Making Punk A Threat Again!

  • The long awaited debut LP from NYC’s FLOWER “Hardly A Dream” is finally set to arrive.

FLOWER’s tedious approach to writing/creating/drawing their debut LP was carefully thought out and the result is a monumental anarcho punk /crust record.

“Hardly A Dream” Takes us on a bleak journey through the dark side of society. As soon as you drop the needle a dark atmosphere is immediately created with a slow intro featuring arpeggio guitar work that builds into pummeling d-beat crust. The albums vocals then leave you with a feeling of being crushed by the ever-present weight of living through our modern world of late stage capitalism that was built on the falsehoods of the so called American dream, religious hypocrisy’s, nationalism, and the greed of humankind.

FLOWER take many cues from predecessors and are most often (and rightfully so) compared to NAUSEA but they also take a heavy influence from ANTISECT, SACRILEGE & other greats. The artwork has a very RUDIMENTARY PENI feel and the record comes with an amazing 24.5 X 34.75 CRASS style poster jacket. All art work was meticulously hand drawn and overseen by the guitarist Willow in true DIY style and spirit. Willow was also cool enough to draw up a special shirt for the record release featuring an alternative PROFANE EXISTENCE backprint!

  • Finally, the third LP from AGNOSY has arrived!

    AGNOSY-cover

Dark, heavy, galloping crust from the streets of London. AGNOSY is back to present us with a ferocious beast of an album that can only be forged by the anger and frustration of living in today’s world. “When Daylight Reveals The Torture” aggressively attacks evils such the current rise of fascism and animal abuse. It intelligently and passionately touches on the Afrin invasion and the revolution in Rojava and shows nothing but utter disgust toward the arrogance of humankind’s lust for greed and power that will inevitably lead us down paths of war and environmental devastation.

AGNOSY – Live at SCUMFEST in London. 2011

While lyrically AGNOSY are much more politicly straight forward this time around than on previous releases, musically they have expanded on their sound to create a dark and moody atmosphere while at the same time staying crust as fuck. To say they know what they are doing would be an understatement from this band of vets whose members have played in HIATUS, HEALTH HAZARD, and BEGINNING OF THE END.

Long galloping intros are followed up by traditional d-beat, fierce solo’s are then meet with vicious vocals and pulverizing bass in a brilliant recording captured by Lewis Johns at The Ranch Production House and was mastered by Brad Boatright at Portland’s legendary Audiosiege. We then pressed on deluxe heavyweight 150-gram vinyl,  printed on reverse board jackets, and included an 11in x 22in gatefold insert to bring you a high quality and truly epic record.

Review by Craig Hayes from “Your Last Rites”…
    Swordwielder – System Overlord
Heavyweight punk fanatics take note: System Overlord is a fucking triumph. The long-awaited sophomore album from Gothenburg stenchcore band Swordwielder is a brooding behemoth, constructed from the filthiest and heftiest strains of punk and metal. System Overlord shimmers with apocalyptic visions, and it’s overflowing with all the grim atmospherics and intimidating intensity that defines consummate crushing crust.

Too much hype? No way… And no apologies, either. Swordwielder deal in definitive stenchcore on System Overlord, and much like their full-length debut, 2013’s Grim Visions of Battle, the band’s latest release is a knockout. Swordwielder’s harsh, gruff and dark sound owes a significant debt to old school icons like Amebix, Axegrinder, Deviated Instinct, and Antisect, and they mix and mangle their influences and leave ’em to rot on the battlefield.

Plenty of hammering rage drives System Overlord tracks like “Violent Revolution,” “Savage Execution” and “Cyborgs,” and thundering epics like “Corrupt Future” and “Northern Lights” exhibit subtler strengths, mixing guttural growls and clean vocals with crashing percussion and dirge-laden riffs. Connoisseurs of corpse-dragging crust will love the brute-force belligerence of “Absolute Fear,” “Nuclear Winter,” and “Second Attack,” which rain down like merciless mortar barrages. As a rule, all of System Overlord‘s mammoth tracks chug and churn with grinding muscle, while reeking of squalor and decay.

