Making Punk A Threat Again!

  • The long awaited debut LP from NYC’s FLOWER “Hardly A Dream” is finally set to arrive.

FLOWER’s tedious approach to writing/creating/drawing their debut LP was carefully thought out and the result is a monumental anarcho punk /crust record.

“Hardly A Dream” Takes us on a bleak journey through the dark side of society. As soon as you drop the needle a dark atmosphere is immediately created with a slow intro featuring arpeggio guitar work that builds into pummeling d-beat crust. The albums vocals then leave you with a feeling of being crushed by the ever-present weight of living through our modern world of late stage capitalism that was built on the falsehoods of the so called American dream, religious hypocrisy’s, nationalism, and the greed of humankind.

FLOWER take many cues from predecessors and are most often (and rightfully so) compared to NAUSEA but they also take a heavy influence from ANTISECT, SACRILEGE & other greats. The artwork has a very RUDIMENTARY PENI feel and the record comes with an amazing 24.5 X 34.75 CRASS style poster jacket. All art work was meticulously hand drawn and overseen by the guitarist Willow in true DIY style and spirit. Willow was also cool enough to draw up a special shirt for the record release featuring an alternative PROFANE EXISTENCE backprint!

  • Finally, the third LP from AGNOSY has arrived!

    AGNOSY-cover

Dark, heavy, galloping crust from the streets of London. AGNOSY is back to present us with a ferocious beast of an album that can only be forged by the anger and frustration of living in today’s world. “When Daylight Reveals The Torture” aggressively attacks evils such the current rise of fascism and animal abuse. It intelligently and passionately touches on the Afrin invasion and the revolution in Rojava and shows nothing but utter disgust toward the arrogance of humankind’s lust for greed and power that will inevitably lead us down paths of war and environmental devastation.

AGNOSY – Live at SCUMFEST in London. 2011

While lyrically AGNOSY are much more politicly straight forward this time around than on previous releases, musically they have expanded on their sound to create a dark and moody atmosphere while at the same time staying crust as fuck. To say they know what they are doing would be an understatement from this band of vets whose members have played in HIATUS, HEALTH HAZARD, and BEGINNING OF THE END.

Long galloping intros are followed up by traditional d-beat, fierce solo’s are then meet with vicious vocals and pulverizing bass in a brilliant recording captured by Lewis Johns at The Ranch Production House and was mastered by Brad Boatright at Portland’s legendary Audiosiege. We then pressed on deluxe heavyweight 150-gram vinyl,  printed on reverse board jackets, and included an 11in x 22in gatefold insert to bring you a high quality and truly epic record.

Review by Craig Hayes from “Your Last Rites”…
    Swordwielder – System Overlord
Heavyweight punk fanatics take note: System Overlord is a fucking triumph. The long-awaited sophomore album from Gothenburg stenchcore band Swordwielder is a brooding behemoth, constructed from the filthiest and heftiest strains of punk and metal. System Overlord shimmers with apocalyptic visions, and it’s overflowing with all the grim atmospherics and intimidating intensity that defines consummate crushing crust.

Too much hype? No way… And no apologies, either. Swordwielder deal in definitive stenchcore on System Overlord, and much like their full-length debut, 2013’s Grim Visions of Battle, the band’s latest release is a knockout. Swordwielder’s harsh, gruff and dark sound owes a significant debt to old school icons like Amebix, Axegrinder, Deviated Instinct, and Antisect, and they mix and mangle their influences and leave ’em to rot on the battlefield.

Plenty of hammering rage drives System Overlord tracks like “Violent Revolution,” “Savage Execution” and “Cyborgs,” and thundering epics like “Corrupt Future” and “Northern Lights” exhibit subtler strengths, mixing guttural growls and clean vocals with crashing percussion and dirge-laden riffs. Connoisseurs of corpse-dragging crust will love the brute-force belligerence of “Absolute Fear,” “Nuclear Winter,” and “Second Attack,” which rain down like merciless mortar barrages. As a rule, all of System Overlord‘s mammoth tracks chug and churn with grinding muscle, while reeking of squalor and decay.

Swordwielder exudes tightly coiled aggression from start to finish here—songs rise from the ashes of desolation, and resounding calls for action and resistance ring loud. If you’re a fan of heavy-hitters like Fatum, War//Plague, Carnage, Zygome, Cancer Spreading or (insert your favorite hefty crust crew here), System Overlord‘s trampling tempo and strapping sound are bound to appeal.

0 WAR//PLAGUE – Primal 7″ Out Now!! (Finally)

WAR//PLAGUE’s “Primal” 7″ is finally out! After a long delay at the pressing plant we finally have this fine slab of wax in our hands. This marks the kick off of the second half of the PE Limited Edition Singles Series (starting with record #7). If you ordered the subscription I’m pleased to announce that your copies will go out in the mail tomorrow. You can also order individual copies as well.

WAR//PLAGUE – Primal is potentially the best release these Minneapolis punks have yet to offer! The driving force behind this release is laden with mad as fuck thrash punk. These tracks are an all out assault on the shallow society we live in. This is “Primal”…war cries to decimate corporate sponsorship in the DIY punk underground, and to curse the thrones of those who rule. WAR//PLAGUE carry the torch for what really matters in this desolate world of superficial living and material gain. The scathing and metallic riffs, the onslaught of drums and the scorching vocals makes this a serious addition to their previous releases. This is a clear and concise release with a message to raise the flag high and to bestow nothing but rage against the masses that lie, cheat and kill.

