Making Punk A Threat Again!

  • The long awaited debut LP from NYC’s FLOWER “Hardly A Dream” is finally set to arrive.

FLOWER’s tedious approach to writing/creating/drawing their debut LP was carefully thought out and the result is a monumental anarcho punk /crust record.

“Hardly A Dream” Takes us on a bleak journey through the dark side of society. As soon as you drop the needle a dark atmosphere is immediately created with a slow intro featuring arpeggio guitar work that builds into pummeling d-beat crust. The albums vocals then leave you with a feeling of being crushed by the ever-present weight of living through our modern world of late stage capitalism that was built on the falsehoods of the so called American dream, religious hypocrisy’s, nationalism, and the greed of humankind.

FLOWER take many cues from predecessors and are most often (and rightfully so) compared to NAUSEA but they also take a heavy influence from ANTISECT, SACRILEGE & other greats. The artwork has a very RUDIMENTARY PENI feel and the record comes with an amazing 24.5 X 34.75 CRASS style poster jacket. All art work was meticulously hand drawn and overseen by the guitarist Willow in true DIY style and spirit. Willow was also cool enough to draw up a special shirt for the record release featuring an alternative PROFANE EXISTENCE backprint!

  • Finally, the third LP from AGNOSY has arrived!

    AGNOSY-cover

Dark, heavy, galloping crust from the streets of London. AGNOSY is back to present us with a ferocious beast of an album that can only be forged by the anger and frustration of living in today’s world. “When Daylight Reveals The Torture” aggressively attacks evils such the current rise of fascism and animal abuse. It intelligently and passionately touches on the Afrin invasion and the revolution in Rojava and shows nothing but utter disgust toward the arrogance of humankind’s lust for greed and power that will inevitably lead us down paths of war and environmental devastation.

AGNOSY – Live at SCUMFEST in London. 2011

While lyrically AGNOSY are much more politicly straight forward this time around than on previous releases, musically they have expanded on their sound to create a dark and moody atmosphere while at the same time staying crust as fuck. To say they know what they are doing would be an understatement from this band of vets whose members have played in HIATUS, HEALTH HAZARD, and BEGINNING OF THE END.

Long galloping intros are followed up by traditional d-beat, fierce solo’s are then meet with vicious vocals and pulverizing bass in a brilliant recording captured by Lewis Johns at The Ranch Production House and was mastered by Brad Boatright at Portland’s legendary Audiosiege. We then pressed on deluxe heavyweight 150-gram vinyl,  printed on reverse board jackets, and included an 11in x 22in gatefold insert to bring you a high quality and truly epic record.

Review by Craig Hayes from “Your Last Rites”…
    Swordwielder – System Overlord
Heavyweight punk fanatics take note: System Overlord is a fucking triumph. The long-awaited sophomore album from Gothenburg stenchcore band Swordwielder is a brooding behemoth, constructed from the filthiest and heftiest strains of punk and metal. System Overlord shimmers with apocalyptic visions, and it’s overflowing with all the grim atmospherics and intimidating intensity that defines consummate crushing crust.

Too much hype? No way… And no apologies, either. Swordwielder deal in definitive stenchcore on System Overlord, and much like their full-length debut, 2013’s Grim Visions of Battle, the band’s latest release is a knockout. Swordwielder’s harsh, gruff and dark sound owes a significant debt to old school icons like Amebix, Axegrinder, Deviated Instinct, and Antisect, and they mix and mangle their influences and leave ’em to rot on the battlefield.

Plenty of hammering rage drives System Overlord tracks like “Violent Revolution,” “Savage Execution” and “Cyborgs,” and thundering epics like “Corrupt Future” and “Northern Lights” exhibit subtler strengths, mixing guttural growls and clean vocals with crashing percussion and dirge-laden riffs. Connoisseurs of corpse-dragging crust will love the brute-force belligerence of “Absolute Fear,” “Nuclear Winter,” and “Second Attack,” which rain down like merciless mortar barrages. As a rule, all of System Overlord‘s mammoth tracks chug and churn with grinding muscle, while reeking of squalor and decay.