Swordwielder exudes tightly coiled aggression from start to finish here—songs rise from the ashes of desolation, and resounding calls for action and resistance ring loud. If you’re a fan of heavy-hitters like Fatum, War//Plague, Carnage, Zygome, Cancer Spreading or (insert your favorite hefty crust crew here), System Overlord‘s trampling tempo and strapping sound are bound to appeal.

1 ALB(A)TWITCH: ONLY DEAD BIRDS SING OVER THE GRAVES OF FALLEN KINGS CD REVIEW

  • October 13, 2013
  • by PigBastard
  • · Reviews

Albatwitch-Only-Dead-Birds-150x150The ALBATWITCH were a mythical group of 4 foot tall ape–men that were hunted nearly to extinction in the early 1800s and lived in the hills and rivers of southeast Pennsylvania.  It is from these stories that the band gets their name. Full color booklet includes credits and lyrics as well as lots of artwork and a vinyl sticker (while supplies last).  Officially released September 2013, CD package seems to be made of recycled cardboard.
This band is unlike anything I have ever heard before.  The two member band that is ALB(A)TWITCH successfully mix dark folk, black noise, and crusty black metal together to create a sonic mass few have heard before.  Members come from other York PA bands such as STONE BREATH, LAYR, and CROW TONGUE, among others.  The band take influence from the other projects they are in and produce something beyond easy description.  Some songs are deeply rooted in a WITTR style of black metal, others are American folk based, while still others are harsh walls of machine made noise.  Lyrics are very anarcho – punk in style although not musically, other subjects deal amongst the timelessness of astral reality.  Apart from the metal based songs, the primary drums used are the dumbek and the Bodh ran, both of which are hand played drums.  Other traditional instruments consist of banjo, celtic harp, lobow, and stick dulcimer, amidst new technology such as oscillators and a harmonium.
The CD opens with an acoustic chamber style tune, devolves into industrial machine noise & distortion, then progresses into non-conventional black metal.  I say non – conventional because the vocals and guitar are drenched in reverb beyond clarity, industrial elements persist throughout, and the drums are slower than usual for the style.  The entire album rotates amidst these styles for 60 + minutes, although the styles start to weld together by the last 3rd of this cd and become a sludgy mixture which is still great.  By the time this album is over, it feels like the collapse of western civilization has commenced and we are naught but survivors in a strange new world.  We have survived because we have the integrity required to live through the heat and the cold and the intelligence to stave off the predators for another night.  All acoustic songs are performed to remind the listener that revolutionary music existed before electricity and modern technology, and will persist after the industrial collapse.
ALB(A)TWITCH is neither for the scene purist, nor the faint of heart.  Aided by the lyrics, the songs make one think, and that is exactly what this band wants people to do.  When listening to this album, one will be rewarded only if they bring an open mind.

0 Kerry King and Punk Rock Gangs…

  • October 10, 2013

JOSH-HEADER

We grew up far from LA but when we were younger and had our “crew” many, including the local police, considered us a gang.  Sometimes we might have even operated as one in just how we stuck together.  We didn’t parlay in any illegal enterprise per se, we just kind of did what we wanted and were tight.  We stood up for one another and to many that meant we were a gang…

A few years back we were on tour and were kicking it over at Rito from SMD’s pad and I was reading an issue of Razorcake that covered this very topic.  The Suicidals, the TSOL crew and the Circle One gang.  Basically they were all hoodlums looking for the next adventure but often times it got violent and punks fought punks.  On this particular evening Mike from Circle One happened to be in the room and he was giving us some knowledge as he expanded on the stories I was reading.  He confirmed what I had always heard…TSOL were the baddest mofos on the scene, they were the ones to avoid for fear of getting your head kicked in or at least getting your ass robbed.

Years ago I had a chance to interview Mike Roche from TSOL and I asked him a bit about their legacy as a gang.  From his perspective they were just a bunch dudes that hung together, like my “crew” as described above, and didn’t really consider themselves a gang.  They were petty thieves and hoodlums, there was nothing organized about they were doing.  There certainly wasn’t any criminal enterprise other than some burglaries here and there to score beer and drug money alongside some basic vandalism.