WAR//PLAGUE – On A Darker Dawn LP

WAR-PLAGUE cover

For those of you who don’t know who WAR//PLAGUE are… well, you’re missing out. It’s doubtful that a simple review can do the band justice or properly describe one of the finest crust bands going today.

It would seem like cheating to mention MISERY at this point in the review. After all, WAR//PLAGUE are a different group of individuals at a different point in their lives. However, there is no denying the impact and influence that bands like MISERY, AMEBIX, DEVIATED INSTINCT, etc have had on the developing sound of WAR//PLAGUE. In no way am I saying that they are just another throwback band – their sound is definitely their own. I mention MISERY specifically because both bands have created a very heavy, yet diverse crust sound that is as much a nod to the originators of UK crust as it is their original vision of the style. And of course, you can’t deny the Minneapolis connection between the two. There’s no way that either band could have existed outside the twin cities. Call it fate.

On A Darker Dawn is the first WAR//PLAGUE full-length, and it was more than worth the wait. As an avid fan from the first demo through the Smolder EP, the split LP with POLICE BASTARD, and finally this masterpiece, I’m struck by how much the band has grown in such a short period of time. While all the elements were always there, everything has completely come together on this record. Lutz’ vocals have never sounded better; the guitar work is absolutely outstanding; the song structures have grown leaps and bounds; I can finally hear Sam’s bass abilities (a complaint I’ve often had in past recordings is that the bass was too low in the mix); the drumming isn’t too technical, but definitely not rudimentary – Chad seems to have a style all his own.

From the instrumental opening through the nine songs and into the instrumental closing, you can tell this is a well crafted piece of music. This is one of those records that you need to listen to all the way through, as it just won’t impact you the same way in any other order, or if any piece is missing. This is absolutely the best Profane release in recent memory, and one of the best punk albums of the last few years. (Inbred)

An intense new full length album from this dark crust band hailing from the gloomy crust punk underworld of Gothenburg, Sweden. Eight songs in just over 72 minutes(!) of death and black metal gloom with a healthy dose of crust punk influences. This is one of the most epic and most expressive releases to date: crushed souls, despair, and everything you’d expect from a Profane Existence title.

Each band offers up three songs of rage-filled anarcho-punk which straddle the line between traditional punk rock and full on thrash metal. The packaging is in the traditional anarcho-punk fold out poster style and is being pressed on 100% recycled vinyl. But this is the digital version, fold out poster not included.

“ATU’s newest release Black Sands will not disappoint with awesome metallic riffs and lyrics that bring home issues we all should have on our minds. What’s so on point about this band is that they are the total fucking package; not only do they incite change on the lyrical tip, but the music they lay down is so epic. ATU are able to balance all of the influences of metal, crust and punk with pure passion and conviction, which makes their songs dig deeper into your mind….” – CVLT NATION

Disrespect dgtlDISRESPECT – 2004 Recordings

DISRESPECT started in Minneapolis as a classic 80′s punk rock cover band by former and current members of DESTROY, MISERY, etc. and eventually started writing original songs in the same spirit. This is 80′s style anarcho-UK style  punk. This includes their first two EP’s that were both recorded in 2004. It also features three previously unreleased covers from the likes of ABRASIVE WHEELS, L7, and TURBO NEGRO.

garmonboziaGARMONBOZIA

While GARMONBOZIA have since broken up their message and music continue to influence the sounds and ideas of the anarcho-punk movement world-wide.

LPCoverIN DEFENCE – Party Lines & Politics

Fourteen tracks of spastic Ritalin-fueled hardcore thrash from the toxic underbelly of Minneapolis-St Paul. Causticly sarcastic lyrics spewed over super crushing guitar riffs and relentless machine gun-like percussion. IN DEFENCE are definitely hometown favorites (usually drawing bigger crowds than the touring bands they support), have a relentless tour schedule, and are comfortable playing with bands from across the hardcore / punk / metal spectrum. This is their third album.

ID into the sewer coverIN DEFENCE – Into The Sewer

Minneapolis’ taco eating retard thrash comando unit return with another hard hitting, rip your face off, party till you puke album of sarcastic jams and political jabs. In Defence make fun of everything from eating pizza to moshing the wrong way. Why do they care so much about trivial topics? Who knows. But what makes us laugh makes us stronger and In Defence gets whittier by the day. Includes their second LP plus two 7″s and a few bonus tracks.

BREAKDANCE cvrIN DEFENCE – Don’t Know How To Breakdance

In Defence play raging thrash punk crossover with a sarcastic/humorous yet political approach to their lyrics. It It includes bonus cuts from their split 7″ with Black Market Fetus and lost comp trax as well as classic In Defence anthems like “NO WAR… BUT STAR WARS”.

Eleven tracks of raging, thrash-influenced, anarcho-punk mayhem, with strong female vocals and angry social-political commentary. Povoked coldPROVOKED – Prepare For The Cold

Minneapolis monsters of d-beat crust PROVOKED are back with a vengeance! Picking up where their Infant in the Womb of Warfare LP left off, they return with ten powerful new tracks which clearly highlight their style of mixing classic d-beat thrash, monstrously powerful crust, and just the right amount of metallic guitar riffage. This record features their new vocalist, Kerri, taking over for Scaba who found her life’s love in Germany after their last European tour.

Resist7cvrRESIST – Another Day In Paradise

After a fifteen year break to wise up and dry out, Portland’s anarcho-punk legends RESIST are back and stronger than ever. Still anchored by original vocalist Tom Nims and guitar player Ward Young, they have added new talent on bass and drums. While still distinctively the same fast and raw RESIST you remember from the old days, the song writing for this new material has greatly matured and is much more dimensional than anything before.