Swordwielder exudes tightly coiled aggression from start to finish here—songs rise from the ashes of desolation, and resounding calls for action and resistance ring loud. If you’re a fan of heavy-hitters like Fatum, War//Plague, Carnage, Zygome, Cancer Spreading or (insert your favorite hefty crust crew here), System Overlord‘s trampling tempo and strapping sound are bound to appeal.

Well here I got another KRIMTANK 7 inch record sent in by PIKE RECORDS.  If your wanting something that has very fast blast beats with a crusty voice over the top.  If you could understand the vocals a little more it would sound very similar to GERM ATTAK, but a little less pogo would be going on.  I really wish they would have sent a sheet with what the song titles are in English so I could better understand what the song was about.  But all is good there is a total of twelve songs six on each side.  Looking at the artwork on this there isn’t really any just photos of the band drinking beers and playing at shows, which looks like it could be an enjoyable set to watch.  Hopefully someday I can this is the second KRIMTANK record out of three I have to review so stay tuned for the next one. Well I’m going to review a record that I can’t understand any of the song titles or even what the name of this record is, so here I go….  So I see the name of the band and think of Freddy Krueger and then I put this record on my turntable and am blown away with this very fast and raw vocals of growling coming from my speakers then I hear a woman singing and am totally into this 2 fronted band with one male and one female.  Reminds me of early KRANG before the girl left the band and has a similar heavy style to them with amazing guitar riffs and brutal/loud drumming.  This record has a total of six songs, three on each side with names like “Strach Otvoritoci” which in English is “Afraid to open your eyes” and “Pracuj A Zdochni” which is “Work and Die” in English and they translate the lyrics in the 7 inch so you know what it means in English which this is very short lyrics to a heavy song and you have a little gem here.  They sent a bandcamp link with this record so follow the link and download this record for FREE!!!  Also I’m suppose to put label info for this record so here it goes. Wolfdrunk Records, Anarchist Black Cross Records, Nuclear Madness, Aback Distribuce Records, Good Night White Pride, GRF Records, Veva Records, Hluboka Orba Records, Cestou Na Hrbitov Records, and Uchylny Kos. How do I start off describing this to you well this is something that could be on SORRY STATE Records.  Totally fast, totally in your face punk rock.  As I sit here and listen to it I’m remembering the time I seen CULO in a basement and it brings back so many good memories. So CHAOTIC NEUTRAL hail from Indianapolis and when I think of Indy to be honest nothing comes to mind, until now. So this 7 inch has a total of 5 songs that go by so fast you’ll have to listen to it again. (which I did) The album artwork is a sweet drawing of messed up head on it with worms coming from the mouth which is pretty sweet.  When I looked this up on line I seen a bunch with white covers and was wondering why mine has a red cover, so I dug a little further and came to find out that there is a total of 150 copies the first press has white covers and the second press are red covers.  No matter what this is a must have for anyone who likes CULO, DOUBLE NEGATIVE, DIRECT CONTROL.  Here are the sites to check these guys out Facebook,Bandcamp, and there Blogspot.  Label this was put out on was LAWFUL EVIL RECORDS. I couldn’t find a link for them.  P.S. go download this for FREE!!! (XbezerkerX)

Never heard of either of these bands before  and I’m kind of glad I got to.  First side of the split you here KRIMTANK .  KRIMTANK are a punk band from Sweden who play really fast and catchy/distorted punk rock.  Kind of sounds like it was recorded in a basement or practice space all the noise you can hear in the background makes it for a very nice raw sound.  I wouldn’t want to say it’s pure fastcore stuff but the songs are very short and to the point. The other side you hear is  FIVE FINGER DISCOUNT a much different style then KRIMTANK.  FIVE FINGER DISCOUNT plays a really good rock n roll style kind of Rockabilly mixed with early country sound, which they play really really good.  A total of 2 song that they contribute, I’m wishing that there was more that’s how good it is.  I couldn’t find any links to FIVE FINGER DISCOUNT I found a myspace link for KRIMTANK.  Also this was put out on PIKE RECORDS in the UK and I couldn’t find a page for them but found a lot of distros that have this in stock so I’d say pick this up for the  FIVE FINGER DISCOUNT side if nothing else.  (XbezerkerX)