The Decline of Western Civilization’ was on the TV and watching it with someone who was part of the scene at the time was an unreal experience.  Circle One Mike narrated the entire movie like it was our own personal directors cut version or something.  He corrected the names of venues, pointed dudes in the crowd out and explained that as much as the movie claims to be set in LA the real scene was in Orange County, LA was full of “art-punk” and the hardcore kids were all from the burbs…OC.  With that much of the movie actually filmed in OC.

Kerry King from SLAYER seems like the type of dude that owns some assault weapons.  I’m not getting into a gun debate here, just simply stating that I bet he owns some.   He always wears military styled boots and those camo man-pris.  I mean isn’t that just enough right there to draw the logical conclusion that he owns some semi-automatic weapons if not the fully automatic kind even?  Of course it is!

Jack Grisham as the singer for TSOL was probably the gang leader I reckon.  If a dude sings in a band and is in a gang he is the gang leader I also reckon.  Isn’t the singer always the gang leader?  Of course he is!

If you’re all hanging in SoCal, the greater LA area to be exact,  it’s likely you might have crossed paths. Especially if your bitchen’ metal band covered some bitchen’ punk tunes by the other guys band.  And if your son is some sort of wanna’ be gang banger dude and he crosses paths with the toughest motherfuckers in the punk-gang circuit it’s likely he might get his ass handed to him by the lead singer / gang leader.  And if it goes too far your son might just become another gangland statistic.  That’s means your offspring is dead and Jack Grisham killed him.  Since you are Kerry King the next logical move is bust out some of that artillery you have and fill that punk-goth weirdo full of fucken’ lead.  Time to light his ass up with a full clip from your AR-15!!!  Die fucker!!!!

It seemed so real…So plausible…I even woke up thought about the events as they were understood and went back to sleep to explore this crazy ass story further.

The story that unfolded told the sordid tale of LA punk gangs crossing paths with pseudo Satanic metal dudes and their families.  As it unfolded it became clear that Kerry King’s son was fucking around in some shit he had no business fucking around in.  He thought he was quite the bad ass until Jack Grisham capped his ass and put an end to his fucking around.  Kerry King was not going to let the death of his son go un-avenged so he grabbed some firearms, some banana clips, hunted that cold blooded killer down and lit him up like a fucking Christmas tree!  “Take that punk!!! “  Yes, Kerry King killed Jack Grisham in a gangland shootout.  Jack’s 9mm was no match for Kerry’s full on Satanic assault.

Now what the hell is that dream supposed to mean?  Whew!  I have some fucked up dreams…

Notes:

  1.  The ROAC record is almost done.  We went back in to record one more song a couple of weeks ago.  We got some sick as fuck cover art and a new logo.  We are in business!
  2. There has been an unusually high number of “punx” in the Denver area drinking Coors.  This is unacceptable.  Coors has ties back to the Ku Klux Klan and still to this day gives money to groups like Focus on the Family and other right wing groups.  You vote with your dollar!!!!  Punx have no business giving businesses like this their business.  FUCK!  Stand for something!

1 Pulled Sweet Potato Bar-B-Que Wraps

This is a dish I learned to make 6 or 7 years ago. Originally, to my knowledge, my friend Pablo invented this dish. But he never wrote down the recipe, and I have repeatedly re-worked it over the years. So here is my version, with thanks to Pablo. What’s great about this recipe is that you can make it and it will be vegan and gluten free and high fructose corn syrup free with no weird specialty foods needed. I’ve been cooking it a lot lately for family dinners at the Wingnut Anarchist Collective in Richmond, VA. We also recently made it with Food Not Bombs for an event we were catering. You can eat this plain, or in wraps with rice, or on bread for sandwitches etc. I personally prefer recipes with lots of room for customization.

barbarpotato

Pulled Sweet Potato Bar-B-Que Wraps

Serves 4-6 people (depending on the size of the potatoes) (with leftovers duh yummy)

You will need: a cheese grater, knife, cutting board, pot, large frying pan, pot or rice maker, etc.

