLOWER take many cues from predecessors and are most often (and rightfully so) compared to NAUSEA but they also take a heavy influence from ANTISECT, SACRILEGE & other greats. The artwork has a very RUDIMENTARY PENI feel and the record comes with an amazing 24.5 X 34.75 CRASS style poster jacket. All art work was meticulously hand drawn and overseen by the guitarist Willow in true DIY style and spirit. Willow was also cool enough to draw up a special shirt for the record release featuring an alternative PROFANE EXISTENCE backprint!

  • Finally, the third LP from AGNOSY has arrived!

    AGNOSY-cover

Dark, heavy, galloping crust from the streets of London. AGNOSY is back to present us with a ferocious beast of an album that can only be forged by the anger and frustration of living in today’s world. “When Daylight Reveals The Torture” aggressively attacks evils such the current rise of fascism and animal abuse. It intelligently and passionately touches on the Afrin invasion and the revolution in Rojava and shows nothing but utter disgust toward the arrogance of humankind’s lust for greed and power that will inevitably lead us down paths of war and environmental devastation.

AGNOSY – Live at SCUMFEST in London. 2011

While lyrically AGNOSY are much more politicly straight forward this time around than on previous releases, musically they have expanded on their sound to create a dark and moody atmosphere while at the same time staying crust as fuck. To say they know what they are doing would be an understatement from this band of vets whose members have played in HIATUS, HEALTH HAZARD, and BEGINNING OF THE END.

Long galloping intros are followed up by traditional d-beat, fierce solo’s are then meet with vicious vocals and pulverizing bass in a brilliant recording captured by Lewis Johns at The Ranch Production House and was mastered by Brad Boatright at Portland’s legendary Audiosiege. We then pressed on deluxe heavyweight 150-gram vinyl,  printed on reverse board jackets, and included an 11in x 22in gatefold insert to bring you a high quality and truly epic record.

Review by Craig Hayes from “Your Last Rites”…
    Swordwielder – System Overlord
Heavyweight punk fanatics take note: System Overlord is a fucking triumph. The long-awaited sophomore album from Gothenburg stenchcore band Swordwielder is a brooding behemoth, constructed from the filthiest and heftiest strains of punk and metal. System Overlord shimmers with apocalyptic visions, and it’s overflowing with all the grim atmospherics and intimidating intensity that defines consummate crushing crust.

Too much hype? No way… And no apologies, either. Swordwielder deal in definitive stenchcore on System Overlord, and much like their full-length debut, 2013’s Grim Visions of Battle, the band’s latest release is a knockout. Swordwielder’s harsh, gruff and dark sound owes a significant debt to old school icons like Amebix, Axegrinder, Deviated Instinct, and Antisect, and they mix and mangle their influences and leave ’em to rot on the battlefield.

Plenty of hammering rage drives System Overlord tracks like “Violent Revolution,” “Savage Execution” and “Cyborgs,” and thundering epics like “Corrupt Future” and “Northern Lights” exhibit subtler strengths, mixing guttural growls and clean vocals with crashing percussion and dirge-laden riffs. Connoisseurs of corpse-dragging crust will love the brute-force belligerence of “Absolute Fear,” “Nuclear Winter,” and “Second Attack,” which rain down like merciless mortar barrages. As a rule, all of System Overlord‘s mammoth tracks chug and churn with grinding muscle, while reeking of squalor and decay.

Swordwielder exudes tightly coiled aggression from start to finish here—songs rise from the ashes of desolation, and resounding calls for action and resistance ring loud. If you’re a fan of heavy-hitters like Fatum, War//Plague, Carnage, Zygome, Cancer Spreading or (insert your favorite hefty crust crew here), System Overlord‘s trampling tempo and strapping sound are bound to appeal.