Jump in the pit and fuck some shit up, this record is balls to the wall punk rock.  Tons of crazy energy coming out of my speakers right now.  Very fast and nasty vocals and pounding guitar behind it makes this an awesome release.  Kind of bummed that this is only 3 songs but all 3 of these songs sound amazing.  If you’re a fan of punk rock then you’ll love this record.  The B-side of this record “The Other” starts off with a nice bass intro into guitar then the drums start into something really heavy, about 2 ½ minutes into the song then the vocals kick in at it is amazing. My favorite song on this 7 inch is “The Other” and you should go check these guys out Midwestern punk soon to blow up.  Just check out the label they’re on with good backing and a solid tour that would put these guys on the map. Also if you’re lucky enough to snag one on white vinyl cheers to ya!  (XbezerkerX)

So lets start off with FURLONG-Sex Bunker this is a nice little song with a repeating guitar riff  and some gritty vocals over that.  This song has some kind of keyboard effects in the middle of the song which makes me flashback to playing video games as a kid shooting stuff on Nintendo.  Basically the track is half song and half weird keyboard syth track all in all if you’re into the more modern hipster tracks that are coming out these days you’ll love this.  Now it’s time to flip this bad boy over to listen to SICK CITY FOUR.  There track is called “Burundi Punchclock” well not going to lie but if noisecore and jazz met and started to bang on drums and play there guitar all weird and added a horn section to randomly play together then you have this.  I really don’t know what to say just not my thing. This record does come with a digital download with bonus content and also comes on some sweet splatter vinyl. (XbezerkerX)

3721614072-1Queer-positive fastcore from Bloomington, IN. Is there slogan and it fits 12 very fast and pissed off songs standing up for equal human rights. Jumping right into this record is “Under The Radar” 50 seconds of pure of pissed off punk talking about bands reusing the recycling the same ideas and not make up there own.  One of my personal favorites is “Gay Majority” which they are talking about all the people out there talking about anti-gay camps and people out there trying to spread gods words about homosexuality.  The longest track on this record is a “WARPATH” cover of “Abomination” which I didn’t think would be as good as WARPATH but it was amazing.  This record has a screen printed cover and back also the B-side is screen printed clear vinyl with pink ink is what my copy looks like also there is a pink vinyl with pink ink as well. Stamped on the inner sleeve is the slogan “Reality is a cult, everything is a Conspiracy”.  Check these guys out follow the links and buy or download this!  (XbezerkerX)

Here is my first digital only review.  What is the world coming to now with all these digital releases. Can’t really complain when I listen to this, this is a bad ass release.  They call themselves D-beat/Crust Punk which I can see but this is better then your average D-beat/Crust band these songs sound way better with the gritty vocals and the heavy guitar. Plus all the songs aren’t long epic riffs there are some like “Bottle of Oblivion” that is a super fast catchy punk song with heavy drums and fast vocals.  Track #9 has a nice intro into the song of a Native American talking about the struggle of the white man taking there land away and putting them on reservations. So kind of in the lines of RESISTANT CULTURE. Kind of has the KONTRASEKT sound to them. Then goes into the gritty as hell vocals that I think really make this album, nothing fancy straight to the point and not over produced at all.  Please everyone go follow the link and download this album for free or pay whatever you can.  You’ll be glad you did.  (XbezerkerX)

Oh man another little gem from these guys.  A little more info on BILL BONDSMEN, they are from Detroit, Michigan and have been a band since 2002. Here is a rad new 7 inch again an awesome record with a screen printed cover and painted with water colors it look/feels like.  Again 2 songs one on each side with a large hole in the middle only this time I didn’t get a colored vinyl 😦  But nonetheless still really like this album.  Sounds like these were recorded at the same time very lo-fi vocals, gritty and very raw with plastering guitar coming at you. “Overcrowded Control” has a nice up and down bass in it reminds me of a circus jam or something.  B-side is “Untitled”  and it must be for a reason, vocals come in about a minute and a half into the song and is very heavy compared to the A-side, this could have easily been the A-side of the record. Again go get this record if your into gritty punk that sounds like it was recorded in a basement. Top image is from the interweb, Bottom is what my record looks like. (XbezerkerX)