For the dish

4 sweet potatoes

2 yellow onions (or more to taste)

1 head of garlic

1 bag of spinach

1 pack of tortillas

3 cups of rice

vegetable oil

bar-b-que sawce – You can buy store bought sauce if you want. But I highly recommend making your own. Typically I don’t use a recipe for my bar-b-que sawce. I make mine from memory and taste as I go. And we all know bar-b-que is a helluva personal, important thing. North carolina style is very vinegary, other styles are very mole-asses or ketchup based. I combine them all for the best flavors. To make my bar-b-que sawce you will need

sweetsawce

1/2 cup apple cider vinegar (I recommend Braggs) (other vinegars can work, I just prefer apple cider)

1/4 cup molasses

salt, pepper, cayenne, chili powder, bbq rubs, seasoning salt, garlic powder, onion powder

4 tablespoons whole grain mustard

1 small can tomato paste or more if you like a super tomatoey sawce

water

ketchup w/out high fructose corn syrup – not necessary if you use more tomato paste or like a more vinegar based bbq

Step 1- Put rice on, however you prefer, stovetop or rice maker. You can pretty much use whatever type of rice you prefer for this as well. Go wild.

Step 2- Start shredding the sweet potatoes on a cheese grater. You are making shreds of sweet potatoes, similar to hash browns, and resembling pulled pork bar-b-que. Shredding potatoes on a grater is hard work and can make your arm super sore. Trick a friend into doing it! (they’ll be happy to have helped when they get to eat it)

Step 3- Dice the 2 onions and garlic to taste, put in a sauce pan with some oil to simmer.

Step 4- Once the garlic and onions have started to carmelize, begin to add in the other sauce ingredients. How thick, how spicy, how sweet, how vinegary your sauce ends up is up to you. Keep tasting it as you let the sauce simmer. Add ingredients as you see fit. If you have and bbq rubs or similar spices you might want to add those too.

Step 5- Put all your shredded pulled sweet potato in a frying pan with some vegetable oil and start frying it. Once its about half way as soft as you want the potatoes, add in the bbq sauce! You want to have enough sauce to keep all the sweet potatoes well lubed. If you realize you made too little sauce you can always bulk the sauce up as you go, throwing in more vinegar/molasses/ketchup/etc. Just keep tasting it and try to keep it to the ratio you like. If you make lots and lots of yummy sauce you can have extra for people to add to their wraps as they prefer.

Step 6- Once you have the rice and sweet potatoes cooked, assemble burritos with raw spinach, rice, and bbq in tortillas. Or eat it however you like. It is very deeelicious.

Variations- add tofu cubes or carrot shreds into sweet potato bbq mix. Or use jalopenos in the sauce, with the potato pulls, or raw in the wraps.

Hope you eat up in good spirits with good company and use the energy to do positive things!

Step 7- Smash the patriarchy and tear down capitalism!

1 How To Make Quinoa Taste Good: Punk rock kitchen 101

by  Comrade Black Comrade1e

I only began eating quinoa about a year ago, but since I started I have quickly learned to love it and been constantly surprised that many others don’t! “I tried liking it” or “it’s rather bland” are common replies I hear from people when I ask if they like quinoa, some are even more crass making statements like “you actually like that stuff???” Yet whenever I make quinoa for one of these folks the response I get is quite different “wow, that’s good, how you make it taste like that?”

Truth is, cooking quinoa and making it taste awesome is really fucking easy. Quinoa (pronounced keen-wah for those who are new to it) is super quick to cook, and super healthy, a super food loaded with great nutrients and a complete protein. So making it part of your diet can help make being healthier a hell of a lot less work. And don’t worry, for the poor folks out there quinoa doesn’t have to cost a lot if you follow the advice Emma Goldman once offered to a group of poor workers “Ask for work. If they don’t give you work, ask for bread. If they do not give you work or bread, then take bread.” In other words what I am suggesting is that if you can’t afford good food, don’t eat shit, just take what you need. Big corporations steal from the workers on all levels, then fuck over the consumer (also generally a worker) by overpricing, so don’t feel bad about taking what you need. The simplest way is to buy from the bulk section and mark it down as something similar looking like bulgur wheat or couscous or whatever. Look for the teller in training, or if they have those electronic self serve tellers use those.  Even if the teller notices, most will not say anything as they are not paid enough to care.

