Making Punk A Threat Again!

  • The long awaited debut LP from NYC’s FLOWER “Hardly A Dream” is finally set to arrive.

FLOWER’s tedious approach to writing/creating/drawing their debut LP was carefully thought out and the result is a monumental anarcho punk /crust record.

“Hardly A Dream” Takes us on a bleak journey through the dark side of society. As soon as you drop the needle a dark atmosphere is immediately created with a slow intro featuring arpeggio guitar work that builds into pummeling d-beat crust. The albums vocals then leave you with a feeling of being crushed by the ever-present weight of living through our modern world of late stage capitalism that was built on the falsehoods of the so called American dream, religious hypocrisy’s, nationalism, and the greed of humankind.

FLOWER take many cues from predecessors and are most often (and rightfully so) compared to NAUSEA but they also take a heavy influence from ANTISECT, SACRILEGE & other greats. The artwork has a very RUDIMENTARY PENI feel and the record comes with an amazing 24.5 X 34.75 CRASS style poster jacket. All art work was meticulously hand drawn and overseen by the guitarist Willow in true DIY style and spirit. Willow was also cool enough to draw up a special shirt for the record release featuring an alternative PROFANE EXISTENCE backprint!

  • Finally, the third LP from AGNOSY has arrived!

    AGNOSY-cover

Dark, heavy, galloping crust from the streets of London. AGNOSY is back to present us with a ferocious beast of an album that can only be forged by the anger and frustration of living in today’s world. “When Daylight Reveals The Torture” aggressively attacks evils such the current rise of fascism and animal abuse. It intelligently and passionately touches on the Afrin invasion and the revolution in Rojava and shows nothing but utter disgust toward the arrogance of humankind’s lust for greed and power that will inevitably lead us down paths of war and environmental devastation.

AGNOSY – Live at SCUMFEST in London. 2011

While lyrically AGNOSY are much more politicly straight forward this time around than on previous releases, musically they have expanded on their sound to create a dark and moody atmosphere while at the same time staying crust as fuck. To say they know what they are doing would be an understatement from this band of vets whose members have played in HIATUS, HEALTH HAZARD, and BEGINNING OF THE END.

Long galloping intros are followed up by traditional d-beat, fierce solo’s are then meet with vicious vocals and pulverizing bass in a brilliant recording captured by Lewis Johns at The Ranch Production House and was mastered by Brad Boatright at Portland’s legendary Audiosiege. We then pressed on deluxe heavyweight 150-gram vinyl,  printed on reverse board jackets, and included an 11in x 22in gatefold insert to bring you a high quality and truly epic record.

Review by Craig Hayes from “Your Last Rites”…
    Swordwielder – System Overlord
Heavyweight punk fanatics take note: System Overlord is a fucking triumph. The long-awaited sophomore album from Gothenburg stenchcore band Swordwielder is a brooding behemoth, constructed from the filthiest and heftiest strains of punk and metal. System Overlord shimmers with apocalyptic visions, and it’s overflowing with all the grim atmospherics and intimidating intensity that defines consummate crushing crust.

Too much hype? No way… And no apologies, either. Swordwielder deal in definitive stenchcore on System Overlord, and much like their full-length debut, 2013’s Grim Visions of Battle, the band’s latest release is a knockout. Swordwielder’s harsh, gruff and dark sound owes a significant debt to old school icons like Amebix, Axegrinder, Deviated Instinct, and Antisect, and they mix and mangle their influences and leave ’em to rot on the battlefield.

Plenty of hammering rage drives System Overlord tracks like “Violent Revolution,” “Savage Execution” and “Cyborgs,” and thundering epics like “Corrupt Future” and “Northern Lights” exhibit subtler strengths, mixing guttural growls and clean vocals with crashing percussion and dirge-laden riffs. Connoisseurs of corpse-dragging crust will love the brute-force belligerence of “Absolute Fear,” “Nuclear Winter,” and “Second Attack,” which rain down like merciless mortar barrages. As a rule, all of System Overlord‘s mammoth tracks chug and churn with grinding muscle, while reeking of squalor and decay.

