DÖDLÄGE are a raw grind/crust band that belt out old school crust the way it was meant to be played! Highly influenced by Swedish Kångpunk (the word DÖDLÄGE is Swedish for “Deadlock”), you can expect a large Scandi influence. DÖDLÄGE mix the more raw eras of ANTI-CIMEX with the earlier years of crust/grind bands like EXTREME NOISE TERROR and DISRUPT. You might be thinking thats it’s be done before, and it has… but every once in a while a band does it right! DÖDLÄGE are able to maintain a fine balance of bringing something fresh to the table while taking you back to the earlier glory years of the genre. ”Ritual Slaughter” is sixteen ear bleeding tracks of raw crust/grind that will have you banging your fist and grinding your teeth while craving for more!

7 Doom – Corrupt Fucking System review

Finally an new album from Doom it’s been quite a while, so it’s a nice start to the year. There is no need for any introduction with with a band like Doom. If your looking at Profane Existence your damn familiar with with them at this stage. Here we have 14 songs of great variation with each one packing a great punch. Once again they play that heavy crusty punk we love them for. In our ever changing world Doom remain constant, their message has not changed throughout the years but remains as relevant as it ever has been.

‘Corrupt Fucking System’ opens with heavy distortion, then goes straight for the jugular. Lyrically shitting on the vile conspiracy that is the Catholic church which goes straight to your cerebrum senses. This is crust punk the way it should be, belted out, loud, bass heavy and takes no prisoners. That filthy monolithic buzzing guitar has not changed since the beginnings of the band. The only difference is that it is now just way better produced. This isn’t a song-by-song analysis as you can check out their bandcamp page and see how good it is for yourself. This album won’t change the world, it just says it how it is. Let’s leave the review with a quote from ‘Corrupt Fucking System’

Four songs of sludge from Cincinatti rage through a half hour of bliss for metal heads with an affinity for long songs. All songs featured on this album are 7:45 or longer, with the exception of title track Colony Of Machines. The aforementioned is merely a relaxing interlude between mammoth assaults of sludge that characterize this album.. really more like a segue into the last song, or if this was put on vinyl it would act as an introduction to the B-side. MOLLUSK is comprised of two members, one of which is credited with drums / vocals, but the level of musicianship on this album shows what monumental feats a two piece can do. I cant really describe this as a vision from the guy credited with strings (guitar & bass), because the album wouldn’t flow without the drums. Truly, the drumming going on here is what keeps this monster of sound from slowly drowning in the murky waters of ambiance that the melodies provide. Gruff shouted out vocals that are rather generic in style emanate from only the compositions on the first half of this cd, the other half being purely instrumental. Lyrics are neither provided on the bandcamp page or in the cd, so its anyones guess what the duo sing about. Judging from the music, I’d say they deal with the decay of society into the quagmire of filth that flows through the sewers of our cities like black blood through someones veins. It’s not really the lyrical content that the band is going for, but more for the mood and feeling that the musical mixture of distorted melodies and surging drums provides for the listener. Highly recommended for those who like long sludge metal songs with a heavy slab of doom thrown in for good measure. Not for everyone.Recorded at Candyland Studio by Mike Montgomery during the Spring of 2013. Expect a sticker with purchase of CD. or you can download for free from bandcamp.

Well holy heavy riffs batman, the first track “Oblivion’s Spring” is a fifteen minute well put together piece. A mellow intro goes into something very dark and heavy with penetrating vocals over the guitar and pounding drums that accompany this track. The track never strays away from the opening intro in the background. A little into the song it slows down a bit and now it’s time to relax on this jam and just listen to the calming effect of the guitar. Pretty soon it goes back into the opening riff but not for long before it gets even heavier then the first time. With some vocals mixed in there, this is everything you’ll ever want in the first track. Then it’s time for “Dirge/Purgation” almost a twenty minute long heavy doomy/sludgy track. Guitar and drum beat intro, very nice and calm to start of this song, but don’t get to into the low volumed guitar. This tracks gets heavy and fast real quick with the pounding drums and the guitar. Taking over the song with screams/yells coming through the microphone. This was my first time listening to ASH BORER and this wont be the last time either. If you just want to relax and turn on something where you don’t need to think about lyrics or propaganda, just sit and relax to ASH BORER. This week’s recipe comes from Joe Fisher at http://dachaproject.com/ in Western New York. He’s a baker, a lover of sustainability and all things doom metal. Oh, and an all around good guy. We don’t have a picture this week so you’ll just have to make this dish to have a look at it. Enjoy!

Easy Vegan Pad Thai (aka, you can make this from a average grocery store!)

This is a two serving receipe that starts with:

6 oz. rice noodles, (the thick wide ones)

Sauce
3 T. fresh lime juice
3 T. catsup
1 T. brown sugar
1/4 T. soy sauce

—-
3/4 lb. mung bean sprouts

3 T. peanut or vegetable oil
3-4 garlic cloves, minced and pressed
1 T. minced fresh chile or 1 1/2 teaspoons crushed red pepper flakes
2 cups thinly sliced carrots
1 block tofu cubed and lightly browned,
2/3 cup chopped peanuts
6-8 scallions, chopped, about 1 cup
Small peice of ginger minced very fine
Small handful of Cilanro or fresh Lemongrass

After bringing water to boil in a covered pot, blanch the mung bean
spouts by dipping in the boiling water for 30 seconds. Set aside to
drain.

When the water returns to a boil, stir in the rice noodles and cook
for 3-5 minutes until tender but firm. Drain, then rinse in cool water
and set aside to drain again.

In a small bowl mix the sauce ingredients.

Prepare the other ingredients. Then heat oil for stir fry in a wok or
large skillet, add the garlic and chile and swirl in the oil for a
moment before adding the carrots and stir frying them for a
minute. Push the carrots to the side and add the tofu tofu. Then pour
in the sauce and stir everything together. Add the
drained noodles and mung sprouts and toss, then stir in peanuts and
scallions. Flip a couple more times under high-heat and you are done!