So here is how I cook it to make it taste awesome.

The most basic method is to cook it kinda like past or rice. I start by pouring some quinoa into a mesh tea strainer, then rinse it under the tap until the water runs through easy. I then throw it in the pot on medium heat and let it fry for a few seconds before adding water. I just add water like I would to pasta, and I am not the type to measure.

At this point I ad bouillon, I use about half a cube. Many of the basic soup bouillons happen to be vegan, even the ones that are chicken or beef flavored, just check the ingredients.

Next I add some black pepper, and if I have any ground garlic, I toss it in too. That is really all there is to it… Sometimes I also like to throw in some dried stinging nettles, which you can either get from a tea shop or you can just go outside and pick some and dry them. Fresh nettles work fine as well as long as you cook them for at least 8 minutes. The nettles are optional, I tend to like how the grassy flavor of the nettles compliments the grainy taste of quinoa and pepper.  Cook it until the water is out, and I tend to turn down the heat to ¼ when it begins to get close. When the water is gone, fluff it with a fork.

This is the most basic way I cook it, it only takes about 15 minutes, and this type of quinoa is perfect for putting on a wrap with other veggies, or to eat alone.

I also like to sometimes add canned beans in tomato sauce to the quinoa right when it is just about cooked. Another similar addition is to mix in frozen mixed veggies (like the mixed peas, carrots and corn bag they always seem to give you at the food bank) when the quinoa is nearly cooked.

One of my personal favorite dishes to make witch is very easy and tastes great using quinoa uses quinoa with wild rice and lentils.

I begin by pouring wild rice into a pot, add lots of water (more than you would for other rice). Heat should be on medium. I add the soup bouillon cube at this point, then take off and do something else for a while, wild rice takes a while to cook so it is good to go do laundry or check email or plan an arson (JUST KIDDING 😉 ) while it cooks. After about 20 minutes, I add quinoa, I like using red quinoa with this variation if I have it, but any kind is great. I also add lentils at this point. It will take about another 15 minutes after this, so I add some pepper, or garlic, then go off to play video games or write a letter to a prisoner, or whatever. Again I cook it until the water is gone, then it is done. Simple.

I generally like it as is, but if you want you can always add a bit of soya sauce or other stuff to your taste.

I’ve been avoiding 2 things recently- beginning to write for Profane Existence and addressing the Miley Cyrus debacle in any serious manner. This morning a houseguest who writes for Afropunk.com pointed out the Vice Magazine article about Miley Cyrus being punk, and I decided that was the last straw. So this is my wading into the intersectional cluster fuck. Apologies. Not sorry.

I live at the Wingnut Anarchist Collective in Richmond, VA and I listen to a lot of pop country, but my background and politics are punk. In August my Aunt bought me tickets to see Ke$ha in DC, cause I like Ke$ha, cause I have bad taste. I’d never been to any mainstream show in my life, and had no idea what to expect. What blew me away was the sheer spectacle of mainstream pop music. There were stripper poles, drag queens, blow up animals, soft porn videos, mini cars, angle grinders shooting sparks, and more. I was convinced by seeing the spectacle in person along with a couple thousand 14 year olds that nothing is shocking anymore. It is with this experience that I address the Vice article on Miley Cyrus.

The concept of punk as spectacle or just fashion rebellion is something that was probably never accurate, and if it was, it is hella outdated. Being raunchy or pushing boundaries has been for some time now completely accepted by consumer capitalism and the pop industry. Spectacle sells. Capitalist scum have at this point completely stopped caring about morals or promoting WASP values, and only care about making money and distracting people from reality. See the Society of the Spectacle by Guy Debord for more on this concept.

Shock isn’t punk. Punk has always been about more than shock. The politics of punk are shocking because they undermine mainstream values, not because our clothes are covered in safety pins. Punk is shocking because we want to overthrow the patriarchy and smash the government and free all the prisoners and stop racism. Drugs and excess aren’t punk either. Those have always been privileges of the rich.