Swordwielder exudes tightly coiled aggression from start to finish here—songs rise from the ashes of desolation, and resounding calls for action and resistance ring loud. If you’re a fan of heavy-hitters like Fatum, War//Plague, Carnage, Zygome, Cancer Spreading or (insert your favorite hefty crust crew here), System Overlord‘s trampling tempo and strapping sound are bound to appeal.

Another nice slab of wax per REALITY IS A CULT this 7 inch is a little slice of heaven in a 7 inch sleeve.  PARASITIC TWINS hail from Indy playing fast and catchy punk/hardcore, more on the punk side of things very catchy guitar and vocals on “Greedy Mitts” “Lily White” is another amazing track with powerful vocals and screeching guitar. Time to flip this over to the B-Side.  The B-side offers up two more tracks with tuning the guitar as the intro to “Blowhard” is kind of weird but artists are weird right?  But the lyrics are on point for this song a sarcastic snotty anthem to how most of us really feel.  It appears that each side was recorded 5 months apart from each other and with that the B-Side sounds like a better recording to me but that’s my opinion check out this release for yourself.  Plus I got a free mini zine with this release maybe if you order one you might be as lucky as I was. no-statik-prank122-194Two incredible new jams from NO STATIK here, first you have “No Hospice” A nice guitar and drum intro leads into very aggressive vocals. I’m always a fan of a female fronted hardcore/punk band. The lyrics of this song are very hauntingly true to everyone and how they feel entitled to everything they want because they think they deserve it. Really there are few people who actually get what they deserve.  The B-Side to this album is titled “Clean Swift Sunshine” very well put together raw and angry track, with pounding drums and fast guitar this little slice of heaven on wax is a must own for any fan of this band or any fan of good music. Check it out, also if you’re lucky you’ll get it on gold wax. (XbezerkerX)

grave065_nb_btdis2

A brand new release for New Jerseys’ NIGHT BIRDS. If you haven’t heard of this band yet, then you my friend are missing out.  You might say that there is a surf resurgence coming back if more bands could play as well as these guys. The first track is a nice instrumental surf song that sets the pace for the entire album.  “Born To Die In Suburbia” is the title track off this record and it is a nice gem of a song spastic guitar and vocals makes you think of what punk rock should still be and sound like. Personally my favorite track is “Maimed For The Masses” being a huge wrestling fan and this track is dedicated to the hardcore legend Mick Foley.  Fast and catchy vocals and loud guitar and drumming on this track makes this amazing.  Plus all lyrics about his real life in the wrestling ring is awesome. GRAVE MISTAKE RECORDS put this out and I suggest you go support this label.  I wrote in a blog I used to do that this label cannot put out a bad record and that still stands in my opinion. 943095_600692713275575_1470596277_nHailing from St. Paul Minnesota comes a 5 piece punk rock and roll band.  If there was one band to define the term Punk Rock & Roll here is the band. All sporting there jean jackets with there love for TURBONEGRO.  This cd kicks off with “Darkness Forever” and rocks all the way through to “Heavy Set Girls”.  The guitar intro to “Night of the GSD” reminds me a lot of BLUDWULF and a lot of the other guitar riffs remind me of them as well. “Vault 23” is a good through back to the spirit of Rock & Roll of the 80’s with its catchy lyrics and amazing bass riffs. If you like the guitar riffs of MOTORHEAD then “Hell Ride” is the song for you.  Personally knowing most of this band, they are a very hard working band and supportive of there scene by playing countless shows and very different venues around the Minneapolis/St. Paul area (including The Triple Rock Social Club, The 7th St. Entry, Memory Lanes, Station 4, The Fine Line, Memory Lanes and countless House and DIY spots) This gets the Bezerker stamp of approval PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE check this band out. a1444240461_10Here is another cassette release from REALITY IS A CULT. The more I get from this label the happier I become.  Falter are a very fast hardcore band from Milwaukee Wisconsin.  Here is there 6 song demo, very lo-fi and heavy.  Guitars are smashing along with the drums very angry vocals on top of all that.  All in all not a bad demo very excited to hear more from these guys.(XbezerkerX)