0 Bobby Joe Ebola Songbook-REVIEW

Upon receiving this book, in all honesty, I had not a clue who this band was. I also had never read a Songbook from a band, nor did I know they even existed to this extent. The book, as a whole, was quirky, amusing, and at times I found myself thinking “Did I read that correctly?”. How anyone could come up with some of the concepts featured in their songs, nonetheless some of the wording that was used, was both intriguing and mind-boggling all at once. What I enjoyed most about this songbook was that it wasn’t just a songbook. It went well beyond lyrics and/or how to (kind of) play some of the songs. The Bobby Joe Ebola Songbook dedicates a decent amount of book space to member history, introductions to each separate grouping of songs per chapter, and occasionally a Pop-Quiz related to knowledge about the bands releases as well as their history as a band in general. I really enjoyed reading this songbook mostly because it was something I wasn’t used to reading. I had gained an opportunity to read something out of my element and I’d consider it a success. From what I have gathered, Dan Abbott and Corbett Redford have experienced some serious shit and used their experiences to create what is Bobby Joe Ebola and the Children Macnuggits. If you enjoy twisted and quirky poetry/songwriting, this book is definitely up your alley. (XurkelX)

touch_my_rash

A three piece pop band with a pretty terrible name but the songs are very poppy and catchy at that in there letter they compared themselves to MASKED INTRUDER and that isn’t a correct match at all I’d say more like THE GATEWAY DISTRICT.  All the songs basically have the same drum beat and female/male fronted vocals.  If you like your pop punk generic and trying to sound like other bands then this is for you. I don’t like to be negative about bands because at least they’re trying so follow the links and form your own opinion. (XbezerkerX)

46483_465723973478639_1045690113_nFirst thing you’ll notice is the cover art work of this album look like a knock off  well it sort of is. Ramones-AcidEater is a classic cover so you can only guess what they try and make there songs sound like. DUMBS are a punk rock band from Poland and mainly perform there.  Here on this full length you get 15 tracks of pure snotty RAMONECORE jams but not nearly as good as the RAMONES.  But they do say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.  There really isn’t much to say but sounds like a less better version of the RAMONES.  If this interests you follow the link and check them out. relic46Black metal from Philadelphia is that possible?  Well here it is after two demo releases Gilead Media Releases a full length of theirs on vinyl and about time.  Here you have 6 amazing tracks the titles go in numerical order so no fancy names to there songs just straight and simple black metal.  With dark and deep vocals over some amazing guitar riffs this is one to listen to each song brings something a little different to the table. To those lucky people who have a hard copy of there original demo recording hold on to them this will be a good add on to your collection.  Plus everything sounds better on vinyl correct? Again follow the links too buy and listen to this release. I’d say BUY… (XbezerkerX)

Here is a brand new release on ALTERNATIVE TENTACLES. With them putting this album out your thinking man this will be awesome Jello doesn’t put out crap records correct?  Well for the most part you’re right.  Very low-fi gritty fast spaztastic punk rock on this record.  Sometimes you will wish the recording wasn’t so shitty ut that adds to the record.  At first when this arrived and I read the sticker on the cover I got super excited. “In 1965, this former Motown backing band was left for dead in the swamps of Baton Rouge”. With that being on the cover I thought it would be some sweet ass soul/blues type music. But nope I was sadly surprised. There is a total of 13 songs 10 of them which are there own and 2 covers. “Nervous Breakdown” and  “Bad Man”.  Other then that this is something I could see a smaller record label putting out, but hey if a bigger DIY label wants to do hell yea. Plus check out this creepy cover looks like something out of Donnie Darko. Check it out for yourself (XbezerkerX)

Well here is a new release from ASAIN MAN RECORDS featuring the two members of the BIRTHDAY SUITS, Paddy from DILLINGER 4 and ASIAN MAN himself MIKE PARK.  Here we have 8 tracks of spastic and harsh punk kind of like a garage sort of punk. Each song barely a minute long except one which is exactly a minute long other then that what can I really say about this power house group all individually are good at there own bands.  Maybe this was just a little fun random thing to do but they should stick to what they know best and that is there original bands.  Not a band collectible record just to own if there is nothing else to buy at the record store or online. PARTIAC_20ARREST2_sm_large

Thrash for all you thrashers. This 3 piece thrash band hail from Indy and play……wait for it……thrash metal.  Not an all around band cassette tape again by REALITY IS A CULT, this label just keeps putting out little gems one at a time.  This cassette has a total of 8 song, in the vein of IN DEFENCE with there party and humorous lyrical content.  I’ve had the advantage of booking these guys when they came to Minneapolis the second time and there live show isn’t half bad, so I recommend checking this cassette out and if they are coming to your town make sure to check them out. Fart noises into a microphone=epic, and singing about a Big Mac is sweet. Also follow the links to listen and download this cassette.  One final thought PIZZAFACE.  (XbezerkerX)