If Miley Cyrus’ racist performances are punk, the the KKK is punk. And the KKK isn’t punk. Mainstream society is all about the white supremacy. Ain’t nothing punk about that. If Miley Cyrus not giving a fuck about what people think is punk, then Monsanto and the U.S. Military Industrial Complex are punk. I think its pretty obvious why not giving a fuck doesn’t make you punk.

Miley Cyrus can’t conceivably be working towards her own liberation while contributing to the oppression of others. Shit doesn’t work like that. No issue is one dimensional. Of course slut shaming is unacceptable. But we have to go beyond the white/liberal feminist stance to address the racism and classism and other shit coming from Miley’s corner. And we also have to address the systemic nature of these things. It’s not just Miley and it never has been.

Dan Ozzi (author of the Vice article) writes like a person with a lot of privilege. He thinks not giving a fuck is punk. How original. Sounds like every other white male with unexamined privilege. He can get in line with the manarchists. Punk isn’t for him. And we don’t need people like him to try to define a genre for us. Not giving a fuck about racism or sexism or transphobia or classism is about as fucking normal as you can get.

Capitalism is about what sells. And capitalism is rapidly appropriating aspects of punk that it can turn into consumer products. Those products have never been punk. True punk rebellion includes fighting capitalism, fighting oppression, and promoting a DIY ethic and solidarity and community. Punk isn’t about rebellion for rebellions sake. That’s what capitalists would like for us to think. There are specific values to punk. Punk is queers and people of color and womyn and everyone who refuses to assimilate or perpetuate oppression. Listen to some Crass, Bikini Kill, Dead Kennedys, Bad Brains, etc. Check out Punks Unite Across Turtle Island – www.nativepunxunite.tumblr.com . Check out radical punk zines like Shotgun Seamstress www.shotgunseamstress.wordpress.com .  Punk isn’t dead and shitheads like Dan Ozzi and Miley Cyrus will never kill it. Punk isn’t dead and the capitalists won’t ever be able to market the parts that really matter.

by Comrade Black

Are you in prison, or locked out?

A cage is a cage
Is a cage
Is a cage
Is a cage
Whether barbed wire
Steal bars
Or build of addiction and fear
It’s the same
Freedom knows no boundaries
Walls
 Borders
Or
Shame

A cage is a cage
Is a cage
Is a cage
It’s the same
Human are animals
We all deserve to be free
Not one set of limits for you
And another for me
No prisons, or mink farms
Jails or zoos
No Pet stores
or backyard chicken coops
no psych wards where inmates are held without consent
No ant farms
Or cattle barns
Or pens to breed animals in
Liquor stores or beauty norms
or other forms of boxes to keep people IN.

There is no justification you can give to me that is good enough to continue with this
No matter how many walls, cameras, or cages
We will always resist

Keeping any living being captive without its consent
whether it is to punish them
to eat them
to pet them
or to use their labor or bodies for our needs

A cage is a cage
Is a cage
Is a cage
It’s the same

There’s no walls in a forest, desert, or stream
No bars in the oceans, the sky or in my dreams

0 EXTREME NOISE TERROR TEAR IT DOWN 7″ EP REVIEW

R-4925652-1379614752-2821When I saw this record in the review box from MCR Company, I thought “no way, why would I get a review album from such a well known and respected band like Extreme Noise Terror?”  As I read the letter written by Dean Jones, it dawned on me that this record is actually REALLY different.  What I have here is three songs recorded for the Earslaughter split with CHAOS U.K. in December 1986.  Only one of the songs went onto the split (False Prophet), and the other two songs were never played live or released in any other way.  Basically, no one has heard the songs (Tear it Down, and What a State) since that recording session at the end of 1986!  Unfortunately these songs are so underground that Dean Jones himself couldnt find / remember the lyrics.  This ep is the first ever recording with Mick Harris on the drum kit, all other members are the original lineup.
Three crust as fuck songs in a blistering four minutes, this is mid 80’s English punk at arguably it’s most aggressive era.  The bass is tuned high and is very clear, the guitar also tuned kinda high and becomes a maelstrom of bludgeoning force at top speed.  Classic dual high / low vocals, as always barely intelligible since they sing so damned fast.  What A State is the first recorded time that these guys us the blast beat, and they nail it down perfectly in short brutal bursts of absolute rage.
Cover artconcept by the guy who found the tapes, Dean Jones himself.  Inside is some cool photos of the band during recording, and damn they were young!  Songs were remixed and mastered at Springvale Studios in Ipswish England during June 2013 by Dean Jones and others.  This is a must – have for collectors and serious fans of ENT.  Co-released by MCR Company and Lowlife Records.