a0224238639_2Damn the band is called STABLER who else watches Law and Order SVU like I do?  Maybe these guys?  STABLER hail from Louisville Kentucky and play a really fast clean form of powerviolence  and hardcore.  Most of the songs are less then a minute long and this will keep you raging for the entire 8 minutes a total of  10 tracks on different colored cassettes, think WEEKEND NACHOS but more understandable lyrically. You can go download this on REALITY IS A CULT bandcamp page for FREE but throw in some money to support an amazing DIY label.  Also check out there website for more awesome releases. (XbezerkerX)

WOW holy shit this starts off super fast with “Can’t Be Stopped” and doesn’t slow down through the whole entire record, until you have to flip it over to the B-Side of course.  I had no clue who this band was until I looked them up and found out I own there first seven inch.  So I was happy now that I knew off these guys since there first seven ripped I was excited for this.  They do not disappoint at all. Angry and fast from beginning to end.  Think fast hardcore like early IN DEFENCE not there new shit but old shit or DIOS MIO.  If that wasn’t enough to convince the last track on  this record is a  VOID cover “Who Are You” so follow the link to their bandcamp and follow the link to go buy this.  YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED! 1324536281_Social_LogoAnytime I find out a band is from Mankato MN I automatically think LIBIDO BOYZ every single time but damn I’m super off on that for BEAUTIFUL CORPSE.  Here we have a 3 piece female fronted punk band in the vein of MISFITS, THE CRAMPS  and THE DAMNED.  Very catchy and poppy music with the whole horror punk lyrics working for them. Here we have 4 tracks of what reminds me of THE HORRORPOPS with out the Psychobilly guitar riffs, plus they have a female GO-GO Dancer on the stage when they perform which is always nice to look at. Also they keyboard parts in the songs are really cool as well. Other then that I really don’t have much left to say. Go to there website and give it a listen and viewing . (XbezerkerX)

0 Norah Noizzze & Band-Songs We Can Sell CD Review

a2134259865_2Well all the way from Vienna, Austria we have this electronic punk band.  The band consists of 3 queer persons/feminists.  So with all that said I was pretty excited to listen to this and not to be negative the concept of a 3 piece queer/feminist band is awesome but not in an electronic punk band that basically has keyboard/synth drums and guitar.  I was more expecting EPOXIES style music with the pop punk over lay to it but with the first track over 4 minutes long with the same hook repeating a bunch over and over and over, keep it short and to the point not overplayed. Next is a creepy dark song called “MASTERbates Motel” which you know what it references which again is to long of a song for me to stay interested in it. Most of these songs are close to the 4 minute mark of repetitive lyrics and keyboards. The cover looks cool and it comes in a paper sleeve better I think then a jewel case. I do suggest you go check this out and make your own opinion. Follow the bandcamp link.  (XbezerkerX)

a1326143979_2When I say Norway what do you think of? Black metal is what I always think of but BARRENWOMB are from Norway and aren’t Black Metal at all here you have a 2 piece drums and strings band that play very fast and artsy music with there first track “Visual AIDS”, you have a really cool instrumental intro into fast vocals and guitar followed at the end by the same instrumental kind of reminds me of the beginning music in A Clockwork Orange. There second track “Deal or No Krokodil” is a fast a spastic jam only lasting a little over a minute but is equally as good as the first.  REMOTE is a one man noise band from France there only track on this album is “Plaques of Rats” which is and 8 and half minute long guitar solo with drums finally hitting in a little over a third of the way through the song then at the halfway mark the vocals kick in and where has these angry and timid lyrics been the first half is my question.  Very angry vocals go along with the very heavy guitar and drums. All in all the REMOTE track is very heavy and well put together.  And yes you read the header right this is an 8 inch record not a 7 inch bigger is better and fits more on it. Go to their bandcamps and listen to there sides of this split you wont regret it. (XbezerkerX)