1 NERVE DAMAGE / KONFLICTO SPLIT 7″ REVIEW

a3917856476_10 I found this split 7″ one day spent at Profane Existence, and was interested primarily because the art is so cool.  Nerve Damage are from southern Texas (Brownsville I think?) and play thrashy hardcore punk.  Konflicto are from Matamoros, Monterrey Mexico, and play a heavier version of hardcore, with lots of metal influences.  Konflicto has 2 singers, one screechy like the guy from FILTH, and the other one much deeper / crustier.
The art is pretty killer on this one.  On the Nerve Damage side, is a drawing of the angel of death holding onto a baby in one arm (baby is wearing a gasmask), and a stockpile of nukes in the other arm.  The Konflicto side features skulls on a black background, relatively basic, but still cool.
From what I can tell, this record was produced very DIY with small batch, and no record companies.  There really isnt much info for either band, especially Konflicto (there’s nothing, just 3 songs).  Nerve Damage provided band member info, and the lyrics for the 3 songs featured.

0 KRüGER 7″EP REVIEW

VNEJSI.pdf  Prague, Czech Republic, seems to have a really great crust punk scene.  This is the 3rd ep sent to me for review from there this summer, and all of them have been great.  One of those bands, PROPAGANDA (WOLFBRIGADE style), is mentioned in the thanx list within the jacket of this record from KRüGER.  The other band is PRAY FOR DEATH, a band that reminds me of others like HELLSHOCK, KRANG, and to a lesser extent WARCOLLAPSE.  To be honest, I’d like to get more review material from Prague and the surrounding region!
This EP is KRüGER’s 3rd 7″ release, their second by themselves.  After having listened to all they have on bandcamp, I can say that the other records are just as good as the one I have in my hands.  This eight (8) song ep is non-stop intensity with gruff f / m vocals, and the drums keep a charged pace, while still finding space to throw in plenty of drum rolls.  The guitar / bass mixing is pristine, the bass never gets buried, even with all the distortion, and the alternating riffs keep things going strong and interesting.  Side B starts off with Tomorrow’s Hell, which starts on a fast guitar riff, stops for the bass to repeat riff, and then goes straight into the full fledged assault.  I really like the cover song Cash & Greed by BATTLE OF DISARM, very good with perhaps better production than the original!  These 8 songs blast away in 13 minutes, which surprized me cos the ep feels a lot longer, perhaps because of everything thats going on in the songs.  There is no filler on here, all songs are good and I dont have a favoritie.  This ep should be listened to in whole, not just a couple mp3s.
The lyrics for this mini-album (cos thats what it feels like!) were sung in Slovakian, since one of their singers is originally from there.  Luckily for those who cant read many languages beside English, there are translations for every song, found in the foldout record jacket.  Lyrics are written in classic D-Beat style, which is actually Japanese Haiku, But these songs arent really political, but more personal.  The artwork is heavy on the classic bones and war destruction that is seen on many a crust punk record.  Its all crust as fuck (existence), and done with pen / ink.. very nice.
As stated before, this is KRüGER’s 3rd 7″ release, and they also have a totally ripping cover of Pay For… on the TRIBUTE TO DISRUPT 2xlp compilation.  If you haven’t heard of these guys, get online, and check out their bandcamp page.  All songs are offered free, but toss them a couple dollars / euros if you got a credit card (what!? punx with credit cards!?) cos these people work hard to put out the great music that they do.  besides, they had to record it, and it’s worth sacrificing a beer or two!
